We are facing our destiny

has now widely exceeded animal protection by working on better use of resources, an ecological footprint reduc-tion and a general raising of awareness of the urgent need of sustainable development.

Today private companies only represent a very small part of the aid provided to WWF international. However, if we want a real change to start, we need to all work together: governments, industries and consumers. Everybody has a role to play, and play it now.

For all these reasons, the Swiss watchmaking manufactu-rer Quinting chose to join WWF, with the aim of making its humble contribution to the remarkable work of the inter-national non-governmental organization.

For that, we will direct our partnership on key territories, where both WWF and Quinting are already present and where great things have to be done for the conservation of biodiversity, the reduction of the environmental footprint and a better repartition of resources.

Living in harmony with nature first implies living in har-mony with ourselves and protecting a fauna and flora that we all contributed to impact in past decades. There is still time for saving our forests, oceans and glaciers as well as the diversity of living creatures populating them; as long as we start acting immediately. The longer we wait, the more daunting will be the task, making certain past and present actions unrecoverable.

Quinting officially joins WWF international and makes available all its expertise and reputation supporting ani-mal and human welfare. A decision and involvement of the highest importance which are a worthy extension of the fight for peace already started by the Swiss manufac-turer 15 years ago.

With over 50 years of history, the WWF (World Wildlife Fund also known as World Wide Fund for Nature in the 1980’s) was able to impose itself as the biggest Swiss envi-ronmental organization and, even more, one of the major players at global level. The framework of action for WWF

Committing, individually and for the common good, in favour of a healthier planet where every living being can freely flourish.

QuintingQuinting is a Swiss watch manufacturer that over the last 15 years has shown its exclusivity merging advanced engi-neering and the highest Swiss watchmaking traditions.

In 1993, 5 engineers (3 watchmakers, one from the au-tomotive industry and Pascal Berclaz, actual CEO and re-search engineer) have joined to meet every Swiss watch-maker’s challenge, the one of seeing the hands float on the wrist, as if by magic.

7 years of Research and Development as well as 15 million dollars were necessary to launch and patent, in 2000, our first chronograph, the only one in the world completely transparent.

In 2006, Quinting patents its original manufacture Cyclone movement Caliber 38mm. A very specific look of the com-position of synergy effects, making it the perfect contem-porary successor of Louis Breguet’s Tourbillon: adjusted to the wristwatch and absolutely mysterious. This system needed 4 additional years of research and development.

In 2009, Quinting adds another string to its bow by beco-ming a Movement Manufacturer for other international brands. Christian Dior takes the opportunity of the Basel

watch fair to launch two limited editions developed by Quinting, designed by John Galliano: the Christal Mysté-rieuse.

In 2011, the brand successfully launches a new world pre-miere: The Moonlight, the only watch in the world truly showing the Moon phases, a 360 unique pieces limited edition within which the customer can choose the posi-tion of the Earth. This piece carries with it the Art Collec-tion, with decors as various as its designers’ imagination.

In 2013, the manufacturer wagers on a stronger artistic path with its Street Art Collection, perfect blend between Contemporary Art and Fine Watchmaking, where each ti-mekeeper is a unique piece.

In 2015, Quinting grows its international recognition, through the opening of new markets in Latin America and expanding in Asia. Thanks to high quality innovative pro-ducts, Quinting is now present in over 30 countries around the world and the most luxurious jewellers.

Commitments

Since its creation at the turn of the last century, Quinting always committed to causes it finds honourable to help lead the fight for peace and democracy in the world. Through personal conviction from its owners as a first reason, but also through the overall result that a better world is only possible by combining our forces. Each action counts and the Swiss manufacturer had a lifelong attachment to sha-ring its notoriety in favour of just causes.

The ‘‘Dove of Geneva’’, really quickly renamed ‘‘The Watch of Presidents’’ by the international press, is a symbolical time piece featuring two doves, the universal symbol of peace.

The two doves are screen printed on mobile sapphire discs. Thanks to Quinting’s unique movement, made of fixed and mobile transparent sapphire layers, the two birds turn at different speeds (hours and minutes).

They superimpose every hour, for one minute, letting only one sign of peace visible. It reminds the one looking at it

Every raising of consciousness matters, but only the ones acting may one day make things better.

