1. Poland 2. Information I live in Poland. The official name of my country is Rzeczpospolita Polska (Polish Republic). On the north there is the Baltic Sea. The Sudety and Karpaty mountains are on the south. Longest rivers are the Vistula river and Odra. Polands area is 312 679 km2, so its a 9th country in Europe. There are 38,5 million people. Poland has 16 provinces. The capital of Poland is Warsaw, where I live. Its in the Masovian province. 3. Polish flag: Polish emblem white eagle with a crown: Polish National Anthem Mazurek Dbrowskiego: 4. Borders of Poland Poland is in Central Europe. Our neighbours: west: Germany south: Czech Republic and Slovakia east: Ukraine and Belarus north: Lithuania and Russia. 5. Politics in Poland Poland is a parliamentary republic. Every 4 years people vote for people who will govern for next 4 years. The sejm and the senate make the laws which are the accepted by the president Now our president is Bronisaw Komorowski. 6. History Polish history is very long. The most important things: First people who came and lived on Polish territory were Slavic. Next we had kings. The last one was Stanisaw August Poniatowski. In 1772 there was 1st partition of Poland. Poland was divided into 3 parts: Russian, Austrian and Prussian. In 1918 Poland appeared on the maps again. We survived the Second World War but the we became a communist country under power of the USSR. We have been free since 1989. In 1990 we voted for our 1st president. Poland now is a democratic country. 7. The North- land of water On the north weve got the Baltic Sea. In many cities like Sopot or Gdask you can swim or sunbathe on the beach. In Gdask you can see a big port. Sopot has a beautiful 511 metres long sea pier the longest in Europe. Mazury is in the north-east of Poland. Its a beautiful place of many lakes. You can sail and enjoy pretty views there. 8. The South Our country has many resources like wood or steel. lsk is famous for its coal deposits. Weve got the Karpaty mountains in the south-east and the Sudety mountains in the south-west. Many tourists come here every year to see beautiful animals, plants and to breath fresh air. The highest mountain of our country is Rysy. It is 2499 metres high. 9.
