Current POLICY - EIC (LOCAL)
Grade point average (GPA) shall be calculated for all students using all courses taken that are awarded state credit, using an unweighted 4.0 scale. It shall be possible for a student to have a higher GPA rank than his or her rank in class (RIC). Only the core courses (English, science, mathematics, and social studies) and languages other than English shall count toward RIC. These courses shall be weighted, if classified as honors, including Pre-Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Talented and Gifted.
4
District History of GPA/RIC
● District Committee - 2010 Voted to keep GPA/RIC on the transcript but encouraged the district to revisit in the future.
● New Innovative Courses are being added as options for students to consider. ● Colleges and Universities typically utilize a rubric to holistically review a
transcript and application. RIC is one factor out of several but may vary.● More districts with multiple high schools have either changed their policies or
are in the process of review.
