Message from the General Manager

On behalf of the Resort team, I would like towish all of our members, readers and guestsa very happy New Year and to welcome you toour first edition of Resort Highlights for 2010.I trust that you had an enjoyable and relaxingbreak over the holiday period. So what’s on inthe coming months?

If you are thinking of getting away for a fewextra relaxing nights, now is the perfect timewith some great value accommodationpackages on offer and as we have introducednew bedding, luxurious towelling, linen andlarge LCD televisions to all of the rooms, youwill never wish to leave the Resort.

We have just welcomed our new Head Chef,Helmut Hubele who has many yearsexperience overseeing 5 star kitchens abroadand he is busily creating some wonderfulnew food concepts and activities for yourenjoyment. We will welcome in the ChineseNew Year, the Year of the Tiger, with atraditional lion dance performancethroughout the Resort and restaurants,Trattoria Amici will be serving-up its firstpizzas and the children’s playground will seethe addition of a large inflatable ‘jumpingpillow’ for all the kids’ enjoyment.

The golf course has been fully detailed andprepared for the hosting of the 21st ANZLadies Masters and the exciting news is that6 of the top 10 lady professionals will beplaying in this year’s tournament. Of course,we will be cheering-on the locals and let’shope that defending champion, Queensland’sKatherine Hull, can claim a back to back win.If you have not experienced this internationalevent, I invite you to come along, bring yourfriends or the whole family - as it is not justfor the serious golfer. Not only can you get-

up close with some of the world’s bestgolfers, there will be lots of fun childrenactivities, face painting and golf clinics, a‘swinging high tea’ and fashion parade hostedby TV personalities and ironman champion,Zane Holmes and a healthy range of foodand beverage available over the 4 days.

In early April, our award winning signaturerestaurant, RPR’s, will be temporarilyclosing its doors for a major transformationinto a sleek, contemporary feel restaurantand will reopen in late 2010. In addition tothis, construction of the new Level 21Executive Members Lounge and adjoiningstylish new accommodation suites androoms will commence. In the coming editionsof Resort Highlights, we will give you a sneakpreview of the entire new look!

Chinese New Year

RACV Royal Pines Resort is celebratingChinese New Year with a traditional LionDance on Saturday 13th February 2010.Chinese New Year is the most important ofthe traditional Chinese Holidays and 2010celebrates the year of the Tiger.

The Lion Dance will commence in the hotelreception at 6.45pm and continue throughoutthe resort visiting various restaurants. Comealong to enjoy this great spectacle or make abooking in one of our great restaurants andenjoy the Chinese New Year festivities.

Birdies Day Out Final

The Birdies Day Out ‘Five Star Final’ washeld on Monday 14th December 2009 with 10ladies competing for the overall winner ofDivisions One, Two & Three.

All winners from the quarterly Birdies DayOut events were invited to compete in thefinal which was played on the Resorts GoldCombination Course. The ladies werewelcomed to the final by Senior Manager –Golf, Sport and Leisure, Gavin Kirkman,before setting off to the driving range towarm up for the ‘Five Star Final’.

All winners received a trophy and anAngsana Spa voucher while the runners uptook home a voucher for Kalinda Restaurant.

Movember

In November our Golf Course Maintenance &Landscape teamsteam joined in the fun ofMovember to help raise funds for theProstate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyond Blue.

The boys looked great sporting differentmoustaches and creating their ownindividual look.

In total the Golf Course Maintenance &Landscape teams raised over $500 and theSenior Manager Golf, Sports and Leisure,Gavin Kirkman, was called upon topick a winner with Cameron Smith takinghome the award for best Movembermoustache. The whole team are to becongratulated for their efforts

Royal Pines Resort Challenge Final

The Royal Pines Resort Challenge is aweekly competition every Tuesday and isopen to both male and female golfers with ahandicap. The final was held on Tuesday15th December with 50 players competingacross three divisions.

The final was played under tournamentconditions with the men teeing off from theblue tees and the ladies teeing off from thered tees with all competitors playing theResort’s Gold Combination Course.

All players during 2009 were able to fill outan entry form to win a brand new E-Z-GOGolf Cart valued over $11,000. The luckywinner on the day was Mike Griffin from theColonial Golf Club. The Resort would like tothank Augusta Golf Carts, Coca-Cola /Powerade and Srixon for their support of this event.

Michelle Haynes joined the RACV Royal PinesResort team in March 2008 as KalindaRestaurant Manager bringing with her awealth of experience from 5-star resortsboth nationally and internationally.

Helmut willoversee the Kitchen Teams including theaward winning RPR’s and the new TrattoriaAmici scheduled for opening Feb 2010.Helmut brings many years of experience tothe Resort from his time in the Food andBeverage industry. He has worked in kitchensthroughout 11 countries and has over 28years of experience as an Executive Chef.

Helmut will also focus on innovative menudesign for all outlets with an emphasis onrefreshing flavours utilising quality productsand drawing on his international culinarybackground. Helmut’s operationalmanagement style will result in the publicexperiencing his diverse culinary skills andknowledge first hand with a number of ChefPresentation Dinners.
