REMINDERS WHEN RECEIVING COMMUNION DURING MASS

The Holy Communion is offered only in the form of bread.

Receiving Communion by hand is strongly recommended.

A er receiving Communion, you may sit or kneel if you cannot stand for a long me. If you choose to remain standing, you will sit when the last person in the en re church (main Church, North and South Chapels) receives Communion.

If you remained standing, you may a sit a er everyone had received Communion. There is no need to wait for the priest to sit or when the remaining consecrated Hosts are placed in the tabernacle.

Dear St. Christopher Family,

As we come to the end of this fiscal year, July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, we are projecting to have a small surplus for this year. Once again, thank you very much for your generous support to our parish. The newly formed Parish Finance Council will review the financials for this fiscal year-end and prepare the Financial Report. They

will present our financial standing sometime in September.

Thank you to those of you who have sent in the pledges for the Together In Mission campaign. We are currently at 68% of our parish goal.

I am happy to report that we just installed a new HVAC unit for the Sacristy. This unit has not been operational for at least 3 years! Now, all HVAC of the entire church are working and are ready for the hot summer in West Covina.

Beginning in August, we will resume the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (Adoration) on First Friday of each month, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, after the 8:30 AM Mass until 8:00 PM. There will be Benediction at the conclusion of Adoration on First Friday only at 6:30 PM.

The Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament requires persons to be present throughout the duration of the exposition, so there will be a sign-up sheet for these days in the vestibule for you to commit some time in adoration.

Many people assume that Sunday Mass and daily prayer fulfill their “Christian obligation” but in addition to these, we also need to spend personal time with Jesus. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus has two habits: he is always in a synagogue on a Sabbath, and he is away by himself in prayer. This means we need to spend time with God in public worship and “be present to him personally” in prayer. Please consider spending one hour with Jesus each week.

St. Paul had a tough time with the Corinthians who presumed that an authentic apostle has the ability to perform “miraculous healing” as a sign of being chosen by God. However, St. Paul declared that the weaknesses, not the glorious power of healing, are signs of being an apostle because the power of the crucified Christ effectively works through weaknesses. Therefore, St. Paul was content with weaknesses and hardships for the sake of Christ.

It is the same for all of us when we come to Jesus in prayer. It is not about gaining for us the “miraculous power” but to come in weakness, so God can fill us with his divine power.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Inviting all children from age 5 and up to join our Children Liturgy of the Word during the 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Sunday Masses. The children will be dismissed after the Opening Prayer, and will be learning the Scriptures at their own level. They will be back in Church to join the congregation after the Offertory.

We are still looking for volunteers to assist us in this ministry. Please contact Sr. Annuncia in the Parish Office or at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and service to our parish.

Daily Rosary Please join us in praying the rosary every morning (Monday—Saturday) at 8:00 AM in the main Church before the 8:30 AM

Mass. Thank you for your daily devotion to our Blessed Mother.

Let us give Fr. Daniel Malavar, our priest in residence (Chaplain of Queen of the Valley Hospital) a warm welcome to our parish.

Then call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
