Questionnaire: I will ask 25 people these following questions and build my magazine around the answers. In order to get a wide amount of answers, I will post the link for my survey on multiple social media platforms e.g. facebook:

Questions: the questions that are multiple choice are indicated.

Age

From this research I found out that the widest amount of people who took this questionnaire is between 14-17. Because of this information I can decipher that this

group of people are the most likely to be on social media, and are interested in music magazines.

This means that I will cater this magazine to this group, as they’re the most likely to read it.

However, that doesn’t mean that this magazine will not cater to other ages, as at least 15 people who took the questionnaire were from other age groups- which is a

large number.

Gender

From this research, more males took this questionnaire than females. Despite these findings, the preferred gender for my magazine will be neutral,

meaning I will not cater to just one gender. In doing this, I will widen my target audience, also, I believe that most rock

magazine’s are catered towards males (classic rock, rock sound), so my magazine will be different from the rest, creating individuality.

From this research I can conclude that students are most likely to be on social media, and, are the most interested in music magazines. With this, I can create a magazine

that is catered towards students, which is a broad spectrum, as age doesn’t determine whether you’re a student or not. This mean’s that my audience will widen,

also, from personal experiences, I can denote that while students are busy with school, when they have free time, they’re likely to spend it online- perhaps reading

about their favourite bands or artists, so this also means that I will have to create an online version of my magazine.

What social media sites do you use?

As a result of this research, I can decipher that what social media site’s people use are not limited to just one. Different social media sites give you different things to do,

for example, snapchat is far more personal and laid back than that of Facebook, because with snapchat you can see what people are doing every hour of the day. With this, I now know to create profiles on all of these sites for my magazine. This

way, I can create a bigger audience and a bigger following, because even know these sites are very popular, some people may not be on all of them, meaning they’d only

get the information from a couple.

How do you pur-chase your music?

From this research I can decipher that most of the people who took the questionnaire purchase their music through online services. This includes spotify, apple music and deezer. This means that the magazine could create music playlists on these services

which would generate popularity for the magazine. Also, bands interviewed can create playlists on the account, which would create a wider audience for the

magazine. This also means that in the interviews, I should speak about their online profile as well as physical copies on their music e.g. ‘listen to (band) on Itunes now!’

What services do you use to lis-ten to music?

Downloading musicStreaming music

This is a further development of the last question. With these answers, I now know that although people stream music, they are more likely to download it also. Perhaps

people don’t want to spend £10 a month on a spotify subscription, when they can legally/illegally download music and have a copy of it on their phones or itunes

account. Fans are likely to download their music illegally, as it’s easier, there are many sites and it’s free. As students are likely to do this (because of their knowledge

of the internet) then I need to generate an aura in my interview where the band understands why fans illegally download their music, as it will deepen the

relationship between them.

Do you prefer live or studio perfor-mances?

As a result of this research, I can decipher that fans prefer live performances of songs to studio performances. Because of this, in my magazine I would add more

advertisements to concerts than to Albums, as people would rather watch the band live. Also, in my double page spread I could highlight this- talking more about

concerts rather than about albums.

Because of this research, I know that most people read Kerrang! Magazine to any other magazine. This could be because Kerrang! Publishes articles on all bands of

the rock spectrum, talking about new and old rock and talking about small, upcoming bands. As a result of this, I now know that fans prefer to read magazine’s that aren’t limited to just one sub- genre of rock, but rather, a wide variety. This also

means that Kerrang! Would be my biggest competition, so I’d have to create a magazine that is better than it- meaning the price could be lower and the content

better.

As a result of this research, I now that the people who took my questionnaire aren’t just interested in one genre of rock, but rather in all of the sub- genre’s also. This now

confirms that I should add lot’s of different sub-genre’s of rock in my magazine, as this would generate the biggest audience.

QUESTION

Do you go to concerts/ music festivals?

Yes, once a year

Yes, Monthly

Yes, as often as I can

Yes, a couple

Yes, a couple (I would like to go to more though)

No, but I would like to

No, and I don’t intend to

As a result of this

research, I know that

most of the people who

took my questionnair

e go to concerts often, or

want to go to concerts.

This confirms the

fact that I should talk

about concerts in my double

page spread. Also, I now know that

most people have extra money in order to

afford to go to concerts, so I could

put the price as a little

higher (but lower than Kerrang!)

In conclusion, I now have a full understanding of what I need to do for my

magazine to be successful.
