Chuck Finder/Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: He was paid $440,000 last season, the first of a two-year contract. His new deal included a signing bonus, therefore, that amount along with half of the $125,000 signing bonus he received in May 2000 will count toward this season's salary cap—in addition to his $725,000 salary.
Chuck Finder, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: it's a $3.3 million deal that could grow because of playing time and playoff bonuses that escalate from $300,000 to $650,000 each of the three years. There was no change in the terms of the two-year deal he signed as a free agent from Carolina in May 2000, so Alexander will make $725,000 this season, then is scheduled to earn $725,000 in 2002, $750,000 in 2003 and $950,000 in 2004. He received a $850,000 signing bonus, of which a fourth will count against the Steelers' salary cap along with half the $125,000 signing bonus he got a year and a half ago. That means Alexander carries a cap figure of $1 million entering this season.

Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Burress finally reported to training camp at Latrobe yesterday and signed an intricate, five-year, $8.667 million contract that is the most creative rookie deal ever constructed by the Steelers. It includes a $6.4 million signing bonus and enough incentives to earn Burress, a 6-foot-6 wide receiver, $14.4 million over the life of the contract… The contract is worth $7.767 million in a straight-up deal because the initial signing bonus is worth $5.5 million. But Burress will receive a deferred signing bonus of $900,000, payable March 1, 2001, bringing the amount of the contract to $8.667 million… Burress will have annual salaries of $422,000 in 2000, $303,000 in 2001, $408,000 in 2002, $514,000 in 2003 and $620,000. If he is reasonably productive in his rookie season, Burress could earn another $1,031,250 in incentives. Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Foster's salary cap value for 1995 against the Steelers was $2.7 million. They must account for his accelerated signing bonus of $500,000, so their net gain on their cap this year is $2.2 million. They also will save his $2.55 million salary in 1996.
Carolina will pay him according to his contract, which calls for a salary of $2.45 million this season.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Steelers received little in return, a sixth-round draft pick next year and a conditional fourth-round pick in 1997 based on Foster's performance.

Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Steelers are betting $24.25 million that guard Jeff Hartings can play center… Hartings received a $5.75 million signing bonus as part of his six-year contract with the Steelers. He will count $1.7 million against their salary cap this year.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: All will lower the club's available salary-cap room except for Hartings, who took a pay cut from his $4.75 million compensation due this year and had his contract extended by one year to 2007. Hartings' new contract reduced his salary and roster bonus from $4.75 million to $2.2 million; he also received a signing bonus of $1.75 million. His salary in 2007 is $3.6 million.

Rick Gosselin, Dallas Morning News: The Steelers extended the contract of Maddox in June, giving him a five-year, $4.25 million deal that included a $500,000 signing bonus. He's on the books for just $825,000 in 2003.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Steelers gave Maddox a $500,000 signing bonus to extend his old contract… Maddox receives a base salary of $525,000 this season with small annual increases. His salary next year is $650,000, and goes to $750,000 in 2004 and ' 05 and $900,000 in ' 06…. If Maddox continues to be their starting quarterback, he will receive bonuses based on playing time that could bring him another $1,125,000 each year. He also will receive a roster bonus of $25,000 next year and $100,000 in 2006 and a workout bonus of $50,000 next year.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The new deal keeps Maddox's salaries the same as in the previous contract, except that it adds an extra year onto the contract, 2007, when the quarterback will make $1.3 million. His other salaries remain the same -- $750,000 this year and in 2005 and $900,000 in 2006 (with a $100,000 roster bonus). The Steelers also gave him a $2 million signing bonus, $500,000 of it up front and $1.5 million deferred between September and November… that makes the contract technically worth $5.8 million for four years, or an average of $1.45 million annually. Last season, Maddox earned $650,000 in salary, $25,000 in a roster bonus and $50,000 in a workout bonus. He picked up another $400,000 in performance incentives: $200,000 for playing at least 75 percent of the time on offense, $100,000 for surpassing 3,000 yards passing, $75,000 for throwing at least 15 touchdown passes and $25,000 for having a passer rating of at least 75…

