Project Description:

For this project I will take my own photos, to put on and in the magazine. On the front cover I will be using someone who is relatable to the target audience of the HipHip genre, and further use clothes, which are iconic and idealistic to this target audience. I will use accessory’s such as gold neck chains and rings, to really make my model look to part. I will be competing, with magazines such as XXL to win over the HipHop audience, therefore my price ill be just below theirs offering a more affordable option, still at the same level of professional quality. Extending on this, the price I want to use is £3.50 where XXL pitch theirs at £4.50 this is a clear price difference. This is important because XXL is also my magazine of inspiration, and has inspired much of my ideas such as having two contents pages with iconic mastheads. Finally I will release my magazine once every month to insure diversity between each magazine and also make sure that they are collectable, this will mean each one is different and there is enough content to fill it up.

Photographer:

I am going to be taking the photos of my magazine insuring that they are perfect to attract the target audience. I want to use a mid shot of my model so that the clothes being worn stand out and are noticeable. I want my model to have a direct gaze straight into the camera, creating a personal relationship between reader and my magazine. The lighting will be fairly dark with a red florescent spot light around the model, who’s

Casting:

I am going to take a photo of Malachie Clark, because his features such as skin skin tone, and the fact he has dreds as hair creates the perfect HipHop character in my head combined with the use of good costume and lighting.I also was considering taking photos of my brother due to his unique style which stands out, as is a mix of smart, street and HipHop. This would be perfect as fashion is a huge part of the persuasion which draws people to a person and will work just the same for people being attracted to a magazine.

Model requirements:

My model would ideally be a fairly tall, male with short (skinfade) hair. This makes them look sharp and as they’re tall they can look down at the camera, demonstrating as a large iconic HipHop character, who perhaps looks quite edgy and threatening. This gives this stereotypical “cool” vibe in which HipHop audiences look for. The reasoning for my model to be male is that, females are generally perceived as being more conserved and not integrate too much with HipHop, as they have no interest unless they are of young adult age (for example 19) but we very rarely see largely popular female HipHop artists. If I could choose I would have my model of African American ethnicity as this is the background HipHop generally spawned from, therefore making the magazine look like it holds the same classic values with classic stars featured on the front cover, perhaps suggesting my magazine can be trusted to deliver true authentic HipHop content. If my model could be attractive to male

Wardrobe and Look:

GENERAL REASONING FOR CLOTHING CHOICES-HipHop has a huge influence on fashion and street ware, artists inspiring millions with their styles. It’s important to show a good style and recognizable brads on the front cover, as this also creates collectability for the magazine. Finally an all-black outfit represents the dark, crime side of Hip-hop and is a favorable choice for many Hip-hop fans and artists.

Supreme Crewneck-Supreme is a street wear brand founded in 1994 which due ti its rarity creates hype when featured with celebrity’s. This (the iconic “box logo”) is one of the most sought after pieces of supreme clothing, and the general idea behind its rarity, value and sleek design creates a

huge fan base. Hip- hop artists generally are huge street wear icons

with massive influences and these artists have been seen wearing

supreme numerous times.

OG Palace 6 Panel-Hats are a common accessory for Hip-hop

icons to wear. The idea of covering your face by using such accessories relates to

crime greatly Hip-hop inspired.

Supreme X Jordan 5s-Jordan’s are America’s infamous trainer that have been a

huge basis of fashion for many young Americans, especially growing up in the late 20th century in places like the Bronx

and LA. Hip-hop artists often grew up with a passion for seekers (especially Jordan’s) and because of this commonly

feature shoes in their lyrics.

Hair and Make up:

I have specifically chosen my model because of their particular hair style, being dreds and shaved sides this gives a gangster appeal also being unique to him and the style he aims for. It is very HipHop and iconic as many artists have been seen with this style of hair such as Wiz Khalifa, Lil Yatchy and Lil Uzi, therefore this will help the front cover in looking like an realistic HipHop magazine. I don’t think that my model will need any make up, as this takes away from the rustic, rough street look im looking for. However I changed this towards the end of the course to use myself (as imaged previously) as I thought the clothing I had was more conventional, and was much easier to do.

Where: I will take the images at my house with a clean white background.
