PUBLICITY COMMITTEE REPORTS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE

Report of the Committee of Publicity and Public Relations

To the Right Eminent Grand Commander, Grand Officers and Sir Knights of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of New Hampshire:

The Publicity Committee reports that New Hampshire York Rite is progressing well with the Orders of Templary being performed around the State in active fashion.

We are using the Web Site at www.nhyorkrite.com currently posting on it our Publicity Committee Reports, and very recently adding a page for York Rite Bodies’ Trestleboards and even a calendar to keep track of degree work and meetings. We can thank Sir Knight Scott M. Ayen from Sullivan-Hugh de Payens Commandery for developing the calendar for us. We encourage all York rite Bodies to submit their notices to the Grand Recorder’s Office by email so they may be included and their degree dates, etc. added to the calendar.

Our Facebook page is being utilized for communication as well and we encourage those on Facebook to seek us out and interact.

Sir Knight Herbert H. Hutchinson’s daily reports of deceased or ill brethren and sisters of our jurisdiction show tireless dedication to the craft. We all thank him for his efforts on keeping us all up to date on our distressed and worthy Sir Knights.

Right Eminent Grand Commander, it is a pleasure for this Committee to serve the Grand Commandery.

Sincerely yours,

Paul C. Smith

REPORT OF THE FINANC E AND BUDGET COMMITT EE

TO: THE RIGHT EMINENT GRAND COMMANDER, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND

COMMANDERY OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

FROM: BUDGET & FINANCE COMMITTEE

DATE: 04/12/2010

It has been our privilege to serve as your Budget and Finance Committee for the preceding Templar year.

We have reviewed the records of the Grand Treasurer, and taken a look at the condition of our investment

portfolio. We find the Grand Treasurer’s record well-kept and properly cast. We will defer to the Grand

Treasurer for the details thereof.

Needless to say, the investments of the Grand Commandery were not immune to the financial crisis that

devastated the portfolios of many investors. Our portfolio has recovered well. For the future, we believe

that a well-diversified portfolio will continue to serve the long term objectives of this Grand Commandery.

That said, last year’s budget called for transfers of funds from both the Triennial and Conclave reserves in

order to balance the budget. We are happy to report that due to the care taken by the Grand Officers in

controlling expenses, and the outstanding work of the York Rite Council in bringing the Annual Conclave

in under budget, the budget deficit was funded in its entirety by a surplus from the preceding year. The

funds that were to have been transferred were able to remain invested, which resulted in additional gains.

Attached are the Budgeted Income and Expenses compared to the actual expenses to date for the current

year along with a proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2011. Based on the frugal management of our Conclave

expenses, and the size of our Conclave Reserves, we recommend a reduction in the Grand Commandery

Assessment, to $2.00 per capita for the Conclave from the current $3.00 per capita

Respectfully submitted, R. Bradley Alderfer, KCT, and Chairman Harold M. Chase, Jr.

NH YORK RITE LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOUNDATION 2012

The annual meeting of the NH York Rite Life Membership Foundation was held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 7:30 P.M. The following members were present: Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. President, Robert G. Hatfield, Vice President, Rodney A. Robinson, Treasurer, Gerald F. Buehrer, Secretary, Robert M. Argel.

Ronald E. Metcalf, Richard A. Gilbert, Sr., Robert Porter and H. Stephen Wood were absent.

The meeting was opened at 7:30 P.M. and a prayer was given by Comp. Robert M. Argel. The minutes of the March 29, 2011 meeting were read and approved.

Old Business:

With the resignation of Comp. Walter P. Sword, Comp. Robert Porter was elected for three years at the annual Council business meeting on April 16, 2011. H. Stephen Wood and Ronald E. Metcalf were also re-elected for three more years at the 2011 annual meetings of the Grand Chapter and Commandery.

