The diamond industry had discovered a rare gem in Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta. A dynamic industrialist and an outstanding promoter of the jewelry industry, Mr. Mehta was widely known in the trade as a powerful motivating force. He began his career in 1918 in Burmaand went on to establish one of the most reputed diamond manufacturing and export houses, known as the Gembel Group of Companies, which today has offices across the world.

Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta was also a freedom fighter and a philanthropist whose charities have transformed many lives in India. His latest project, which is nearing completion in Bombay, India, is a charitable hospital for the poor.

During a lifetime of many achievements, Mr. Mehta received a number of awards from across the globe for his outstanding contributions to the trade and economy of the countries where he established his offices. Among them are "The Officer of the Order ofLeopold," the highest civilian award given by the King of Belgium, "An Outstanding Exporter's Award" conferred by the government of Israel, and the title of "Azazur-E-Riazat" bestowed by the Nawab of Palanpur.