Photo ambassadeursthat it is worth working and fighting for 59 minutes if we gain a minute of peace in exchange. This edition is num-bered to 193 pieces, the number of countries registered to the United Nations.

Lots of Heads of State and Government as well as interna-tional personalities made the choice to support Quinting wearing its emblematic time-keeper. Amongst them are notably Bill Clinton (42nd President of the United States), Kofi Annan (7th General Secretary of the United Nations) and numerous former leaders of the Swiss Confederation (Pascal Couchepin, Samuel Schmid, Moritz Leuenberger or even Joseph Deiss who also used to be the President of the United Nations).

Those prestigious ambassadors are reminded every time they look at their watch that they are not only seeing two doves through the mysterious mechanism but also them-selves, the peace-builders. As a constant reminder that our world’s good health can only be constructed through the human factor.

WWF international

WWF was founded on 29 April 1961. This same year a giant panda named Chi-Chi arrived in the zoo in London. Then named World Wildlife Fund, the organization per-ceives this animal as majestic, loved by all but already in big danger, as the perfect symbol for the cause.

Sir Peter Scott, one of the founders, then draws the first draft of the logo now worldwide recognized as a symbol for WWF and, in a more general way, the international fight for the fauna and flora of our planet.

The 60’s and 70’s mark the early days of the fight. Two de-cades building the foundations for the organization upon the will to alert the public opinion to the importance of conserving endangered species. They succeed in changing a small organization founded by a small group of enthu-siasts into an effective international institution.

It then becomes clear that the next challenge is to add a second guideline to their actions, perfectly complementa-ry. Therefore, the 80’s mark the integration of the concept

WWF is one of the undisputed global leaders regarding the preservation of our planet and its biodiversity.

Page 9: Quinting wwf english

of development in their struggles, besides conservation. Concerned about perpetually questioning themselves re-garding their actions, the WWF teams revise their strategy in the early 1990’s, classifying their work in three different categories even if not mutually exclusive: conservation of the biodiversity, promotion of the concept of equitable use of the resources and reduction of the waste and pollution.

Therefore, the spectrum of action of WWF has conside-rably evolved since its creation in the beginning of the 1960’s, going much further than its red wire, animal pro-tection.

Today, the organization operates for the planet’s wellness in a more general way, merging regional, national and glo-bal perspectives. It notably owes its success to a constant questioning on the best actions to be taken and a particu-lar organization of work, refined over the years.

WWF is a non-governmental organization, ensuring by definition differentiation from political powers. Many

people are engaged in the WWF struggles around the world, either employees or volunteers. A solid structure allowing ultimate efficiency is thus essential for such an organization. For that, WWF thought, developed and refi-ned a totally particular modus operandi especially effec-tive.

Each territory where the WWF is present owns its own local branch, with field officers in direct relation with WWF international while keeping financial and legal inde-pendence.

This modus operandi has the dual benefit of allowing ra-pid and efficient interventions but, especially, possessing a maximum development of expertise about the field and species on which the actions are carried.

This is the illustration of a fact simple although essential for the fights which are theirs: you must be global to be ef-ficient. And that is only possible with a substantive work on a regional scale.

Commitments

The organization currently owns offices in over 80 countries, employs around 6’200 full-time staff-members and receives financial support from more than 5 million donors around the world. Since its creation, the organi-zation invested around 11.5 billion dollars in over 13’000 separate projects and 150 countries.

In the early stages, WWF was essentially focused on the animal protection. Today, aligning with the unprecedented environmental changes the world is facing, the struggle against global warming is also a major battle of the NGO. As a consequence, 6 main research topics are reported: climate change, forest, freshwater, oceans and coasts, spe-cies, toxicity.

All these fights are fully in tune with the specific require-ments of each territory. The campaigns are adapted de-pending on the local endangered species and on the main ecological challenges. The success of the campaigns the-refore comes to the expertise of local and international actors from both public and private sectors.

Present on all fronts, WWF rethinks its commitments for over 50 years.

Why partner with WWF?

vestment. That‘s why the industrial segment and private societies, whatever their motivations, have a vested inte-rest in engaging themselves from now on. For the planet, for all the living species, but also for themselves.

Every support matters and the situation is critical but not irremediable yet. Quinting undertakes, on its scale and from the first days of 2016, to support WWF international in its fight for our environment, especially regarding bio-diversity and species conservation.

