The breakfast— hosted by the Redlands Service Club Council— is planned from 8 to 10 a.m. at The Asistencia, 26930 Barton Road in Redlands. Proceeds from the event will help complete construction at the adjacent Heritage Park and support the remodeled Historic Asistencia hands-on Museum Room, which is a field trip stop to all 4th grade students in the Red- lands Unified School District, as part of the Heritage Auxiliary Tours of the Assistance League. For $5, service club supporters can delve into a generous amount of mixed fruit, two sausage links, a heaping scoop of scrambled eggs and two fluffy, warm buttermilk pancakes—all served up fresh by members of the Kiwanis Club of Redlands Noon. Organizers plan to have hands-on activities for children of all ages, including artifacts and old house- hold tools at the Asistencia during the pancake breakfast. Once stomachs have settled, guests are encouraged to “work off” their hearty meal by volun- teering for a community cleanup at the nearby Heritage Park site. Organizers are looking for help- ing hands to assist with pulling weeds and other beautification projects at the park. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and shovels, and any extra tools or supplies that could be of use during the cleanup event. A previous pancake breakfast was held in August, selling more than 500. Organizers are hoping the turnout is the same for Satur- day’s volunteer day. Renovations at the Asistencia began in April and a community service day April 27—which in- cluded more than 2,000 volun- teers—launched the development of Heritage Park. “We’re encouraging people to come to the breakfast, then volun- teer an hour in the park,” said Rose Palmer, vice president of the Red- lands Service Club Council. The Redlands Service Council, which is providing financial sup- port for the projects, is spearhead- ing the renovations and park development, said Michele Nielsen, curator of history for the San Bernardino County Museum. Tickets for the breakfast are $5 per person or $25 per family. Tick- ets can be purchased through the Redlands City Clerk’s office, 35 Cajon St #4 in Redlands.