All Secretaries and Recorders are supposed to send a list of all of their life members (living and deceased) to the Treasurer or Secretary of the Life Membership Foundation not later than Feb. 28 of each year. This is so the Treasurer can compare his list with all of the York Rite bodies and make sure we are not missing any members and that body gets short changed. This year, not a single body sent in their report. It was moved that the President send an e-mail to the Grand Recorder and ask him to e-mail all Secretaries/Recorders of this requirement. Perhaps he could send this reminder each year. Or, if the Grand Sec/Rec would send me a list of all of the Sec. Rec. with their e-mail addresses, I would be glad to do it.

New Business:

It was decided that only members of Chapters, Councils and Commanderies can become life members of this foundation. Appendant bodies are not eligible for membership.

Due to the low return on our investments, we are forced to raise the rates for membership. As of March 1, 2014, the rates will increase approximately 5%. If you are thinking of becoming a life member, take advantage of the old rates prior to Feb. 28, 2013.

The Treasurer read his report. We did a little better in 2011 than 2010. We had an income of $2,323.68 which was 3.86401% profit on our investments, We had an increase of 5 members in 2011, which brings us to 284. The York Rite bodies will receive the income as follows:

Chapters: $830.76

Councils: $668.23

18

Commanderies: $824.69

$2,323.68

In the future, no Chapter, Council or Commandery will receive their check unless a list of their life members is received.

It was voted to forego the 25 cent per member charge this year. It was voted to accept the Treasurer’s report.

Election of Officers:

At the election of officers, it was moved that the same officers remain in office for another year.

It was seconded and accepted.

The Secretary announced that the following members would be going off of the committee unless re-elected:

Rodney A. Robinson Chapter

Gerald F. Buehrer Council

Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. Commandery

The meeting for next year will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 7:30 P.M. at the same location. With a closing prayer by Comp. Argel, the meeting was closed at 8:20 P.M.

True and attest;

Gerald F. Buehrer, Secretary

20

To the RE Grand Commander and the Sir Knights of the State of New Hampshire:

Report of the Grand Recorder

The Proceedings for 2012 are completed and have been placed on the web site. I have provided our sister Jurisdictions with copies of the same, as well as the Grand Encampment Office.

Bills for the Proceedings including materials, duplication and postage, as well as copying and postage for Annual Conclave notices, have been submitted to the Grand Treasurer and have also been paid in full.

We are going to continue ask all Grand Officers to sign for materials supplied to them from the Grand Commandery. There are missing items that we have not been able to locate. In trying to replace a missing Grand Officer Jewel, I was quoted $150 for a replacement cost because of the “star” that goes around the Jewels.

Other jurisdictions have actually had their Grand Officers take out Insurance Policies on their equipment because of the valuable cost of replacement.

On another note, most Commanderies are integrated into the YRIS system except for one Commandery. I ask that the situation be corrected. I could still bring our other Grand Bodies into that same system and make the work for all an easier chore. I think a Seminar for all Recorders is a good idea and hope to have that arranged sometime soon.

Thank you, RE Sir, for allowing me to serve you and your Grand Commandery.

Sincerely yours,

Dennis A. Sheridan, R.E. Grand Recorder

22

To the Right Eminent Grand Commander, Officers and Sir Knights of the Grand Commandery, Knights Templar, State of New Hampshire

Your Committee will meet with Robert L. Sutherland Jr. Sect/Tres REPGC, to discuss the Educational Scholarship Program.

The following committee members: William F. Curtis, REPGC Chairman (2011), Robert D. Steel (2012), Mark H. Kilmister (2013) Glen R. Gordon (2014) Harold M. Chase VEDGC (2010) will meet and discuss the business of the Committee. It should be noted that the term of Sir Knight Chase (2010) expired on December 31st 2010 and that a new trustee (pro tem) was selected by the Committee to serve until an election may be held at the Annual Business Conclave, he being RE Sir Knight Ronald E. Metcalf and his term would expire 2015.

