Yesterday evening about 50 of us visited the new school, and while a few of us have been in there quite regularly, for many it was the first visit for many months. It was great for people to see the progress and how close it is to being finished now, and to see how excited people were to see through it. It is a wonderful building and great for WHS. Re this we are in the process of working out when we will have ‘Open Days’ next year for parents to be able to come and have a look around our new school. Do have a look at the photos on our Facebook page. Last week I noted the Queenstown Marathon and I just want to acknowledge ex-parent and BoT member, Wayne Foley who ran the full marathon and raised $26,484 for the WHS Foundation! Amazing effort on the full marathon and even more amazing on the funds raised - thanks Wayne! Moving Garage Sale - the big Moving Auction has now closed but on Saturday 2 December we have a big Moving Garage Sale! There are still heaps of items, see poster below for more. Branches Camp - is now only five days away. Given that we’re doing weekly updates for Year 10 I won’t write too much, but today was Pre-Branches Tramps, including the gear check and the naming of the Groups - which all seems to have gone well. This weekend is final preparations and packing before it gets underway next week :) 2018 Buses - as I’m sure you are all well aware by now, next year sees the introduction of the ‘mixed model’ of school transport. Those living in areas that will have to use the new public transport system should be getting their heads around the new bus timetables. For those who will be travelling on school buses we are still waiting for the MoE to finalise routes and will publish these when they are confirmed. WHS Foundation Golf Day - coming up on Thursday 14 December is the annual WHSF Millbrook Golf Day. This is a great day supporting the WHS Foundation - get a team together and support this great cause. Please see the flyer below for more details. With me being in Branches and the smaller content at this time of year there won’t be a newsletter next week. This incredible spell of weather just keeps on keeping on for the weekend - although a little more cloud around than the hottest days this week, enjoy :) Steve Hall Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

This is an open letter to everyone who supported my run and the cause of fundraising for the Awhi Fund, part of the Foundation’s strategic annual support of the high school community. I approached the whole idea of running a marathon as a far-fetched idea that if I told enough people it would force me to do it. Given I could hardly run one kilometre around January this year it was going to take a lifestyle change plus some to get there. I managed to combine the training in with a busy year for Trinity and both have gone well. Having committed to that I then decided I needed a cause to support backing the idea that Trinity’s networks would hopefully come on board. For me supporting our only high school and its Foundation was an easy choice. Some of you will know that I have had a lot to do with the high school over a number of years. The school is our communities most valuable asset by far and its wellbeing affects not only the families who have teenagers attending but also our wider environment attracting and holding quality employees, property values and a safe and happy community for all of us. What you have collectively done is allow the school, through the Foundation, to continue to strategically support many families who are in real need by ensuring that their children attending the school get every opportunity to participate as part of the school community, dress like everyone else, attend all exams and school activities. To provide every opportunity for these young people to succeed. There’s nothing I can really add other than my sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported this cause. Thank you! Wayne Foley 3

Dear Wayne and Supporters, We are humbled and grateful for all Wayne has done and especially appreciative of all of those who support the school and the Foundation. We see first-hand the impact that the Foundation provides to the High School students and please know that you are truly making a huge difference in many lives. "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela. This quote applies as much in our community as any other. Wayne's goal was $20,000 and he greatly surpassed it, raising a whopping $26,484! This investment in the school means direct support for students and families suffering hardship for whatever reason to be able to have the same opportunities as every other child at school and provides support for the many other programmes the Foundation provides at the school for both staff and students. Wayne and I and others, were founding Trustees of the Foundation and both he and Julia are examples to us all of how to live and support our community. We are overwhelmed by their generosity and spirit. Mark Taylor Chairman Wakatipu High School Foundation

St John and Homecare Medical are pleased to advise that the 111 Clinical Hub will be implemented in the South Canterbury, Canterbury, West Coast and Southern DHB areas during December, as part of a New Zealand-wide rollout during 2017. We have prepared the below one page overview. If you require any further information about this initiative, please visit the St John website or contact us, as per the details below. We’re making improvements to the 111 service in the Southern, South Canterbury, West Coast and Canterbury DHB areas If you need an ambulance urgently, we’ll get one to you as soon as possible. If you don’t need an ambulance, we’ll find the best treatment for you. We’ll do that by having an experienced St John nurse or paramedic call you back and perform a detailed telephone assessment. We call this the 111 Clinical Hub. Will I get an ambulance if we call for an incident involving a student or staff member? If the incident is urgent or potentially life-threatening, the closest ambulance will be sent as soon as possible. Only in non-urgent situations will we assess whether there may be a better care option, in which case a St John nurse or paramedic will call you back to provide expert advice and recommend a plan. The 111 Clinical Hub launched in Auckland over three years ago and now operates throughout most of New Zealand. For a video on what happens when you call 111 and frequently asked questions involving the 111 Clinical Hub please click HERE. When does the 111 Clinical Hub launch in the Southern, South Canterbury, West Coast and Canterbury DHB areas? The 111 Clinical Hub launches in the following new areas during December: Canterbury DHB area covering the area Kaikoura in the north to Ashburton in the south. Southern DHB area covering the area from the Waitaki River down to Stewart Island. South Canterbury DHB area covering the area including Timaru, Temuka, Fairlie, Geraldine and Mount Cook. West Coast DHB area covering the area of Karamea in the north down to Haast in the south. Why are we implementing the 111 Clinical Hub? The Clinical Hub enables St John to provide the right care at the right time to 111 callers who may not require an ambulance, through a professional clinical telephone assessment. This helps reduce the volume of non-urgent presentations at emergency departments where safe and appropriate, while also freeing up ambulances to respond to those patients who do require a time-critical response. If you have any questions that can’t be answered by visiting the St John website above, please contact St John National Patient Pathways Manager, Kris Gagliardi by emailing [email protected]. Remember to always call 111 in an emergency. Yours sincerely Kris Gagliardi National Patient Pathways Manager St John
