This dramatic retelling of events follows five journalists captured and killed at Balibo in East Timor 40 years ago. Thanks to an initiative by the film’s director, Robert Connelly, we are holding this special memorial screening simultaneously with the Astor in Melbourne and in Hobart, with a share of the box office from the screenings going to East Timorese charity organisations. We present two early masterpieces of German expressionist cinema (rated PG): Nosferatu, based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula; and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari for the price of one (with an intermission). Haunting, chilling and utterly captivating, both films will be accompanied by live original score, composed and performed by local musicians Mats Unden, Podvig’s Levin Diatschenko and Charlee L. Lee.