The Education Recorder worked with the Grand Encampment to get all the past paper work from 2005 to 2010 budget filed. Due to a miss statement of an employee of the Grand Encampment finical statements for the years of 2005, 2006, and 2007 were not filled. Also budgets for years 2006, 2007 and 2008 were not filed. After this was cleared up all the finical statements were completed and filed and the budget for 2008 completed and filed within eight days. Budgets for 2009 to 2011 were filled and all other paper work is now current with the Grand Encampment. The Grand Encampment has approved the budget for 2011-12 signed it and returned it. The Grand Encampment has developed a new reporting system that makes the filing of all of our annual federal reports and Grand Encampment reports very easy, they are now PDF fill in reports and simple to save and send.

Last year we received a very large donation from a SK via Trinity Commandery in the sum of some $30,000.00. This increases the value of our base holding to over 100,000 dollars, and increasing the income of our account.

This past year we had a lower request in the number of scholarship and we with the dips and dives of the market we will able to make three $1000.00 this year. We had four outstanding students apply this past

All applicants must have a Masonic affiliation to be eligible. All application forms must be completed and returned to the Education Recorder no later than April 30th, 2011.

23

Due to the fact that Trustee terms expire on December 31st we recommend the election of RESK Ronald E. Metcalf for the balance of his appointed term till 2015 and that RESK Curtis be reelected for an other term of five year to expire in 2016. We move the election of the Sect/Tres of the Education foundation for a term of five year expiring 2016 RESK Robert L. Sutherland Jr.

We wish to thank you and this Grand Commandery for the privilege of serving on this Committee.

The scholarships offer this year will be voted on the 30th of April, at this time we have 4 applications and they all should receive scholarships in the amount of $1000.00. However till the 30th of the month we cannot release the names or how many scholarships will be issued.

REPORT OF THE MEMBER SHIP COMMITTEE

TO: THE RIGHT EMINENT GRAND COMMANDER, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND

COMMANDERY OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

FROM: MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

DATE: 2/3/2012

It has been our privilege to serve as your Membership Committee for the preceding Templar year.

This year, again, no festival was planned in Manchester, and, as in prior years, we are pleased to note that

interest in the Rite continues to spread throughout the State. There has been a great deal of activity

throughout the state, particularly in Portsmouth, Manchester, Claremont and Lancaster. There have been

candidates in every Commandery within the state.

We have begun to spread the word by making available the informative booklet, “The York Rite of

Freemasonry” at no cost to interested Master Masons at the Grand Lodge Semi-Annual Communication in

November. Our thanks to the Grand Lodge Education Committee and Sir Knight Malcolm Wooff for

assisting in this effort

In speaking throughout the State, we continue to use the tag line: Every Christian Mason wants to be a

Knight Templar, they just don’t know it, yet… More generally: Everyone wants to be a York Rite Mason,

they just don’t know it, yet….

For the first time this year, the membership function of the York Rite Bodies has become a unified effort,

by virtue of a common Committee Chair. We still need to get the word out, by letting the brethren know

where they can find information about the Rite.

We have seen the beginnings of a coordinated effort aimed at informing all York Rite Bodies within the

State exactly when and where the several York Rite Degrees and Orders are being exemplified and we

thank the Grand Recorder and the Publicity Committee for their assistance in placing this information on

the website.

Our Brethren in the Scottish Rite continue a well-financed and well-coordinated effort to recruit new

members. The Supreme Council, NMJ is currently involved in a campaign surround its 200th Anniversary.

This effort is, in the opinion of the Chair, aimed at numbers, and is not something I believe we should

emulate. We should seek those who are genuinely interested, and may become active. New Master Masons

are still interested in history and tradition, and we can offer both. To some degree, we have built it, and

given sufficient information, we believe they will come.

We should continue our efforts to identify a single member in as many Lodges as we can who will be

visible, so that the brethren will have a “go to” person for information about the York Rite.

