Eddie Sedibe Fruitand Veg Bakkies
now regulated
For those not in the know, Eddie Sedibe is the street’s name in Burgersfort where this light
delivery vehicles (bakkies) loaded with fruit and vegetables, park to sell to everybody. Eddie
Sedibe Fruit and Veg Bakkies, hawkers who sell fruit and vegetables from the loadbeds of their
vehicles and also members of the newly established Greater Tubatse Hawkers Association. As
such they register with the Association, obtain permits to trade in the informal sector in Eddie
Sedibe Street and receive a magnetic plate sign to affix to their vehicles to identify them as
regulated hawkers in Burgersfort. As can be seen in the photograph, the new dispensation
seems to be welcomed wholeheartedly by the vendors. More information about a fruit and
vegetable bakkie hawker permit can be obtained by contacting Mr Mohlala on 082 670 1216.

After years of rivalry, animosity and even court cases between members of rival organisations,
hawkers organisations in the Greater Tubatse Municipality this week finally buried the battle
axes and agreed to unite and form one organisation (photograph top left).
The new organisation, known from now on as the Tubatse Hawkers Association, pledged to
work with the Greater Tubatse Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) section to
regulate and develop this informal business sector in Burgersfort. The president of the new
united organisation is well- known local businessman, Mr Jackson Tjatjie (photograph bottom,
right).
The seat of the new hawkers’ organisation will be the original hawkers office in Eddie Sedibe
Street (photograph top right). An interim committee will steer the new organisation towards
maturity when a a new committee will be elected early in 2014. In the meantime Mr Patrick
Lekwadu (in the top right photograph in front of the office on the left),will be the interim chairman,
who will work with Mr Nelson Mokgotho of the LED office and Mr Sam Maphanga (interim chairman
of the disciplinary committee (right). The person in the centre between Mr Lekwadu and Mr
Maphanga is the coordinator for the hawkers to register for permits, Mr Mohlala. He can be
contacted at 082 670 1216.
At this stage about 165 hawkers are registered with the municipality and pay hawkers’ fees
of R120 per year. Registration takes place on a continuous basis and hawkers are welcome to
enquire at the hawkers office in Eddie Sedibe Street about registration. This office will be in
operation from Monday 15 July 2013.
Other good news is that hawkers whose stalls had been demolished at the old taxi rank in
Burgersfort a year ago, will receive new 3 metre x 3 metre gazebos soon. At that stage the
demolished stalls lead to widespread protests that closed the town for business for two days.
Greater Tubatse’shawkers finally

Curb stone trouble continues
This truck was photographed on Tuesday in Steelpoort where it wasparked in front of a sign prohibiting vehicles from parking there, withits tyres on the newly placed curb stones. These stones have beenpushed out of place shortly after they were installed and continues tobe damaged as truck drive over them. Unfortunately there is no
backing behind the stones to keep them upright and prevent easy
damage.
Fine tuning the lightsA team of workers fine tuned the traffic lights at the two entrances tothe Tubatse Crossing Mall this week.Heavy traffic backed up in long queues because of the lights notstaying green long enough for the congested lanes. This was a
problem every afternoon and especially during month end when peaktraffic in town is experienced.
The traffic lights will now provide a more evenly timed sequence toease the problem.

