•  International network of more than 20 organizations in as many countries focused on developing programs that bring sustainable behavior change.

•  We have programs aimed at schools, workplaces and households.

Why do we do what we do?

•  We believe in people's ability and willingness to do the "right” thing. But to do right, we need to know why, how and what we should do. Our programs aim to raise these questions. GAP Sweden's slogan is “for change”.

•  The GAP network's overall vision is to empower millions of people all over the world to live increasingly sustainably.

How do we do it?

•  Scientific basis - We develop programs based on the science of behavior change

•  Proven experience - We constantly evaluate our projects to learn from our own experiences. We have also developed our own method for this, called Learning4Change.

•  Empowerment - We believe that people's self-motivation is the biggest success factor for behavior change therefore we are developing programs designed to empower people and help them to find their own inner drive.

What are we doing?

•  What we do in Sweden to motivate and inspire people to live more sustainably include: TEDxHornstull - A recurring conferences on various themes of change that the GAP has been involved in. In the past, it has been “Sustainable Change”, "Learning for Change" and “Change through Cooperation”.

•  Project Green, a film competition where participants produce films with sustainable practices on a theme of sustainability.

From EcoTeams to GoEco •  Previous activities in Sweden have also

included EcoTeam, a study circle that aimed to engage the participants in a household to go from words to action when it came to live environmentally friendly.

•  This was carried out in Sweden in cooperation with, among others, the Tenants organization, UNEP and most adult education associations.

•  Eco teams were successful and thousands of people conducted sustainable actions with the support of each other. Since the book was made in the mid 90's, a lot has happened and it needs to be updated and adapted to today's digital world (although the book's contents are still as relevant). To update the EcoTeam program is one of the goals of our new venture.

Why GoEco?

•  The purpose of this project in the first stage is to inspire young people to learn more about their ecological footprint and create engagement leading them to make concrete sustainable actions in their everyday lives.

•  The overall goal is for participants to become more aware and have a more environmentally friendly and sustainable lifestyle.

•  The long term goal is to make it an edutainment app that will eventually be used both in schools and in companies to learn individuals and groups to become more sustainable, in an enjoyable way.

Many of GAP's older behaviour change programs were developed at a time when digital media was not as prevalent. We are now focusing on developing and adapting our programs to today's digital reality.

Why this is a European project and not a national project

We partner with four other GAP countries to share experiences and learn from each other. This way we can learn from those who progressed further or chosen other paths than us.

Who will gain from the results of our project?

Anyone who wants to know how new digital platforms and game mechanics can be used to engage their target groups in a joyful learning experience can benefit from our results.

Sustainability on organizational, national and European level

•  We are committed to make the project sustainable on an organizational level by taking care of the resources we have in an optimal way and also by cooperating with other stakeholders who have the skills we lack.

•  Nationally, the project can become sustainable in that we include those partners who are prepared to support long-term development.

•  On a European level, we are committed that our international partners will want to use the result of GoEco in their home countries. Any possible code generated will therefore be open for others to build on and modify according to their needs.

How we manage the project in our own organization

•  The project is part of GAP's efforts to develop and modernize our successful behavior change programs.

•  The project is led by a dedicated project manager who is assisted by a small team of experts and advisers.

•  To achieve our goals, we have partnered with organizations that have the expertise and experience that are missing within GAP.

•  Among other things, we collaborated with the Kaos Pilots in Aarhus Denmark, and the Pedagogical Centre in Gothenburg, the former drew up a sustainable business plan, the latter are experts in interactive learning and will assist us with their knowledge in this area.

How our project support the European agenda for adult learning

GoEco supports the EU's five priorities for adult education primarily through point 3 and 4, which among other things involves promoting active citizenship and boost creativity and innovation in adults and their learning environments. This is because we engage our audiences to take personal responsibility when it comes to sustainable development by living more sustainably themselves. We do this by making use of digital platforms combined with gamification to make it a joyful learning. We are inspired by the Game for Change. movement.

Between the lines-experiences, our lessons

•  Set realistic goals, it's been easy for us to run away and start having too high ambitions. This can be good when it comes to the vision but when it comes to goals, it is our experience that they need to be reachable for the motivation to be sustained.

•  Collaborate with those who are experts in their field to ensure high quality results.

Networking offers/needs

•  We are open for cooperation and would like to learn and be inspired from others' experiences. So all the tips and ideas for similar projects are welcome.

•  We are also looking for suitable focus groups with both younger and older people who can be be involved in testing the prototypes of interactive learning materials we develop.

•  Other tips, ideas, suggestions and proposals are also gratefully received!