25

We should continue to make available The York Rite of Freemasonry to as many interested masons as we

can reach. As a part of this effort, we recommend that this Grand Commandery assist in manning the

information table made available by our Grand Master at the Grand Lodge Annual Session in May. We

suggest that said table be manned by knowledgeable brethren from different parts of the state, armed with

an adequate supply of The York Rite of Freemasonry, along with other information on the Rite, such as the

membership trifold, which has been rewritten for New Hampshire, information on the local organizations,

include location and meeting times, and of course, petitions.

Our current Grand Master is more supportive of the York Rite than anyone who has served in that office

for many years. We should take advantage of that, and strive to support him in all his fraternal efforts.

The Committee should also determine how visible our Grand Master will allow us to be. For example, is it

appropriate to appear in Lodge in the regalia of the York Rite bodies as visitors? Can we craft

correspondence for each constituent Lodge to get the word out?

Finally, each of us should contribute to the membership effort by being visible in the Blue Lodges around

the State, seeking opportunities to dispense information regarding the Order and membership therein.

Respectfully Submitted,

R. Bradley Alderfer, KCT, Chairman

Robert M. Porter David S. Collins

NH MASONIC HEALTH AND WELFARE COMMITTEE REPORT

To the Right Eminent Commander Dwight V. Meader of the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire:

It is with great pleasure that I submit to you a report of the activities of the NH Masonic Health and Welfare Committee.

As you can see, by the number of e-mails you have received, there are more obituaries being published (instead of 2 pages there are now 5 pages to be scanned every day, on average) and your committee has been very active reporting the passing of Sir Knights, Masonic Brothers, Order of the Eastern Star Sisters, Rainbow and Demolay members.

Fortunately, we have been hearing from Brothers and Sisters more when the identification of the Masonic affiliation is not listed in the obituary - for that I am very grateful. Also, occasionally, I have been notified of the passing of one of our members that doesn't appear in one of the newspapers that I scan. Hopefully, in the future, more Brothers and Sisters families will know to mention the Masonic affiliation of their family members so that I can spread the word of their passing and honor their service.

I have occasionally been using the mailing list to update Masonic members of the illness of Brothers and Sisters.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES

To: Harold M. Chase, Jr., Right Eminent Grand Commander, Officers, and Sir Knights of the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire

Date: April 5, 2012

During the last Templar year, no items or requests were referred to this Committee, so no action was taken.

The Committee recognizes the difficulties every Commandery faces in attaining an adequate compliment of Sir Knights to participate in a Memorial Day or Independence Day parade. We encourage Commanderies to investigate the possibility of coordinating with one or more other Commanderies, joining together to march in a display of patriotism by our Sir Knights.

Additionally, we offer the suggestion that Commanderies recognize members of the community who have demonstrated the virtues of patriotism, by holding a ceremony where they are presented a plaque or certificate, and a flag flown over the White House. Flags may be ordered through the offices of Senators Ayotte and Shaheen, and Representatives Bass and Guinta, and the costs currently start at under $20.00, including shipping.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert M. Porter, Acting Chairman

GRAND COMMANDER’S REPORT

To the Sir Knights of New Hampshire: Distinguished Guests and Grand Commandery Officers of New Hampshire.

This being our 166th Annual Grand Conclave, I wish to extend my heartfelt welcome and greetings to all our Distinguished Guests- visiting Red Cords, leaders of the York Rite and Affiliated Bodies, of the Scottish Rite, the Rev and S.K. William D. Hartman, R.E. Grand Prelate of the Grand Encampment and the Representative of M.E. Grand Master, William H. Koon ii, S.K. Vincent A, Cowie, the R.E. North East Department Commander. HIS Last visit as such), and, lastly, and most importantly, our own S.K. and Brother Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire, F. and A.M. Paul M. Leary. Thank you for taking the time to attend our session.

I would like to thank the Sir Knights for electing me to the position, and particularly, R.E. Sir knight Herbert Hutchinson for first appointing me in the Grand Line, and secondly, to R.E. Sir Knight Thomas Tsirimokos, for re-appointing back into the Line. I have tried to fulfill my duties through the Line, in spite of Illnesses and resulting surgeries.

