COMPETENCES OF DIRECTORATE OF ARCHITECTURE OF EXTREMADURA
The Directorate General of Architecture and Secretary of Architecture of Extremadura
develop politics related to buildings and the construction process, with special
emphasis on energy efficiency and universal accessibility of housing. It corresponds in
particular the following functions:
· To develop regulations on quality of buildings in Extremadura.
· To promote the training of workers and different agents related to building
· To study, disseminate and promote constructive technical solutions and increasing
energy efficiency and savings in energy consumption in buildings.
DEFEND THE RIGHT TO ACHIEVE A DECENT HOUSING
· Plan of Rehabilitation and Housing Extremadura (2013-2016) 2020 Housing Rehabilitation Program.

The main objective of LIFE EDEA-Renov project is to develop
a new way to evaluate, design and rehabilitate existing houses
including energy savings, sustainability and employment in
renewable energies criteria.
The main objective of LIFE EDEA project is to develop design
measures in new buildings in order to reduce energy
consumption enhancing indoor comfort without increase the
costs related to the construction of the buildings.

languages for technicians, builders

knowledge in sustainable

ANTECEDENTES
The main objective of FP7 MEEFs
retrofitting project is develop,
evaluate and demonstrate a innovate
modular façade in order to be applied
in rehabilitated building in Europe.

TITLE: EDEA-Renov: Development of Energy Efficiency in Architecture: Energy Renovation, Innovation and ICTs
TOTAL BUDGET: 3,2 millones de euros.
COFINANCED BUDGET (50%): 1,4 millones de euros.
The main objective of LIFE EDEA-Renov project is to develop
a new way to evaluate, design and rehabilitate existing houses
including energy savings, sustainability and employment in
renewable energies criteria.
DETAILED CLIMATE MAPS OF EXTREMADURA: CLIMEX
CLIMEX is a detailed study of the
Extremadura climate in order to
improve the accuracy of climate
studies and energy simulations in
Extremadura.
This work is a part of EDEA RENOV
project and it is useful to improve
the precision of the energy
simulations developed.
Nowadays Junta de Extremadura is
working to approve CLIMEX as a
national recognized document.
The climate files are available in
EDEA-Renov webpage and they can
be used with any simulation
software.

CONSTRUCTION BUILDING MANUALS
A large number of technical and
non-technical documents have been
developed in order to disseminate
the tests and improvements of
buildings rehabilitated during EDEA
Renov project.
These documents explain the most
recommended solutions for façades,
roofs, floors, windows, installations,
etc… according to sustainability and
energy efficiency criteria.
These manuals also explain the
process to develop energy
simulations in buildings
certifications, as well as useful advice
in order to improve the quality of
certifications developed and
improvements recommended.

These simulations have been
used to compare the energy
bills of these buildings with the
studies. This process has
improved the accuracy of the
simulation programs.
These simulations have been
used to calibrate and improve
the simulation program
developed by the project:
EDEAsim.
EDEA RENOV project has
studied the energy efficiency of
all the buildings studied in at
least 3 energy simulation
programs.
Using the results of these
energy simulations the
technicians of the project could
decide the most convenient
improvements for façades,
roofs and windows in any case.

EDEAsim
EDEAsim is an online tool, it allow to develop a
complete energy simulation of a existing building
evaluating costs and sustainability data of rehabilition
process.
EDEA sim is a simplified tool and it includes all the
developments of EDEA- Renov: costs data base, sustainability
evaluation and energy simulation methods.
This tool can be used by technicians or any building user:
dwellers, maintainers and owners.

SOCIAL NEIGHBOURHOOD REHABILITATION: SANTA ENGRACIA (BADAJOZ) Y SAN LÁZARO (MÉRIDA)
The main actions of EDEA-Renvo project have been developed in the
social neighbourhood Santa Engracia (Badajoz) and San Lázaro
(Mérida). These actions were: buildings energy improvements, studies
and workshops.
· Draw the plans of more than 130 different houses and more than 50 energy
studies of the houses.
· Redaction of rehabilitation project for 63 houses in San Lázaro (Mérida)
· Monitoring of 8 houses with 3 different monitoring technologies.
· Improvement of 10 houses in Santa Engracia neighbourhood (6 houses and 4
association buildings of the neighbourhood) including external envelop and
installations.
· Energy rehabilitation workshops for unemployed workers of the
neighbourhood.
· Monitoring and renewable energy systems installed.
· Provide assessment for neighbourhood dwellers in a technical office in order
to manage grants, activities, inform about energy efficiency or energy supplies
and bills.
· Thermography and Blower Door tests in buildings to evaluate the energy
improvements developed.

EDEA DEMONSTRATORS
Solar

EDEA demonstrators is a research and laboratory
centre for energy efficiency with 2 twin houses located
in Cáceres and developed during LIFE+07 EDEA project”
EDEA-Renov project use this centre to develop the following
improvements:
- Roof pond system with automated infill and temperature
control.
- Solar chimney including photovoltaic solar ventilation
support and entrances to the 2 floors of the house.
- Motorized blinds controlled by solar and temperature
system.
- Evaporation cooling system for the offices and
classroom of the centre.
- Rehabilitation of the classroom and rest rooms.
- New pavement to improve the accessibility of the
centre
These improvement has been developed with 2 goals:1- To include new installations and bioclimatic systems to realize the tests of EDEA-Renov project. 2- To improve the quality of the visits of professionals and students who visit the centre.

EFICIEX MONITORING SYSTEM
EFICIEX is a wireless, low cost and open sourcemonitoring system, this system is combined with amobile and online applications and it allows tomotorize dwellings and receive recommendations andalarms to our mobile phone.
In 2013 there were not in the market a monitoringsystems specifically designed for dwellings. Thecosts and the complexity of the existing technologieswere very high.
EDEA Renov project has developed a system usingRaspberry Pi® and Arduino® technology. This system isspecifically design for dwellings and it cost between150€ and 300 € per house (depending of the features).
The system has 2 comfort sensors (indoor andoudoor), 2 consumption sensors (electricity and water+ gas) and base station. This sensors are wireless anduse batteries.

renewable energies criteria.
