GLORIA ANN BERNARD (nee Zappa)
April 8, 1944 - June 26, 2018
Gloria passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a long courageous battle with cancer in her 75th year. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Patrick Bernard, loving parents Dorothy and Pete Zappa. Survived and dearly loved by her children Jeff Bernard, Stephanie (Dan) Stone, Nicole (Rich) Bernard, Peter (Karin) Bernard. Gloria was the loving Nan of Larissa (Chad), Brayden (Elise), Cole, Anjeni and Ayla. Loving sister to Joyce Goss, Gwen (Cam) Zappa and Brenda (Rod) McLeod.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Cancer Society.
A joint funeral service will be held for Gloria and Tom Bernard at the Our Lady of Nativity Church on Saturday July 7 at 11:00am.

On behalf of the Seniors Wellness Program I would
like to say Chi Meegwetch to all of the wonderful
participants of the program. The SWP will be
coming to end for the year and I wanted to express
how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to
work alongside the Elders/Seniors/Community
Members 55+ of Pikwakanagan. We shared many
laughs, tears, memories and knowledge.

engaged within the community and for our

As the Crew Lead of the Cultural Environmentalists, you are to provide group leadership and assist in researching, identifying learning opportunities, organizing and implementing the Cultural Environmentalist activities.
Duties:
Provide supervision, motivation and guidance as the team lead for a working group of 5 Cultural Environmentalists; assigning and monitoring staff duties while identifying/addressing any potential hazards.
Lead the development of project schedules, including identifying; researching and coordinating educational opportunities and also field.
Assist in promotion of Cultural Environmentalists program by taking pictures of Cultural Environmentalist engaged in work;
Assist with Pow-Wow preparations, and provide information to community member and/or visitors.

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Child and Family Services/Prevention Services Supervisor the Prevention Worker is responsible to assist the Prevention Services Supervisor for development and provision of community directed support programs (Prevention Programs, Children’s Mental Health, and Foster Home) for the effective management of family and support individual cases; for the provision of child and youth related assistance and support to families and individuals; for the development and support of program resources; for general administration of the Child and Family Services program and for the performance of other related duties determined by the Manager of Social Services.
The Child and Family Services/Prevention Worker will be required to carry out responsibilities that shall include appointments (i.e. Band Court Representative) or membership of committees necessitated by the administration of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan.
Basic Requirements:
Possess a community college diploma in social work or a related field and/or have
extensive and successful experience working with individuals, families and groups (A
minimum of two years – preferably in a First Nation setting);
Willing and able to work flexible hours;
Have a Vehicle and a class G driver’s License;
Experience with computer operations and software programs. Preferred programs
include Windows, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access-Data Base.
As a condition of employment, the successful applicant will be required to provide an acceptable Canadian Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

WATERSPORT PROGRAM!
On Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer
months we will have our Kayaks and SUP’s
available for use in the bay at Randy’s Campsite. The
Water Sport program will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. and will also be weather permitting, if it’s
raining, thunder, lightning there will be no program
on that night! We also please ask that you respect all
marked areas at the Campsite! Park up on the higher
ground, should you come down for the evening to use
the equipment!
This year we have rented a shipping can that stores all
our water equipment at the campsite, please visit
Lance on Tuesdays or Thursdays to sign out the
equipment at the shipping can! We have added to our
inventory this year so we have plenty of water sport
equipment to enjoy!
IMPORTANT!
You must be 16 years of age to take a Kayak or Stand-
Up Paddleboard out on your own, any children/youth
under the age of 16 years MUST be accompanied by a
parent.
Information/Waiver forms MUST be completed
before use of the water sport equipment.
LIFE-JACKETS MUST be worn at all times and we fully
encourage you to bring your own
life-jacket should you have one (must be current and
appropriate in size/weight).

Come out and join me every Monday and Wednesday @ 1:00 pm for an hour of warm up, walking and cool down. Everyone is welcome to join. Bring your walkers, cane, baby strollers and don’t forget your walking shoes.
You can walk as long or as little as you like. This work out is for your own individual needs.

HEARTWISE PROGRAM
What is the Heartwise program? Is a cardiac program designed by the Ottawa Heart Institute for individuals who have had a cardiac event or individuals at risk. What does it involve? It is up to you, what your fitness needs are? Together we’ll assess your needs and goals. You will be supervised throughout you’re the program to assure your exercising at a safe level. How do I join? Once you had a cardiac event or are at risk you will be sent to cardiac rehab in a hospital setting. It’s very important to go these sessions so they can make sure all is good with your heart. After a few sessions you can ask to be transferred over to me TerryAnn at the Pikwakanagan Heartwise program.
Together we can make your heart a happy healthy one!!

ABUSE PROGRAM (NNADAP)
The NNADAP Program focuses on the healing and recovery of substance use disorders by providing care in a live-in treatment centre, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Length of treatment cycle varies from centre to centre, however most are 4 – 6 weeks in length.
Residential Treatment Centres offer a combination of intensive therapeutic services, cultural teachings and ceremony. If you have thought about reclaiming or working towards healing, balance and recovery or to gain the skills necessary to heal from addiction, please contact Alex your community NNADAP Addictions Worker to discuss your options and to begin your treatment planning.
