President’s MessageBy Daniel Llaguno, Nutec Bickley

uring October, I had the honor of representing IHEA at the CECOF annual meeting in beautiful Krakow, Poland. I had the opportunity to interact with our European colleagues, and hear very interesting

presentations on what´s going on over there. On behalf of IHEA, I would like to thank Timo Würz and René Branders, for their personal attention to my wife Katia and I, and to Anne and Andy Goyer. This confirms the great and close relationship between IHEA and CECOF.

No doubt it has been a busy couple of months for most of us, filled with industry events. We had our Fall Seminars and Business Meeting in Cincinnati, a place which exceeded my expectations, and surprised me with its brewing legacy! We had an atypical year due to external factors, and attendance was lower than usual (as with many industry events this year), but the high quality of the seminars, table top exhibit, and attendees, made up for that. Thanks to speakers, attendees, sponsors, and IHEA staff for the time and effort to make this happen.

We also attended Furnaces North America in Nashville, where IHEA had a booth, and we had the opportunity to meet many of our members. Attendees expressed good interest in what IHEA is doing and its vision, which will most likely result in additional members in our association. From my recent travels, and interactions with our industry, my feeling is exactly as expressed by Chris Kuehl (IHEA´s economist) in his last economic report: “the mood in our industry is delay – a wait and see approach that delays many decisions until after the US elections”. IHEA FALL EVENTS RECAP

IHEA Fall Seminars RecapIHEA continues to provide critical training and education to the thermal heat processing industry. In September, we held the 47th Combustion Seminar and the Safety Standards and Codes Seminar at the Marriott RiverCenter in Covington, KY. The speakers and the programs received excellent ratings on the evaluations and attendees raved about the networking opportunities during the Tabletop Exhibition. IHEA is proud to have such qualified professionals teaching these imperative courses.

IHEA fall seminar attendees enjoyed visiting all the tabletops and learning more about the applications presented in the classroom.

Mark your calendar for 2017… IHEA’s Fall Seminars will be held Sept. 19 & 20 in Greenville, SC. Complete details and registration information will be available on the IHEA website (www.ihea.org) in the spring.

IHEA FALL EVENT RECAP

IHEA Fall Business ConferenceFollowing the successful ITPS Americas in August, IHEA held an abbreviated Fall Business Conference to focus on committee business and develop action items moving forward into 2017. As tradition goes, IHEA members gathered for a social event on Tuesday evening. They enjoyed a tour of recently discovered tunnels that were vital to Cincinnati’s brewing heritage, which is rated one of the Top Five Underground Tours by National Geographic. The tour ended with a German-themed dinner and beer tastings at the Christian Morelein bottling plant and tap room in historic Over-the-Rhine, before the final stop at Rhinegeist Brewery with dessert and a rooftop view. Wednesday morning committee work commenced and each committee chairperson delivered a report to the members before the conclusion of the meeting.

IHEA members got a taste of Cincinnati … this year’s social activity exposed IHEA members to underground brewery tunnels, German fare and craft brews.

IHEA NEWSIHEA at FNA 2016 Furnaces North America 2016 was a terrific success for IHEA. The show floor was busy for two days and it was nice to see so many IHEA members exhibiting. According to show management, there were over 1,600 attendees from 17 countries, representing just about every major industry, including automotive, aerospace, military, medical, heavy equipment, tooling and agriculture.

This year’s show began with a high-energy reception with more than 800 guests. It was an exciting event, as opening-night sponsor AFC-Holcroft celebrated its 100th anniversary. IHEA members were able to visit with each other and enjoyed the first night’s festivities.

The IHEA booth promoted the Online Distance Learning Course and received several registrations for the training class that began in October. The booth saw a lot of traffic which resulted in substantial leads, book sales and a few potential new members.

IHEA NEWSCECOF Annual General AssemblyIHEA President Daniel Llaguno & his wife, Katia, along with IHEA Executive Vice President Anne Goyer & CFO/COO Andy Goyer journeyed to Krakow, Poland in October to attend CECOF’s Annual General Assembly. Market reports from 12 European countries as well as a North American market report were presented along with an interesting presentation on the economic conditions in the Middle East. In addition to the excellent presentations throughout the meeting, CECOF had several networking events that allowed for great interaction and discussion. As always, CECOF served as a gracious and welcoming host to IHEA.

IHEA NEWSAnnouncing the INTERNATIONAL THERMPROCESS SUMMIT 2017 June 27-28, 2017 Düsseldorf, Germany

Three years ago the ITPS Conference and its accompanying exhibition were successfully launched as a joint venture by Messe Düsseldorf, the Foundry Machines Association within VDMA (the German Engineering Federation), the European Committee of the Industrial Furnace and Heating Equipment Association (CECOF) in Frankfurt and the German trade magazine heat processing (Vulkan Publishers in Essen). In 2013, the event was attended by delegates from 16 countries. “The most important features were the combinations of theory and practice and of scientific and business topics. The upcoming ITPS will pick up precisely these assets and address the issues that are facing us in the future. At the same time the Summit is an ideal opportunity for international networking,” said Friedrich Georg Kehrer, Global Portfolio Director of Metals and Flow Technologies at Messe Düsseldorf. “I am pleased that we have such strong national and international partners working with us and that we have created this Thermprocess Summit together with our ten-member advisory board.”

ITPS 2017 will connect industry, research and government, bringing all the relevant players together. The program will include topics such as energy and resource efficiency, new business models created with the advance of digital networks in production processes, innovative solutions and best cases in the key engineering sectors of automotive, electrical, aviation and mechanical engineering. “It is important to us to highlight not only scientific and practical aspects, but also the global, economic and industrial policy frameworks,” stated Dr. Timo Würz, CEO of the Foundry Machines Association and member of the program advisory board. “This is why we will start ITPS with this overarching thematic complex and why day one will put the focus entirely on this goal.” The Thermprocess Summit will be complemented by an exhibition in the foyer of the InterContinental Hotel. Companies can book 20 or 39 square feet of booth space in the foyer as well as sponsorship packages.

For further information about visiting or exhibiting at ITPS 2017, contact Messe Düsseldorf North America, 150 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2920, Chicago, IL 60601. Telephone: (312) 781-5180; Fax: (312) 781-5188; Visit www.mdna.com ; E-mail: [email protected].

Induction Division Update

The IHEA Induction Division is developing new resource pages on the IHEA website. As part of IHEA’s commitment to educate the thermal heat processing industry, induction heating is now included as a focus for IHEA training. This means more information is available through our new induction member companies and we have access to additional training resources, videos and materials. The Induction Division is also involved with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), to produce an induction webinar for electrical utilities and their industrial customers. It is designed to explain the basic theory of induction technology and review several case studies, industrial applications and success stories. This will allow IHEA further reach within the induction market, assist with the development of the induction division, and increase potential member prospects.

The preliminary webinar with EPRI is scheduled for Dec. 2016, with plans to add dates and expand the audience through 2017.
