plexes or vacant lots.
Branches should be placed at the edge of the roadway just before the beginning of each service cycle. Service cy-
cles always start on Monday mornings. Branches placed at the edge of the roadway after the chipper truck has passed
will be left until the next service cycle. Please put your branches at the edge of the road by Monday morning.
Branches should be cut to a minimum length of 4 feet and a maximum length of 6 feet.
Only branches 10 inches in diameter or less will be accepted for pick up.
Branches should be neatly stacked and placed three feet from the edge of the roadway with the cut ends of the branches
facing the roadway.
A fee of $5.00 per log and $10.00 per root ball will be added to your water bill for each root ball and log picked
up. Root balls and logs will only be picked up upon request. Call City Hall 598-3400 to make requests for this
service. Logs must be cut between 18” and 24” in length.
For safety reasons the chipper service only takes branches cut to the proper length. Any materials other than
properly cut branches will be left for the resident to dispose.

gram. The program runs from March 17, 2008 through October 24, 2008.

CHILD SAFETY RESTRAINT INSPECTIONS
Everyday, children sustain serious injuries and die in motor vehicle crashes. Many of these
injuries and deaths can be avoided with the correct use of child safety seats and safety belts.
However, many adults are unaware they are using the safety restraint incorrectly, thereby
placing their child at risk. Many safety experts believe that between 80 percent to 90 percent
of child safety seats are installed and/or used incorrectly.
The City of Palos Hills Police Dept. now has an officer certified to inspect infant and child
safety seats in your vehicle by appointment. Please call the Police Dept. at the non-emergency
number 598-2272 to ask for Officer Nowak, during regular business hours to make an
appointment or with any other questions on this important service. Just a few minutes to have
your child safety restraint inspected can make all the difference in the life of your child.
Once again the non-emergency number is 598-2272 ask for Officer Nowak.
PENNIES FROM HEAVEN
What good is a penny? Most people would tell you it’s not good for anything. In some cases
that’s true. You can no longer buy a piece of gum with it and most vending machines will not
even take them. Some people even throw them away, but to others pennies can mean a meal.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository allows shelters and food pantries to purchase food for
just pennies a pound. What good is a penny? Not a lot when its only one, but gathered together
for the benefit of others less fortunate their value becomes apparent and they become very
strong. Please bring in your pennies to The Palos Hills Community Resource & Recreation
Department, 8455 West 103rd Street, Palos Hills.
Together we can make a Difference!

MOVIE IN THE PARK
Location: Town Square Park
Date: August 15th
Time: Dusk

From creator Jerry Seinfeld comes ―Bee Movie,‖ a comedy that will change everything you
thought you knew about bees. Take a close look at the world through the eyes of one bee in
particular - Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld). A recent college graduate, Barry wants more out
of life than the inevitable career that awaits him and every other worker in New Hive City - a
job at Honex… making honey. Barry jumps at the chance to venture out of the hive, and soon
encounters a world beyond his wildest dreams. When Barry inadvertently meets a quirky
florist named Vanessa (Renee Zellweger), he breaks one of the cardinal rules of beedom - he
talks to her. A friendship soon develops, and Barry gets a guided crash course in the ways of
the human race. When he shockingly discovers that anyone can purchase honey right off the
grocery store shelf, he realizes that his true calling is to stop injustice and set the world right
by suing the human race for stealing the bees’ precious honey.

Trick Or Trunk…. World’s safest most unconventional Trick or Treat!
This community event is a lot of fun and has the added advantage of being far safer than con-
ventional trick or treating. What is Trick or Trunk?
Residents who are interested in a trick or treat set up where everyone decorates their cars,
RV’s, or vans; to have children trick or treat from their vehicles trunk. Instead of going door
to door the children will go from trunk to trunk. All vehicles will be backed into a parking space
with the trunk facing out. The entire car or just the trunk can be decorated. Bring enough
candy/ prizes for approximately 150 kids. You may dress however you would like but we ask
that costumes be kid friendly. You may have music playing at your site and you may decorate
the ground around your vehicle.
If you like to have fun on Halloween, and have the opportunity to dress up and pass out candy
to children, win prizes for the best decorated car trunk and costume. Then you need to par-
ticipate in Trick or Trunk. The event will be held on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 during the
Children’s NOT So Haunted Hayride from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at 10801 Roberts Road.
Please call the Community Center at 430-4500 for more information. Trick or Trunk Participa-

Behavior Policy The Palos Hills Community Resource & Recreation
Department has an established behavior policy relative to
inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate behavior is defined as
that which disrupts a recreation program and which requires
a program leader to call for a stop of the behavior due to its
