Saint Didacus School has been serving the parish and community since 1939. Today after eighty years, the parish school is still thriving and vibrantly serving preschool to 8th grade from our parish and beyond.

I extend my profound gratitude to all of our parishioners who tirelessly and generously give support to our school through various ways and means. Please continue to help our school through your kind donation to our Annual Catholic Appeal. For the whole month of March your donation of any amount will help not only our parish school but also other catholic schools in the diocese. Our parishioners who wish to enroll their children in our school are given a discounted tuition rate. The diocese, too, has programs to assist catholic families through tuition assistance.

I remember, when I was in high school my parents could no longer afford to pay the tuition so I courageously asked the principal of the Catholic school to help me so I could continue my study. She gladly offered that if I would be willing to work extra after class I could continue my schooling free of charge. It was difficult but I persevered and was able to graduate. Today, I always look back with my heart full of gratitude to the kindness of catholic school administrators.

Fr. Rick

Emails. Carpools. Shopping lists. Home repairs. It can seem like we move so quickly from one thing to the next. Our news comes in sound bites and headlines. How often do we take time for silence, for prayer, for reflection, for wisdom? Jesus warns us of stumbling through life without an adequate sense of where we're going. "Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall

into a pit?" This Sunday's Gospel isn't about fumbling along but offers a self-check on our own motivations. "Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?" Without adequate self-reflection, it's easy to become blind to our own faults. We go through life's motions as our bad habits linger or even increase. We may become increasingly impatient, we may avoid important tasks, we may neglect the emotional needs of our spouse. Perhaps, in the process, we find fault with those around us. In the words of Jesus, "remove the wooden beam from your own eye first." So how do we know? How can we notice the hidden faults in our lives? "A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of store of evil produces evil." Do you notice certain relationships that have become strained, or situations where you know you don't act your best? Perhaps this is an area where you are acting out of sin, rather than virtue. The truth is, all of us are a mixture of light and dark, vice and virtue. We can't pretend we're perfect! But we also need to take time to pause and prayerfully examine the fruit we're bearing. —Cycles of Faith

They will also have information on various agencies that can help with whatever you or a loved one are encountering - be it depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, stress, or other struggles. It is NOT a therapy session (they are not trained to do that). It is more a chance to be with others, share, listen with empathy, learn about available resources and pray together. All are welcome.

Are you using your God-given gifts in the way God intended? Do you compare yourself to others and complain about what you don’t have instead of being thankful for what you do have? God gives each of us unique gifts and a unique plan. Listen to how God is calling you to use your gifts, to bear good fruit, for the glory of His name.

Rite of Election — Sunday, March 10th

At the Rite of Election those in our RCIA program along with those in RCIA throughout the Diocese will affirm their inten-tion to join the Church. The Church makes its "election" of the catechumens to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) at the Easter Vigil. In the presence of the bishop they write their names in the Book of the Elect as a pledge of fidelity. They are now called "the elect" and begin a Period of Purification and Enlightenment for the remainder of Lent. Keep them in your prayers as they continue their prepa-ration to receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

Volunteers are needed to join with the Creation Care Team to lead a Lenten Stations of the Cross. If you would like to help, come to

their meeting on Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30 pm in the Parish Office.

Abstinence is a penitential practice consisting of refraining from the consumption of meat and is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. In addition to abstinence, fasting is to be observed by all Catholics between the ages of 18-59 (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self-denial that are suitable to their condition.

The St. Paul Center is happy to announce that their Genesis to Jesus Bible study will be available for free during Lent! Gene-sis to Jesus presents the whole sweep of salvation history, and helps you make sense of the Bible, literally, from Genesis to Jesus. By the end of Lent, you'll understand the importance of Easter as the eighth day of creation in light of God's unified plan for our salvation. Join thousands of Catholics online by participating in this free study! Register at: www.stpaulcenter.com

Matthew Kelly’s Dynamic Catholic website is offering a free email program that will guide you on an incredible journey toward the-best-version-of-yourself. From Ash Wednesday to Easter, you’ll discover ways to transform your life in forty days. Register at: www.dynamiccatholic.com/best-lent-ever

March is the month that Mother Church dedicates to St. Joseph, the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus. St. Joseph is the model husband who listened to the will of God and devoted himself to care and provide for his wife and child. The Church recognizes St. Joseph twice in the Liturgical Year. He is honored once for being the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mar. 19) and again for being a good worker and provider for the Holy Fami-ly (May 1). St. Joseph led his family on the straight and narrow path to the glory of God. Saint Joseph, protect our home. Pour forth

from heaven blessings on our family. Remain in our midst. Help us to live in love

and harmony, in peace and joy. May the wholesome fear of God strengthen us that virtue may adorn what we do and our way

may lead to heaven. Amen.

Thank you to 4th & 5th Grade Religious Education students who recently made St. Valentine’s Day cards for homebound parishioners. They each

included a similar drawing of Jesus and had uplifting statements of God’s love. The cards were sure to bring a smile to those who received them!

Lent begins this week. Here are a few suggestions to help make this Lent a more meaningful time.

Guidelines for Fasting & Abstinence

All are welcome so please be one of the more than 1,000 people by God's grace who attends this life-saving event. THEN after be sure to regularly join in prayer at the very same prayer site, anytime from 5am to 11pm, starting Ash Wednesday and ending 40 days thereafter. We come together as a Community and humbly stand before God and ask for His forgiveness and mercy.

Lent is a blessed time: we can slow down and actively reflect on our spiritual journey. We can change the course of our lives. The New Testament word for repentance means changing one’s mind so that one’s views, values, goals, and ways are changed and one’s whole life is lived differently. The change is radical, both inwardly and outwardly; mind and judgment, will and affections, behavior and

lifestyle, motives and purposes, are all involved. Repenting means starting a new life.

Here at St. Didacus we’ll be offering opportunities this Lent for you to walk more closely with our Lord on your journey to new life. Keep this schedule at hand and join us for our many different offerings.

Papa Francisco, Febrero 2019
