We'll begin with this base formy planet.I gathered a collection ofdifferent planet images, but this is the one I was happy with in the end, mainly becauseofthe nice textures.

Let's add some much needed atmosphere.
Create a new layer.
Using green #9bd55e and a hard round brush at 100% opacity, make it the same size as the Planet and position it
overthe top.

Next step is to select the Eraser tool and size it a bit smaller than the Planet with the brush at 0% Hardness.
With the planet base layer turned off, it should look like the image below.

We don't want any hard edges, we want it to look soft and hazy.
Select: Filter >Blur >Gaussian Blur.
I used a radius of10.0 pixels but you can experiment with this to your liking.

Now we need to resize the atmosphere so it is bigger than the planet to create a nice halo ofgreen.
Ctrl - T & hold the Shift key and drag the ring so it extends overthe outside edge ofthe planet.
That's the atmosphere finished!

Now forthe fun bit!
Create a new layer.
Using white I used some fractal space brushes that I downloaded for free, but you could probably find better ones,
oreven make your own!Make sure you put each brush on it's own separate layer so you can move/rotate them into position until you are
happy with the final result.
Some tiny stars scattered around the edge ofmy planet finishes it offnicely.
Lowerthe brush layers to 70% opacity so they blend in with the atmosphere.
I added a white glow spot using a soft brush.
As you can see, I only bothered to "decorate" the bottom halfofmy planet as I knew I'd be cropping the top ofmy
final image

We need to give our planet a nice overall hue to tie it all in.
Create a new layer.
Selecting green 9bd55e paint overthe planet in the areas it's needed. Don't worry about how rough it looks we'll fix
it in the next step.

For the final finishing touches and tweaks, I used the Blur tool (various levels ofopacity) to give my planet a nicesoft dreamy look, removing any hard edges. The Smudge tool was used to make some wispy bits around theedge.
You can get creative and make your planet unique by using a different planet base and a multitude ofcolours. Playaround with the layer modes and try an assortment ofexciting brushes!
