As Centre Point Sabah is approaching 30th Anniversary next year, the upcoming ma- jor upgrades the management focus on will be security enforcements, replacement of old pas- senger lifts and City Parade toilet refurbishment. Furthermore, infrastructure projects around the mall area are also the focus of our planning— such as Skybridge for pedestrian conveniences and surrounding road pavements to cater to tour bus. More importantly, the management is aware of the incident which had taken place at Carpark, and is taking action to install Safety Net and more CCTVs to prevent further acci- dents which has taken a toll on our business. This month, our mall welcomes a new look at the Carpark Entrance to Palm Square, with new walkway and full height glass walls, to refresh shopper’s experience. Moreover, at 5F a new food court will be opening soon in 2 months’ time with 13 new F&B businesses aiming to prolong our shopper’s stay within the mall. We also welcome new shops and restaurants opening this month— 7 Avenue Saloon (W7, 5th Floor), RELX Malaysia Store (G20, Ground Floor), and Young Hearts (G67, Ground Floor). Regarding for Marketing/Events side, this month’s event highlight includes Kids Funtivity: Write-It-Right, Sabah 10th International Youth Folk Dance Festival, and Otafuse Fair (Cosplay/Anime Event). The stage at Palm Square is currently un- der maintenance work for installing a new LED Screen to improve event quality and visual effect. We are determined to be the best Event Centre and the Mall to hold the most events in KK. As we expect normally that the market will be slower until August (school holiday), we advise all tenants and owners to not be discouraged, but to focus on staff training in customer services. International wide, modern malls now place fo- cus over 30% on F&B business and majority in life style/customer experiences to cater to future generations (especially the millennials). The man- agement urges all the owners and tenants of the mall to work together in upgrading shop lot imag- es so we are ready for business opportunities in August as we face competition against new shop- ping malls that has entered or will be entering into the market. On the 6th July 2019, the 6 years old spelling bee prodigy, Shezebelle Arieana had won the spelling competition orga-nized by the Smart Reader Kids. From five letter words to six letter words, the competition got tougher each round. A total of 20 participants from 5 to 6 years old took part in the competition. During the challenge, the spelling master will select a random word where the participants were required to spell accurately within the given time in front of the panel as well as a large audience of educators, students, parents and shoppers. The competition plays a good platform for the par-ticipants to develop self-confidence, public speaking and the ability to thrive under pressure. English language plays a significant role as a mode of communication to break the language barrier and also to extensively utilised in informa-tive literature, online website and finances. Spelling should be nurtured from a young age as it is essential to allow the children to attain a higher level of English proficiency.
