The victory secured the Yellowjackets a place in the CIF- Southern Section Central Division football playoffs which start on Friday. Colton (5-5, 3-2) suffered a set- back early in the game---falling victim to the pass play link up of Fontana duo quarterback Myles Saler and receiver John Salcido that put the Steelers ahead 7-0 after one quarter of play. The Yel- lowjackets managed to tie the game through a Martinez 22 yard pass to receiver Isaiah Cisneros, but a couple of defensive miscues culminated into two Fontana scores. Running back Ronnie Watts rushed into the end zone and minutes later Saler threw a pass to Gerson Diaz to put the Steelers up 21-7. Colton would re- spond with a touchdown drive, but went into the half trailing by seven points. Martinez would prove to be the critical force behind Colton’s resurgence during the second half. With 4:10 left to play in the third quarter, he launched a 35 yard pass to Jason Taylor for a touchdown that cut the lead to three points. The Yellowjacket’s defense stymied Fontana’s defense throughout the fourth quarter, which would set up Martinez to power the offense and secure the game winning moment. Colton head coach Chris Mailo was humble in victory, giving Fontana credit for putting up a fight. “They’re not going to give it to us,” he said. “Those guys turned a corner and did a great job. I tip my hats to them. We really had to battle our tails off tonight.” Mailo said that execution will be critical to their survival in the playoffs. “We need to play fast from the start,” he said. “We can’t wait until halftime to start play- ing.” Colton will travel to Moreno Val- ley Rancho Verde on Friday No- vember 15. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. Eisenhower’s Nigel Lee inter- cepted Redlands East Valley quar- terback Armando Herrera three times en route to a 28-14 victory over the Wildcats. The win pro- vided them with their second con- secutive share of the Citrus Belt league title and the league’s num- ber one seed in the CIF-Southern Section Inland Division playoffs. Even though REV (5-5, 4-1) threatened early in the game with promising drives, the Eagles (8-2, 4-1) managed to force the Wildcats to turnover possession five times in the first quarter. The opening kickoff served as a precursor to the frustrating night REV would expe- rience, as they fumbled the ball, al- lowing the Eagles to take possession and take a 7-0 lead with only two minutes played. One of Lee’s interceptions proved to be the highlight of the game. Herrera was hit on the Ea- gles blitz---forcing him to throw the ball that the Senior strong safety and wide receiver ran for 101 yards into the end zone. Eisenhower will host Corona Santiago on Friday November 15. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. Other Inland area matchups saw San Gorgonio finish their season a perfect 10-0 as they defeated Ar- royo Valley 63-8, while Yucaipa defeated Redlands 44-6 to claim the upset and the final Citrus Belt League playoff spot.
