AIIGELTO'IN NEVIS

By Kay Hi ronaka

This past month has not been very eventful except for the arrival of the visiting Japan High School All-Star baseball team ... /hieh walloped the local Southland All stara, 11 to 0 at York Field, in Whittier. As reported by Joe Hironaka, this

team from Japan, especially the pitcher, showed tremendous style and spirit and what made this exhibition ~o impressive was the fact that these boys had been travelling for hours on the jet from Brazil after a \,thirhdnd series of games, landed at the L.A. Airport, were whisked off to Disneyland for an afternoon of fun, grabbed a bite to eat, played the game at 5:00 P.M. and vlere off for Japan later t he same evening. Hmfls that for energy 8.'1d vitality 1 Fu.rtmrmore, none of them seemed to be the \"lorse off for it . Oh, to be young again 1 The 442nd members in charge certainly deserve an a;'lard of some khld for their efforts in playing host to these boys in vie~'1 of t he hass l es incurred due to changes in scheduleE; alld 'Ilhat-nots .

This is a belated thank you to Larry Hironaka of Hilo who presented our chapter ,·,ith a beautiful gavel made of milo which is said to be a very strong and lovely wood. "fe might add that this gave ";,:la hand made by a parolee, (as you probably Imot-l, Larry is a parole (lfficar) and one can see that it is a lovely piece of vrorkmanship. ,Tust thought this bit of infonnation t'lould be of interest.

Your \'l!'iter just r eturned from a week ' s visit to Montery and San Francisco where \ve made like tourists Eieeing t he sights and enjoying t he fresh air and 10"vely ~1eather. Torn and Ruth Kasal. and Ken and Aileen Yoshil'1o and family ~'lere also in the same area recently.

On September 24, the monthly meeting of the Booklet Committee was helet at the 442 Clubhouse. Attending were lOoth members Joe Hironaka, Aki (lirs . Bill) Hiyagi, Buddy Hamiya, Sat Nakamura and Ken Yoshino. The only outsider Nas 1'laUy t!akashima, representing l'Hl1 Company of the 442 . HEADQUARTERS CHAPTER NEIlS

By Tom Nosse

Our official reporter, Ken Otagaki, is unable to keep up with his duty . Someone mentioned at our family night that Otagakis are spending t heir 25th \-/edding anniversary on the East Coast. It is not clear whether the trip wasl on business, pleasu re, or combination. of both.

At any rate J \";hil~ they are busy honeymooning, come one had to carry the ball . The job of reporting the Headquarters Nells v,as unanimously passed on to tlnot too busy!! Tom Nosse . Hope the ctagakis don 't stay on a perpetual honeymoon. Through kindness anj g enerosi ty of Kajika\'Tas, the Septenber r,leeting of Headquarters chapter \'las held at Kaji 1s residence. For most of us it 'lt/a 5n l t easy to find the place. The firenw.n., Harry Yamashita, had t he hardest time . Afte r wondering around f or a ... /hile , Barry finally called from a nearby home to get his direction. (/hen he finally arrived, he claimed Kaji has moved from his original l ocation. Someone said, "~be the mountain has moved but not Kaj i. Thanlc goodness there was no fire." For I.farshall Biga, it \"las ver:r convenient- just over the Nuuanu Pill.... To Shimogaki and the rest of the Aina Haina group needed to travel to the other end of the City , rut \te all enjoyed the hospitality of the Kajika\-las . Wally Teruya, Elmo Okido , and Charles l-fiyashiro were the early ones to leave at 10: 15. But I heard at our f amil y night that they didn 1 t reach home until aft er midnight . Harold Tamashiro and his group had their breakfast on their \-/ay- home . The late arrival at Kajis was Ken Saruwatari, after the boxing around 1l:15. To bad we didn lt have a chance to hear about his recent "honeymoon trip" to Hong Kong. Tpe members of Headquarters Chapter certainly enjoyed the evening . Ruth and Kaji Jrnlst have \·lOrked hard preparing the delicious dishes . Not only working , entertaining , and cleaning- up for us , Ruth & Kaji had t o go to work the next morning . ~'le again say "thank you II to the Kajis .

Ou r f amily night uas he l d on September 21, and Toshio Kunimura was the chaiman . Arthur Tamashiro \-nl S early at the clubhouse chop- i

pine vegetabl es , and even prepared lunch for the cooks. Calvin Shi- !. mogaki was busy setting up the field range and cooting trip e stew. " Someone rernarl{ed that his stevi is getting better each time. We had some problems getting our charcoal stove started buth the chicken got cooked in time . (continued on page 9)