Dina Pule, Human Settlements MinisterTokyo Sexwale and Co-operativeGovernance and Traditional Affairs MinisterRichard Baloyi.
Transport Minister Ben Martins became thenew energy minister, switching places withDipuo Peters. Lechesa Tsenoli will now be
the Minister for Co-operative Governance
and Traditional Affairs, Yunus Carrim theCommunications Minister and HumanSettlements Minister Connie September.Four deputy ministers were also changed.John Jeffrey is now the Deputy Minister of
Justice and Constitutional Development,Michael Masutha is now the Deputy Ministerfor Science and Technology, Andries Nel is
the Deputy Minister for Co-operativeGovernance and Traditional Affairs andPamela Tshwete is the new Deputy Minister
for Rural Development and Land Reform. The President through his spokesman, MacMaharaj said: “The presidency wishes toremind opinion-makers that the President of
the Republic uses his prerogative whenappointing members of the national
executive. He does not need to provide
reasons”.The changes drew wide spread reaction frompolitical parties and unions - both positiveand negative. We asked readers how they feel about thechanges made on Tuesday?
Mr Saul Sehlabela said: “He fired those whoknow a lot about him. He is dictating. He isscared they will give some of that informationaway. I think it is a bad thing this reshuffle”. Ms Frieda Manoke said: “I think he is afraid
because we are heading for elections. Hewants us to think that he was doing his job.He should have fired Angie Motshekga!”.
Mr Joseph Magabe said: “The changes arenot fair. Tokyo Sexwale has done a good job- since the time of President Mandela. Zumashould be giving reasons because it looks to
us like some of them were doing a good job.Like Tokyo cleaned up Johannesburg andhere in the rural areas like Burgersfort wewere waiting for him to come and do thesame. Manoke is the nearest rural area to
town and must get preference to berenovated”.
Mr Bongi Nkosi said: “He should haveinformed the people why he is making thechanges before he did it. We don’t know why
it happened. We are in the dark in the ANC”.
Mr Sam Chiote said: “He must give reasons.
He cannot chase people away withoutreasons. I’m worried. I am a worker and if thepresident can just without reason chasepeople away from their jobs, other bosses
may want to do the same to their people.Maybe there was corruption and he decided
to dismiss these people before it can comeout”.
Mr Thami Malope said: “The Presidentrealized that some of the people were doing
corruption. He wanted to clean them outbefore the elections”.
Mr Michael Mnisi said: “I think we are facingthe elections and if he carry on with thesepeople there is the possibility of losing hisposition. His focus is also on people who
were were against him at Mangaung”.
Mr Collins Matjie said: “It is bad thisreshuffle. I don’t think he will manage tocomplete his term as ANC president.Remember what they did to Mbeki? The
same may happen to him. The people aretalking about that. Maybe by 2018 there willbe another good leader”.
Mr Billy Mnisi and Ms Kgaogelo Mnisi said: “It is not right. Those people knew the job and nowit will take time for the new people to get to know all the stuff. We worry too much becausemany things may now change and some careers are now destroyed”.
Me. Lee Stopforth sê: “Ek kyk nie meer nuusnie. Dit ontstel my net te veel, so ek weet nieeintlik iets van die politiek af nie. Skommeling
raak my nie. Hy kan doen wat hy wil, ek dinkook nie ander se opinie maak vir Zuma saaknie”.

cabinet reshuffle this week?
Mr Rex Sedikane said: “I’m not happy withthe changes. He should have kept them untilafter the elections next year. He cannotchange without a reason”.
Mr Lucky Ngobeni said: “I’m not ok with thechanges. I don’t understand why he did that.He must give us good reasons why hechanged these people”.
Mr Sendy Masia said: “He should not havechanged the cabinet. He must have kept allthe ministers. Zuma must give reasons why
he fired Tokyo Sexwale and the others”.
Me. Marlene Lombard sê: “Ek het nie eersgeweet daar was veranderinge nie. Zuma isdeesdae so ‘n voorbeeldige president. Ekdink wel hy moet iets met Angie Motshekga
gedoen het. Die handboek ding was ‘n groot
issue”. By haar is haar hondjie, Meisiekind.
Mr Andy Mohloke and Mr Benjamin Moima said: “Tokyo Sexwale wasagainst Jacob Zuma at Mangaung. Zuma made a mistake. Now he isgiving Tokyo a chance to mobilise against him with guys like Malema.Whether he should have axed Angie Motshekga or not we think it ispremature to judge”.
Mr Charles Moroke said: “I think if he hadreasons it was good, but to change justbecause of a personal matter will not be right.
There are things which is not public so wecannot really judge on whether it is good orbad he reshuffled”.
Me. Allison van der Berg sê: “Dit maak nie virmy saak wat hy doen nie. Jy argumenteernie en raak nie betrokke nie”.
Mr Makhanda Maphanga said: “Thosepeople who thought Angie Motshekga should
have been fired should not put all the blameon her for the textbook debacle. There aremany black children who do not haveresources. I also don’t think Ben Martin
should have been changed. The rest are ok”.
Ms Sizane Mkhizesaid: “I think he is
just getting rid ofthose who gaveMalema information.
He is scared. There
are big changes inthe ANC. We don’tknow which ANC it isnow. It is bad, wedon’t know why hechanged the
ministers becausehe did not comment. Some of the
questions that wasasked about it hecould not answer.
South Africa is fallingapart. I’m scared”.With her is Xolani.