After a fairly healthy summer and fall, I think I fulfilled my travel duties satisfactorily. The week following installation, I attended and represented the Grand Commandery at Grand Lodge. June began with the Claremont Alumni Parade with 3 other Grand Officers plus my own Commandery and others participating walking and riding in the rain. Then off to Vermont, for their Grand Session and the following weekend at Rindge for St John’ Day Celebration. Attended the Order of the Temple in Manchester, July was to the Rainbow Grand Session. August, we had the Shrine Parade in Windsor, VT and then I represented Grand Commandery at the Eastern Star Grand Chapter Session. September brought the N.E. Department Conference in Connecticut followed by Grand Commandery Conclave in New York, the following weekend. October had the Massachusetts Grand York Rite Conference, followed by a Commandery Inspection in Springfield, VT. November was fairly quiet with Grand Lodge being the only event scheduled for that month. However, I was asked and did give permission for a Templar escort at the funeral of Sir Knight Theodore Rohr, which I also attended. December my local Commandery had a Christmas Observance which I attended.

36

January saw shoulder surgery, which incapacitated me, regarding travel until I made the Commandery business meeting in April, the Grand Commandery in Connecticut and the Commandery Inspection in Lancaster and represented Grand Commandery at the Spring Reunion of Scottish Rite in Nashua.

I attended various other Lodge, York Rite and Affiliated Bodies, Scottish Rite, OES and Rainbow functions.

There were no By-Laws changes presented.

Dispensation for the release of Jurisdiction to Massachusetts and Rhode Island was approved, as well as, the preceding mentioned dispensation for a Templar funeral escort.

In addition, I would like to thank the Inspector General for his work in organizing the Inspections and for organizing the full Tactics and Reception, which have not been done for some time. The session was well done and showed what could be done with organized practice. Also, I would like to commend the younger troops, especially during the last inspection for their outstanding work. The Inspector General remarked how well the newer members performed, and hopefully that enthusiasm will continue with our newer Sir Knights that they can thusly take over the reins. If we can inspire our newer Sir Knights enough, maybe New Hampshire Commandery can put together a plausible Drill Team- that could be a resurgence of our Commanderies past glory. Again, thanks to all who participated in the Inspections and Tactics.

Again, I thank the Sir Knights for electing me to this Office. I will now turn this over to the R.E. Grand Secretary and the E Grand Prelate for the Necrology report and commemoration.

Respectfully submitted

Harold M. Chase, Jr.

RULES FOR MASONIC DATES IN 2004

ANCIENT CRAFT MASONRY

Commence their era with the creation of the world, calling it ANNOS LUCIUS (A.L.), “In the year of Light”. Add 4000 years to the common era. Thus 2004 plus 4000 would be 6004 A.L.

ROYAL ARCH MASONS Dates from the year the construction of the Second Temple was commenced by Zerubbabel, ANNO INVENTIONIS (A.I.), “In the year of the Discovery”. Add 530 years to the common era. Thus 2004 plus 530 would be 2543 A.I.

ROYAL AND SELECT MASTERS Dates from the year in which the Temple of Solomon was completed, ANNO DEPOSITIONIS (A. DEP.), “In the year of Deposit”. Add 1000 years to the common era. Thus 2004 plus 1000 would be 3004 A.Dep.

ORDER OF HIGH PREISTHOOD Dates from the year of the blessing of Abraham by the High Priest Melchisedek, ANNO BENEFACTO (A.B.), and “The year of the Blessing.” Add 1913 years to the common era. Thus 2004 plus 1913 would be 3917 A.B.

KNIGHTS TEMPLAR Commence their era with the organization of the Order, ANNOS ORDINIS, (A.O.), “In the year of the Order.” Subtract 1118 from the common era. Thus 2004 minus 1118 would be 886 A.O.
