August 2016
Chief’s Corner
August con nued to be a busy month with special events. Na onal Night Out was once again a great event for the community. Our special honorary guest was Maine Community Youth Assistance Foun‐da on, (MCYAF). Teri Collins received special recogni on for MCYAF’s role in making Park Ridge a safer community. A special thanks goes to all those who supported this event. Also, the Department supported the Park District with its annual carnival. The four day event went without any issues. The football season started and our volunteers will play a key role in safety and security for these events.
The Mental Health Grant held its last Crisis Interven on Training (CIT) this month. By the end of this class, all but three members of the Department will have been trained in the 40 hour CIT training. The Mental Health Resource Guide con nues to be distributed throughout the Community. We s ll have some training to be conducted with Dispatch, Fire and our volunteers.
Mariano’s approached the Department about an ini a ve called “ Stuff the Squad Car”. This is a week long ini a ve to help fill local food pantries. Patrons of Mariano’s can donate a food bag to our local pantries—St. Paul of the Cross and Maine Township. At the end of the week, the dona ons would be sym‐bolically dropped off at the food pantries. Mariano’s did this at two loca ons in Chicago and it proved to be very successful. Staff will be working with Mariano’s for our program the week of October 23‐29. Both pantries are eager to par cipate in this program.
We have been invited to par cipate in an Ac ve Shooter Drill. Staff has begun working on this drill with Rosemont Public Safety. This event will be in October and is sponsored by the Department of Home‐land Security.