The creation of exclusive Quinting watch collections will complete each common campaign. All of them are ultra-limited editions, adapted to the specific territories and represent the main local fights and the species needing protection.

Quinting is committed to the fight for peace and maintai-ning democracies since its creation. Today, living in peace is only possible through the respect of the planet that we live on.

Biodiversity is the key for a proper functioning of nature. Today, most of the members and actors supporting WWF are private individuals. Private companies still represent way too little share of those commitments, although they should feel especially concerned.

Of course, the main reasons for encouraging and suppor-ting WWF are for non-profit proposes, oriented towards nature, our planet and all the species living together on it. However, a lot of companies are blissfully unaware of the fact that, in the long run, such a commitment is also a cost saving process for all of them. Regrettably, it keeps a lot of private structures from supporting nature. Producing industrially the vital services provided for free by nature would imply technical and workforce costs estimated at approximately 60 billion euros a year, only for Europe (fi-gures provided by the World Wide Fund for Nature, report 2014).

Getting involved for nature protection is more than an ethical engagement, it is also a long term economical in-

After 15 years fighting for Peace in the world, Quinting only considers an accomplishment of its battles through a healthier planet Earth, whose biological balance must be maintained.

A partnership built on common values

Technology and demography booms on the rest of the pla-net are inevitable. To make it possible and viable, we have nevertheless to rethink our production modes and living habits, from the ways we travel or move to our eating pat-terns.

Living as well, and even in a better way than today, is cer-tainly possible. For that we just have to change simple things, representing in the end little burden, making this living comfort accessible to all human populations and healthy for our planet.

Quinting and WWF particularly meet around those essen-tial values of social well-being and peace. Those same values needing to be common and accessible to all living beings, through actions as transparent as the time keepers designed by the Swiss manufacturer.

Behind them as well as behind the WWF fights, the human factor is reflected first. The key of a common and sustai-nable success.

Social divide and environmental divide mostly affect the same people. Take action for a healthier environment also means acting on the social spheres and thus, on the most direct way, on Humans.

Historically, Quinting always acted in full transparency -its trademark- for peace and democracy around the world. Purely and simply, democracy is power to the people. To-day, we have to go further than this concept by developing post-modern democracies placing at the centre of their concerns the respect and consideration of the living. We can‘t only consider people anymore but also think about all the species and the fragile balance of our planet.

The last decades have definitely been marked by spectacu-lar and fast progressing advances but also by an unprece-dented mass consumption and the destruction or compro-mise of too many resources and ecosystems. Technological and industrial progresses in developed countries happe-ned at the expense of other species and even other parts of the world.

Union has always been the most powerful weapon and the best way of bringing the most critical fights to an end. By joining forces, NGO and external partners can only improve their results.

Page 16: Quinting wwf english

Territories

For each territory, Quinting will work in collaboration with the local WWF office with the aim of understanding the local situations the best, work on the most endangered species and targeting the people who are the most quali-fied for working for the success of the pending actions.

Each target territory will be accompanied by the creation of appropriate watches staying with the top priority fights for the purpose of giving visibility to the most endange-red species. Events accompanied by press conferences will be locally organised, for an awareness of local issues and an optimal communication regarding the actions to be conducted.

The dozens of WWF offices around the world are divided between the ones able to raise funds and work autono-mously and the ones working under the leadership of one of the independent antennas. All of them can ensure a conservation work including concrete field projects and public awareness campaigns. Quinting will act under their expertise.

Understanding the local context for allowing a general growing awareness.

Species

On each territory the species are selected depending on the urgency of taking actions to save them. WWF identi-fied main criteria used for considering a species as a prio-rity. The species represented on the Quinting collections designed for the WWF campaigns were selected by both sides with the utmost consideration.

The first selection criteria is the importance of the endan-gered species for its ecosystem: role in the food chain, part in the stability or natural regeneration of the habi-tats, capacity to demonstrate larger conservation needs.

The second criteria focuses on the human factor, with a special attention to species important for local communi-ties survival, commercially exploited species (skin, hair, ivory amongst others) and species considered as cultural symbols.

Thanks to these specific criteria, selecting species consi-dered as priority makes it possible to act on all the other endangered species.

As things stand currently, some species cannot self-en-sure their survival. Immediate action is required.
