What a great &and fashionable etra seating option# I thought.&I don't know how it is at our house# but when we get the whole fam together# it alwas seems like we are running out

of seating. (omeone ine!itabl ends up sitting on the floor# or we end up redecorating b pulling chairs in from e!erroom in the house. )hat's all fine and good# famil get togethers don't happen all that often# but I thought that net goaround I'd make it eas on mself and get some floor poufs. )he are light# eas to mo!e around and *totall in* right

    now.

If mone were no option# I probabl would ha!e +ust bought them directl from West Elm. ,ut# since I do not ha!e thatluur# I had to do the net best thing...knock 'em off.

I don't know if I am +ust pick &or cheap...or both# but I couldn't find an fabric that *spoke* to me. I was hoping toha!e one of those *long lost lo!ers reunited moments*# ou know# where the fabric +ust appears-totall engulfed inangelic light and I'm so o!ercome with emotion that all I can do is crumble to the floor cring. Anwho# it didn't

happen. (o I +ust went home. And that's when I saw these little babies hanging on m banister.

    o angelic light# no o!erflowing of emotion. ,ut he# whate!er.

)he are $3 rugs from IKEA. I had bought three of them not reall knowing what I'd do with them# but after looking atthem# I reali/ed that the would be an inepensi!e and durable option. (o I totall ran with it...and he whadaa

    know. I lo!e 'em...not fall on the floor and cr# lo!e 'em# but almost.

All you need is:mediocre sewing skills &b that I mean# the ablilit to *fudge it* a little and sew in a straight

    line.)hree# $3 IKEA rugs

A Zipper &optional# but with fi!e kids I needed m pouf co!er to be remo!able0washable...this is where m fudgingskills came in...didn't know how to sew in a /ipper til I did it. )he /ipper needs to be as close to the si/e of the

opening as possible...m /ipper was 22 inches.Filler &I found bean bag filler at K-1art for $2.44 a bag. 5ou can use fiber fill# old car parts...whate!er floats our

boat# but I wanted m pouf to maintain its shape and be etra comf for m keister. I ended up using a little o!er one

bag.And mabe some extra sewing needles since I broke three during the course of the pro+ect.

I started b cutting down one rug into two pieces.

ne piece should measure 23in x 23in&or close to that# the widths of the rugs !ar from 20 inches to 3 20inches# and the other piece should measure around !2in x 23in &again# it's super hard to be totall eact# because

each rug is +ust slightl different in si/e.

     6ut down a second rug the eact same wa. 5ou should now ha!e 2" 23in x 23in pieces# and 2" !2in x 23in pieces.

    Finall# cut our third rug down so that ou ha!e an additional  2" !2in x 23in pieces...for a grand total of 2" 23in x23in pieces and #" !2in x 23in pieces.

ow for the fun part...sewing. I'll let the pictures do the talking# sound oka"

    piece 7 is the second# 3in 3in piece

once all si pieces are attached# ou need to sew the corners. )he white arrows indicate where ou should do this.

8ere's what it should look like after the corners are sewed together.

    7/13

ow ou need to attach two sides of the bottom of the pouf. )he picture indicates where to do this.

8ere's what it will look like after the two sides are sewn. 5ou should ha!e onl one side left unstitched now.)hat opening is where our /ipper will go...if ou want one. If ou don't want a /ipper closure# ou would stitch thisopening closed# lea!ing a small area open to allow for adding stuffing0filling. 5ou could then# either hand stitch or

machine sew the opening closed after filling.

    8/13

I reali/ed after I'd made it to this point# that ou want both edges hemmed so the ha!e a nice# clean edge. I luckedout# one of m edges was the sel!age edge of the rug# but the other I had to hem under.

I turned the pouf ride side out# and slid one side of the /ipper under one side of the opening. I pinned it in place andsewed the length of the /ipper.

    9/13

)hen I un/ipped the /ipper so that I could work with the other side. I did the same as before# and slid the other side ofthe /ipper under the other side of the opening# pinned and stitched the length of the /ipper.

At this point# ou could turn our pouf inside out and reinforce the /ipper b stitching +ust abo!e the top of the /ipper#and +ust below the bottom of the /ipper. 1 /ipper was +ust slightl shorter than the opening# so I had a little gap at

one end that I needed to hem shut. If ou run into this same problem# it's no big deal.

8ere's what the final product should look like.

I ended up making two of these bad bos. I spent $29 on 7 rugs# $34 on three bags of filler# and $: on two /ippers...fora grand total of $7 &or +ust o!er $3; for one pouf. )he cheapest pouf I found on West Elm was $24. )hat's a sa!ings

of $24;. ,oo a< 5ou could sa!e a little more mone b using a different filler# but I reall wanted m poufs tomaintain their shape and ha!e a little firmness to them so I splurged and got the good stuff.

I can't wait to test 'em out tonight and catch up on a little ).=.

    Rnd2: 2sc into all 6 loops: 12 sc

rnd 3-10; inc. 6 sc evenly spaced: 60 sc.

rnd 11-12 (or 13, 14 depending on how tall you want the pouf); work even in sc.

rnd 13-22; dec 6 sc evenly spaced; 6 sc.

depending on how much yarn you have or how big you want your pouf, you decide how big

you make the spiral. My biggest pouf, the light-grey one had 60 sc at it's max. The smallest, the dark brown had 48sc at it's max.
