4 Ash Wednesday Masses - 6th March Lent will be upon us before we know it! Wednesday 6th March is Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting and abstinence. Masses for Ash Wednesday will be at 10.00a.m. in Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn, 12 noon in St. James’, Kinross, and at 7.00p.m. in St. Matthews, Auchtermuchty. That it is a day of fasting and abstinence means that we are obliged to eat less (one meal, plus two small snacks not equivalent to a whole meal when put together) and that we are to abstain completely from all flesh meat (fish and seafood are allowed). All Catholics are required to abstain from meat from the age of 14 years onwards, and Catholics between the ages of 18-59 years inclusive are required to fast. Whilst its not obligatory as such, those who do not fall into these categories are still encouraged to engage in some form of penance, sacrifice, or fasting, health permitting. Fr. Peter Morris C.Ss.R. - Welcome! My sincere thanks to Fr. Peter Morris (Redemptorist) who will be offering Holy Mass this weekend in St. Matthews, St. James’, and at Kilgraston too, while I have a couple of days away. Fr. Peter is a native of Aberdeen, studied at Scotus College Seminary for a short while (my alma mater in Glasgow) before entering the Redemptorist Order. Fr. Peter was ordained on 26th October 2015 at St. Marys Cathedral in Aberdeen. Fr. Peter is currently based at St. Marys Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth. Please afford him your usual warm welcome, and as this is his first time celebrating Holy Mass for us please dont hesitate to show him where things are - it always helps when youre visiting a new parish! My Day By Day - Lent 2019 Copies of the Lenten issue of My Day by Dayare available, free of charge, to every parishioner. Please take this wonderful little booklet home, and use it during Lent to read and pray with the daily readings from Holy Mass. These booklets will be distributed to parishioners this weekend at the end of Holy Mass. Lenten alms boxes for Marys Meals will be available at the back of the church. Please show your usual generosity in supporting our Lenten charitable appeal. Boxes should be returned no later than Holy Thursday. I would like to express my continuing support for and appreciation of the work carried out, in our parish, by the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This group of lay men and women give of their time and energies to support the needy in our locality, putting into practice the corporal works of mercy. Already they have supported many families and individuals in need thanks to your generous weekly contributions. As well as financial support they also need the support of more people who are willing to sacrifice some of their time to assist their fellow men and women who struggle under lifes burdens. If you would like to join them please speak to me, or to Bob Corrieri - the President - or to any one of the members you see holding the collection bucket at the weekend. Im sure theyd be glad to have you on board. God bless you, Fr. A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus 27:4-7

Do not praise a man before he has spoken.

Psalm 91:2-3 .13-16. R/.v.2

Response: It is good to give you thanks, O Lord.

A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 15:54-58

He has given us the victory through Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Open our heart, O Lord,

to accept the words of your Son.

Alleluia!

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 6:39-45

A man’s words flow out from what fills his heart.

This Sunday’s readings from the Sacred Scriptures:

Beginning this week - “Let It Be”

From the same people (CaFE) who brought us “The Gift” and

“The Big Picture” comes the five week course on Our Blessed

Lady entitled “Let It Be”. We will be running this course throughout Lent on Monday evenings when the Prayer Group

would normally have its meetings. Beginning and ending

slightly earlier than their normal meetings, “Let It Be” will run

from 7.30-9.00p.m. on Mondays 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of

March, concluding on Monday 1st April. A donation of £5.00 per

person, to cover the cost of the course book, etc. is suggested,

though this should not be an obstacle to anyone who would like

to attend and for whom this may prove prohibitive. A collection

basket will be left in the hall on the nights of the meetings and

donations can be left in there. Following on from the success of

“The Gift” and “The Big Picture” I would encourage you to come

along for this wonderful look at the importance of Our Blessed

Lady in our Catholic Faith. I will be attending the meetings and

hope to see you there. As with the other courses the atmosphere of the meetings is relaxed, friendly and welcoming. God bless, Fr. Martin

Come and join us for the “Let it Be” Lenten Course on Our Blessed Lady - all

are very welcome!

In thinking of what to do for Lent, how about making a resolution to come to daily Mass or to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, how about starting the practice of regular sacramental Confession (at least once a month), and of daily doing some spiritual reading - perhaps from the Bible or the lives of the Saints. God gives us so many rich opportunities in this holy season to make new beginnings and to enter more fully into His life. A daily structure of prayer, spiritual reading, the Rosary, Holy Mass - these are the things that will bring us closer to Jesus and His saving power!
