    THE INCEPTION

On a day In May 2012, I looked over at my

husband George and said, Hey, Im going toSeattle! I said it with such conviction thatbefore I had my plane ticket, in my mind I wasalready going. It was definite. The next coupleof weeks, I would repeat that phrase and itwould be greeted with a confused look or agiggle.

    George. Im going to Seattle.

    Im going to Seattle.

I HAVE TO GO TO SEATTLE.

Its imperative that I go to Seattle!

I had a budget to adhere to, and had plannedto stay at the city hostel in belltown; however, the Moore hotel had rooms that were within my

budget and not that far from what I was goingto pay for sharing a room with strangers. Ipurchased my ticket and did all of my researchsince I wouldnt have access to a vehicle, I wasgoing to see Seattle the way it is intended foranyone to really see a city, by foot and rail.

I felt confident doing this mini tour, but was abit apprehensive about it since the only contactI had, was a friend whom I met on MySpaceyears prior. This would be the first time meeting

in person. One of two things was going tohappen: 1. I was going to have the time of my lifeand leave the emerald city fulfilled or 2. I wasgoing to die trying. I had to take the chance.

The morning my flight was set to take off, I feltlike shit. You know, Nervous, a mix between

courageous and frightened. Im a night owl sowaking up at 4am to drive an hour to Ontarioand then take a flight at 6am was not thebusiness. To top it all off, my eyes werebloodshot red and just my luck the stupid tsafolks decided they wanted to pick on me and

make me take all of my equipment out of twobags. If looks could kill.

Once on the plane, I realized why I hated flying. Idont like people up in my space. Luckily it wasearly enough where I didnt have to deal withcrying babies and everyone just wanted to be

left alone. Next stop Sacramento.Damn sacto, yall have a nice airport. I satthere for less than 30 minutes, but I made sureto check-in through yelp and text my homie upnorth. Imma coming! Next stop seatown.

    The music

    1. East Bay meets Pacific Northwest (2:06*

Inspired by the flight on my way to Seattle, this

is a Fitting intro to this journey. Getting there ishalf the battle, right?

2.. As I am (3:56)This song was written on the sounder on myway to Everett. I was going to meet up with Fesand I must say it was (still is* one of the most

beautiful train rides I have ever experienced. Theguy in front of me, kept talking to me aboutWashingtons states history. It was lovely, but somewhat distracting. In any case, I wrotethe entire song on the hour train ride. This wasbefore I heard any instrumentals. I felt at peace

during that train ride, and I just let my pen dothe talking.

    3. Flying Steps (3:35)

I wrote the first verse and hook to anotherinstrumental for another producer, but that

asshole took too long to release theinstrumental track. In retrospect, Im glad helagged because then I wouldnt have had thepleasure of getting that sexy saxophone on aFES track. I actually practiced and was writingand editing this in front of FES at his home in

Northern Washington. He smiled, and we knew itwas worth keeping.

    4. Emerald City sorcery (4:29)

Before leaving FESs pad, he gave me a CD full ofinstrumentals that I could choose from. Alreadyforming the EP in my head, I felt this one wasperfect. I also wanted to write a tribute songto FES and not just a oooh dj you so fine, cuz you work the vinyl, blah blah. Iwanted it to be specific to him, so therewould be no confusion that the song wasfor FES. I remember tell ing George and herather gave me this, you haventwritten a song about me look. L ittle didhe know, that FES and I were working ona track called Miraclez, for him.Despite the name of the track, it is aboutFES and how he helped me overcomemusical obstacles; however, I did have togive another shoutout to the city ofSeattle5. Ode to Seatown (3:48)Because having an entire EP dedicated toSeattle wasnt enough, yes, We have aSeattle track. If my memory is correct,FES was trying to fl ip this perry comosong, but kept running into issues withthe rhythm. I never heard it. Then again,

who am I to tell a DJ how to spin, sample, and compose? I knew he had anidea of what he wanted out of it, so Itold him to give me the instrumental oncehe felt satisfied with it. I didnt want totake the track if he felt he didnt put hisbest foot forward. That day I recordeda shitty l ittle demo on my phone anduploaded it to soundcloud so he couldtake a l isten. He gave me the thumbs upand so I kept writing.6. In closing (2:34)This is how you know this entire projectwas meant to be. When FES dropped meoff at the airport, I was teary-eyed. Ididnt want to leave and felt that therewas more to be done. Damn youSouthwest Once I went through therigmarole of TSA, I sat down and startedto write. That night when I got home, FESalready had a beat ready for me. Hesaid, Yo, I composed this after you left. What a way to end this trip