Note: If Maddox participates in 50 percent or more of the Steelers offensive plays in 2004, a new schedule of playing time incentives will be triggered: 55 percent of offensive plays -- $100,000; 60 percent -- $200,000; 65 percent -- $300,000; 70 percent -- $500,000; 75 percent -- $750,000* Passer rating: Between 75-79 -- $25,000; 80-84 -- $50,000; 85-89 -- $75,000; 90-94 -- $100,000; 95-99 -- $150,000; 100-up -- $200,000

Aaron Wilson, NFP: In 2014, Miller's base salary will be $1.02 million, $5 million less than it was originally. However, that $5 million has been converted into a signing bonus, which will be prorated over the next three seasons. Jerry DiPaola, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Polamalu, the 16th overall choice in the draft, received a five-year, $8.275 million contract that includes a two-tiered bonus of $5.264 million, with $1.264 million payable when he signed July 28 and $4 million due next March. There is also a total of $3.2 million in performance incentives over the course of the contract that could push the potential value to $11.475 million… The Steelers will pay Polamalu a $225,000 salary this year -- the rookie minimum -- with his base wages increasing to $305,000, $566,000, $827,000 and $1.088 million through 2007.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post Gazette: His signing bonus of $10,975,000 is the largest the Steelers have ever paid, topping the $9 million they gave Hines Ward two years ago.
John Czarnecki, Fox Sports: He will collect almost $15 million over the next two years…
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Polamalu signed a three-year extension that brought his four-year total to $36 million. The $29.6 million in "new" money over the three new seasons equates to a $9.867 million average per year (APY), the highest ever for an NFL safety… According to a league source, Polamalu received a $10.55 million signing bonus and reduced his 2011 base salary to $3.45 million, making the six-time Pro Bowler's year-one haul $14 million… Though not specified, Polamalu's 2011 base salary is essentially guaranteed. Pittsburgh saved
$312,500 in 2011 cap room with the extension, the rest of which consists of non-guaranteed base salaries of $6.25 million in 2012, $7.5 million in 2013 and $8.25 million in 2014. From 2012-14, Polamalu has a $250,000 incentive tied to Pro Bowls and playoffs, but there's a $500,000 max. during those years. That means that if Polamalu is an original ballot Pro Bowler and the Steelers make the playoffs in 2012 and 2013, that $250,000 is not available in 2014.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Pos-Gazette: Polamalu’s move will create $4.5 million in salary-cap space this year. They converted $6.75 million of his $8.25 million salary for 2014 into a bonus, and he will receive the remaining $1.5 million in a salary in 2014. He also has non-guaranteed salaries of $6 million in 2015 and $5.75 million in 2016.

Details of rookie deal courtesy of Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Suh's Pro Bowl selection this week adds a cool $1 million to his expected $405,000 base salary in 2011. On a more modest and futuristic note, in 2014, Pouncey will receive a $62,500 raise, with McCourty's salary increasing by $50,000.
Mike Florio, PFT: Pouncey has agreed to terms on a five-year extension worth, according to a source with knowledge of the contract, a little over $44 million. Coupled with the remaining year of his rookie contract, Maurkice has a six-year, $48 million contract. The deal pays Maurkice a signing bonus of $13 million… Thanks to non-guaranteed roster bonuses payable on the third day of the 2015 and 2016 league years, Pouncey will pocket $17.75 million by March of next year. He’ll have $23 million earned by March of 2016, and $26.5 million through the first three years.
Mike Florio, PFT: The contract given this week to Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has a signing bonus of $13 million… It has no other “guaranteed” money… the Steelers have to actually pay Pouncey $3.75 million on the third day of the 2015 league year and another $3.5 million on the third day of the 2016 league year.

Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: he signed an eight-year, $102 million contract. It includes so-called guaranteed money of $33.2 million and has a $25.2 million signing bonus… The contract is not an extension but a new 8-year deal that will pay him $2.5 million in salary this year and $4.75 million in 2009, plus a roster bonus next year of $3 million. His salary leaps to $8.05 million in 2010. He will earn $11.6 million annually through the 2014 season. He will earn $12.1 million in the eighth and final year of the new contract, 2015… His $33.2 million in guarantees -- his signing bonus, plus $4 million payments in 2009 and '10 -- protects him in case of a football injury, which would not include a motorcycle accident.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Roethlisberger will take home more than $35 million in bonuses and salaries this year as part of the five-year, $99 million contract he signed FridayThe Steelers gave Roethlisberger a $31 million signing bonus plus a salary and roster bonus of $4.25 million, all payable this year. In addition, Roethlisberger, 33, will earn annual salaries/roster bonuses of $17.75 million in 2016, $12 million in 2017, $17 million in 2018 and $17 million in 2019… he can earn additional pay of $9 million for the combined seasons of 2018 and 2019. To do so, he must reach certain team and individual incentives in the first three years of the contract, which could bring the total to $108 million over the life of the five-year contract.

Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Steinberg, Stewart's agent, arrived here yesterday and negotiated a four-year contract worth $1.85 million for the Colorado University graduate. Stewart, who will sign the contract today, will receive a signing bonus of $530,000 and annual salaries of $240,000, $300,000, $360,000 and $420,000. He also has liberal incentives that could add $1 million in the final year of the deal.
Jarrett Bell, USA Today: Under his original contract, Pittsburgh quarterback Kordell Stewart would have earned a base salary of $ 360,000 this season and $ 420,000 in 1998. But Stewart figures to earn roughly $ 1 million in incentives this season from the four-year, $ 9 million deal he signed last spring. Add the $ 2.65 million bonus and a $ 250,000 base, and Stewart's 1997 take could be more than 10 times what the first deal called for… Stewart's bonus package includes $ 500,000 for playing 75% of the plays, $ 100,000 for making the playoffs, $ 100,000 for winning the division and $ 100,000 for passing for 2,500 yards. If Stewart, with 2,933 yards, passes for 67 net yards Sunday at Tennessee, it's another $ 150,000.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: their young quarterback will earn $27 million over the next five years, including an $8.1 million signing bonus… he agreed to reduce his salary from $2.05 million this season to $400,000, in essence making it a $6.45 million signing bonus. He will play for $2.5 million in 2000, the original amount of his previous contract… His salary rises to $4.4 million in 2001, $5.3 million in 2002 and $6.3 million in 2003, but those are not guaranteed.

ESPN: Woodley has signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract that is thought to be the second-highest deal in team history behind only Ben Roethlisberger's, a source familiar with the agreement told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Friday morning. Woodley's deal will pay $18.1 million in the first year and $27 million over the first two, the source said.
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Woodley signed a five-year extension worth $52.5 million on August. Woodley received a $13 million signing bonus, $4 million option bonus and a $1.1 million base salary which resulted in a 2011 cap number of $7.7 million. In 2012, Woodley was due a $3.4 million base salary and had a $5.5 million roster bonus due on the 5th day of the 2012 league year for a cap number of $11.5 million. On Monday, Woodley agreed to a restructure that lowered his base salary to $700,000. The remaining $2.7 million in base salary was combined with his $5.5 million roster bonus and converted into an $8.2 million signing bonus, which will be prorated over the remaining five seasons of Woodley's contract. Woodley's cap number in 2012 is now $4.94 million. Woodley's base salaries in 2013-16 were unchanged, but $1.64 million was added to each year's cap number.

Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-gazette: Woolford signed as an unrestricted free agent from the Bears last year to a four-year, $5.85 million contract that included a $1.3 million signing bonus.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Steelers will pay cornerback Donnell Woolford a $1.3 million signing bonus, but he won't get all of it right away. Because of his two DUI convictions, they have spread it out to protect themselves against a possible third. He will receive a $500,000 salary and another $25,000 in likely incentives, bringing his first year salary cap number to $850,000. His salary in 1998 more than doubles, to $1.15 million, then goes to $1.3 million in 1999 and $1.5 million in 2000.
