Fundraising Information

Thank you everyone for your support of our first

fundraisers of the school year! So far, with the second

hand uniform sale, book sale and Christmas cards,

we've raised £575 towards resources to support our

children at school. This is a great start when we're only

a few weeks into the year. Our goal for this year is

£6,100 which was set at our AGM last month. Here are

a couple of graphics showing our target and

our progress so far. Let's finish the

term on a high with the Winter Fair

and push up the totaliser!

Events with a Rise in Covid-19 Cases

We would like to make all parents and carers aware, that we have just

received guidance from Surrey regarding Christmas events in school. We

currently have no live cases in school and events will go ahead as planned,

with the usual Covid-19 safe arrangements. If cases begin to rise, we will

need to look carefully at Nativity and our other Christmas events and will of

course let everyone know of any changes as soon as we are aware.

Sandfield Cinema Club

The all new Sandfield Cinema Club will be starting on Saturday 11th

December and will run from 1.30 – 4.00pm. The cost will be £5 per week

and you can pre-book with Nick ([email protected]). Please see the flyer

later in the newsletter for further information.

A big thank you to Nick Hutton for organising and running this new club!

CHRISTMAS DECORATION SALE!

Pupils in Year 5 will be selling Christmas decorations in the Playground (or

Learning Lab if wet) on Thursday 2nd December at 3:15pm. Come along

and treat your home!

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

Reception

This week we have been looking at The Gingerbread Man. The children

have enjoyed decorating their own Gingerbread men. They have also

enjoyed looking at how different numbers are made up like 3+1=4.

Nativity is in full swing and the children have been working really hard

learning the songs and remembering all the actions. We have also been

practicing moving and throwing in PE.

Year 1 & Year 2

Year 1 and Year 2 have had another fantastic week. As part of our English

topic about toys, we had a joint computer experience lesson. We learned

how these games developed from the very first ones (Pong) in the 1970s

to today’s very interactive games. Mrs Sherwin was our Grandma Fantastic

who answered questions about her experience of growing up and playing

computer games. We created a word bank of adjectives to describe

different aspects of playing them and then we played a game with our

partner on the iPads. Well done, you have worked so hard in class and with

your Nativity practise, we are very proud of all of you.

Year 3 & Year 4

This week Year 3 and 4 have started to write a sequel to our current book,

‘Wolves in the Walls’ by Neil Gaiman. They have been using a variety of

writing techniques to create tension in their story about another mysterious

animal inside the walls of Lucy’s house. What could it be? In Science, the

children learnt about and replicated the digestion system, using tights to

represent the intestines, orange juice to represent stomach acid and a

plastic bag to represent the stomach. In Maths, Year 3 have been using

counters to make arrays and fact families to support their multiplication

and division. Year 4 have been using their knowledge of conversion to

calculate the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shape.

Year 5 and Year 6

Year 5 and Year 6 have begun writing their biographies of Winston

Churchill. We have focused on his most notable achievements and

WW2. We have also been researching facts on him as part of our

computing and will be creating an iMovie presentation about him. Year 5

have been recapping multiplying by 10, square and cube numbers and

their associated facts. Year 6 have been working out mental arithmetic

fraction work. Science was a practical lesson last week to make electrical

circuits and test the effect of increased voltage!
