The Capitales put the game away in the fourth, scoring five runs keyed by a pair of two-run homers off the bats of Henry and Pete Laforest to take an 8-1 lead. The Colonials would create the final margin on a Danny Bomback double to score Quentin Davis. Both starting pitchers tossed all five innings for their respective clubs. Dan Sausville (3-0) gave up two runs on six hits for Quebec. Pat Moran (3-2) took the loss for Pittsfield. Offensively in the game, Danny Bomback had two hits, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Meanwhile, despite a first inning grand slam from catcher Alex Trezza, Worcester fell to Newark 8-7. They will be Shawn Gilblair and Sean Keeler. Gilblair is 1-2 on the season with a 4.45 ERA. The lefty had one of his better outings of the season against Pittsfield when he went 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs while taking a no-decision in a 6-4 Colonials victory on June 8. He is coming off his first win of the season, a 10-3 victory over the Quebec Capitales where he went a season-high seven innings, surrendering just three runs on three hits while whiffing a career-high eight batters. The lefty is in his second pro season, pitching in 36 games out of the bullpen for the Tornadoes last year. Keeler is 1-0 on the season with a 3.18 ERA in two relief appearances for Worcester. In his last outing, he earned his first professional win, going 1.1 innings while not allowing an earned run in a 10-4 victory over Newark on June 21. Tonight marks the first professional start of Keeler’s career after 10 relief appearances. A second year pro, he began his career with an 8-game stint with the Washington Wild Things (Frontier - IND) last season, going 0-0 with a 4.63 ERA, striking out 16 in 11.2 IP. GOING BATTY: Between the Colonials and the Tornadoes, four of the Can-Am League’s top five hitters will be on display this weekend at Hanover Insurance Park. Danny Bomback of Pittsfield leads the circuit with a .394 average while the Colonials’ Billy Mottram is fourth with a .376 mark. Chris Colabello of Worcester is second in the league in batting at .387 with Mark Minicozzi rounds out the quartet, placing fifth in the league at .367. IT’S A GREAT DAY FOR A BALLGAME, LET’S PLAY TWO! The Pittsfield Colonials have certainly taken Ernie Banks’ old refrain to heart over the last couple of weeks. Ever since a rainout on June 9 against the Tornadoes, Mother Nature has condemned the Colonials to six wash outs in their last 13 game days. The stretch has forced Pittsfield to schedule five doubleheaders between June 15 and June 24. Rain, unfortunately impacted one of the doubleheaders again yesterday as game two of the scheduled doubleheader between Pittsfield and Quebec was washed out after game one was called after five innings. Game two will not be made up and both the Colonials and Capitales will play a 46 game first half.
