BUSINESS SERVICES

This publication is made available with the support of our advertisers. Please support these businesses!

FOOD SECURITY in our community is becoming more and more of a concern as the prices of groceries continue to soar. I thought it may be of interest to have a look at some facts concerning our local ser-vices:

Family Place served 1496 lunches provided on Wednesdays during the last year.

$1804.57 was received in donations to offset the cost of these lunches, (approximately $4000.00) Boston Bar – North Bend Food Bank served 1050 people last year – an average of 88 people per

month or 15% of our population. Of this, 25% were children, 16% were seniors and 52% identified as First Nations.

The average monthly costs for the food bank were $1277.00. These facts represent the actual numbers of people who picked up hampers each month. Currently 24% of our population is registered with our Food Bank and have found it necessary to access it from time to time. This shows us that people usually only use the food bank when they really need it. The generosity of our community is something we should all be very proud of, and I would like to thank everyone who donates their time, funds and/or food to our programs.

If you can find it in your heart and in your pocketbook please continue to donate. Items that we always need for the food bank include: canned soup, ramen style noodles, canned beans, Kraft Dinner, pasta, rice, canned tomato or pasta sauce, tuna or other canned meats, peanut butter and cereal.

Fresh produce from our local gardeners is always greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at Canyon Lanes the week of our food bank (please see monthly Update calendar).

Thank you to the Community of Boston Bar-North Bend.

BUSINESS SERVICES

This publication is made available with the support of our advertisers. Please support these businesses! ~ Cst. R. TUMBAS

WELCOME PHIL...

From speaking with a lot of you, everyone is eager to learn when the "new" police officer will be in town! Well folks, Phil is here and ready to join our awesome community! In fact, by the time you read this, some of you will have already met Phil.

Phil is coming to us from the big city of Chilliwack and is excited to have the opportunity to help everyone in any possible way. So, when you see Phil driving the police truck around town, give him a wave and say hello!

Seatbelts and Cell Phones

Over the past couple of months, we have noticed a trend that has us worried. We wanted to remind everyone of the importance of wearing seatbelts and not using electronic devices while operating a vehicle. That applies to not only beginning and the end of your trip but also anywhere in between. If you are heading to your neighbours home or "just up the road," put your seatbelt on and leave your phone alone.

Between Darren, Phil and myself, we have almost 30 years of experience and too many times, we have seen accidents that drastically change people's lives who were traveling "just around the corner" from their house. We understand it can be annoying to have to put the seatbelt on or extremely tough to not check that phone when it rings but it is for everyone's good.

Let's be safe everyone!

speedy recovery! Please direct any questions

HOPE CARE TRANSIT supplies a transportation service to folks from our area that need to get to a medical specialist appointment or diagnostic procedure in the lower mainland. This service is available to ANYONE needing a ride. The amount of subsidy available is determined by an individual’s needs and financial circum-stances (donations are gratefully accepted. ) If you require transportation to medical appointments out-

side of our immediate area, you must first become a Care Transit client . Rides to medical appointments in the lower mainland are then arranged for you through the Hope Care Transit Office at 604-869-3396. Client Referral Forms are also available for our community’s Better at Home clients. Contact Karen at 869-1831 or the health care staff at the Anderson Creek Clinic. Care Transit is a Non-Profit Service powered by caring volunteers! If you live in the Boston Bar-North Bend area and are

interested in becoming a Care Transit volunteer DRIVER, please contact Wanda at the Hope Care Transit office at 604-869-3396. Drivers are remunerated for travel at .42/kilometer.

You must reserve your seat by calling 604-869-1831 on or before Wednesday. Non-seniors can purchase tickets at Canyon Lanes. (Cash only please). This is a door to door ride so an address or pickup location must be provided. Seniors 55+ yrs. may qualify for subsidized fare. See below**.

HOPE: May 4th, 11th, and 18th

CHILLIWACK: April 25th

PLEASE NOTE! On Chilliwack trips, we ask that our riders be considerate of fellow passengers and our driver.

Our driver will drop you off in Hope on the way to Chilliwack but he CANNOT wait for you while you run errands in Hope. As well as this causing schedule delays, any excessive hold-up can be very inconvenient for passengers who have made appointments in Chilliwack. Schedule interruption also causes late return times, which is very tiring for many of our senior riders. Our driver will pick you up in Hope at a designated time and location, on the return trip to Boston Bar. Please be there! We are happy to be able to provide this transportation service but we must also request, when purchasing your items, that you please keep your fellow riders in mind, as well as the space that is available on the shuttle bus on any Hope or Chilliwack trip. Very large and overweight items will NOT be permitted unless this has been pre-arranged when booking your seat. Please keep in mind that our shuttle bus is designed to transport passengers, groceries and other basic necessities. Everyone’s comfort is very important to us so please direct any grievances you might have to me, and not our driver, so that I can attempt to resolve any troublesome issues that might occur. Thank you,
