Rancho Mirage“The Realm of the Desert Bighorn” has been known for its celebrity residents such as Walter Annenberg, Frank Sinatra, and former President Gerald Ford. It boasts world-class medical facilities at Eisenhower Medical Center, one of California’s busiest libraries, a restaurant row, and numerous designer home furnishings shops. The River at Rancho Mirage is a popular shopping, dining, and movie venue.
Palm Deser tThe center of the valley is a retail mecca, with shopping centers all along Highway 111. A block south is El Paseo, where art galleries, upscale boutiques, and numerous restaurants line the boulevard. Palm Desert is known for promoting public art; in particular, check out Civic Center Park and the El Paseo median. The city also is home to McCallum Theatre, The Living Desert, and campuses for a community college and universities.

Indian WellsTennis lovers know this city for hosting the Pacific Life Open Tennis Masters Series at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, but golfers and spa lovers also will find much to enjoy in this city with a median household income exceeding $130,000. The Golf Resort at Indian Wells features the Callaway Performance Center (one of four in the world), and world-class resorts include luxury spas with a vast array of body-and-mind treatments.
La QuintaNamed “America’s Ultimate Golfing Destination” by the Robb Report, this city recently opened the first of two public courses at SilverRock Ranch. This one was designed by Arnold Palmer. But there’s more to the city than golf.
Hiking trails above the valley floor offer breathtaking views, and there are plenty of shopping and dining options — including those in the village atmosphere of Old Town La Quinta.

IndioDiversion is the theme in Indio. Agriculture is as at-home here as glitzy casino gaming and blue-blooded polo ponies. Majestic date groves (Indio is the largest producer of dates in the western world) mingle with retail merchants and family-friendly neighborhoods. And golf courses abound. Landmark Golf Club, with dramatic desert terrain and an open-to-the-public policy, is home to one of the sport’s most prestigious events: the legendary Skins Game. In Indio, cultural influences are to be savored. Experience the Southwest Arts Festival, discover the “flavor” of the city at the annual Tamale Festival, or tour the midway and ride the amusements at the National Date Festal and Riverside County Fair.
