PASTOR’S COLUMN Dear Friends in Christ, Welcome back from vaca on if you have been away for awhile. I am pleased to offer a special blessing to students and teachers this weekend. It’s that me of year when, ready or not, school gets geared up again. Our readings this weekend begin with “wisdom” and end with “quarrelling.” Perhaps some-thing similar will happen next week when the RNC comes to Tampa. The first couple I joined in matrimony (21 years ago) now live in Tampa. I visited them recently and he, who now works for the FBI was sharing with me the challenge of organizing the security of the RNC. The many challenges of keeping the protest-ers from one extreme away from the protesters of the opposite extreme have to be infuria ng for our law enforcement community. We have been ge ng schooled these past few weeks in the sixth chap-ter of John’s gospel. Next week will conclude our five week journey through this wonderful Eucharis c chapter of the most theological of the four gospels. While the Eucharist is THE sign of unity for us Catholics…there is s ll much work to do in the area of eccumenical dialog and healing of wounds in the broken body of Christ. Maybe you are married to a non-Catholic and it is a challenge to your spouse to come up for a blessing. If our faith in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist is strong then we must treat one another with more dignity and re-spect than is o en evident in the parking lot when depar ng Mass on Sunday or Saturday evening. I am looking forward to addressing the parents of our li le ones as they bring them for the first day of school on Tuesday. The children in our Early Child-hood Center are a true blessing to the parish and they always have a way of brightening my day whenever I poke my head into their classroom or playground ac vity. Babies come into the world with a natural ability to grip. The grip loos-ens in me and it is the parents that hold on ghtly to their children, not wan ng them to grow up too fast. Parents have the awesome responsibility of training their child in the prac ce of the faith. Encouraging the parents who will u lize our Early Childhood Center to be about the business of good stewardship by teaching their child how to be a cheerful giver is a piece of “wisdom” I intend to impart upon them which I hope will not bring about “quarrelling.” Please pray that we have enough catechists and teachers aids for our faith forma on program this year. Pray that all of the young minds and hearts in forma on will be open to the promp ngs of the Holy Spirit. Pray that parents will take their role as the first teachers of the faith seriously and that they will receive the support and encouragement they need to grow in their faith as well as pass it on. Peace in Christ, Fr. Tom J. Anastasia, Pastor

COME JOIN US
This Wednesday, August 22, 2012 as we begin our RCIA program for adults who are interested in joining the Catholic Church.
This is the period called "Inquiry". If you know someone who has expressed an interest in the
Catholic faith or is just curious and would like some ques ons answered, have them come to our sessions
star ng Wednesday, August 22. We will be mee ng each Wednesday in the St. Igna us
portable from 7-8PM through September 26. Contact: Judy Zink 659-0956
THE PROCESS The catechumenate is rightly called a process, rather than a pro-gram, because it is a spiritual journey of adults that varies according to me, place, and individual needs of each catechumen or candi-date. The process primarily focuses on faith development (rather than on a mastery of Church doctrine) and on maturing in one’s re-la onship with God. In addi on, the process nourishes the building of rela onships, not only among catechumens, candidates and cate-chists but the larger Chris an community of the parish as well. INQUIRY The first phase in the faith journey ---and thus in the rite---is called inquiry or the pre-catechumenate. During this period inquirers have the opportunity to form rela onships, with one another and with the RCIA Team. The sessions are informal and o en center upon the life stories that have brought each member to this me and place. Ques ons such as “What is faith?” “Who is God?” “Why does God care about me?” are considered. There is also the opportunity to ask ques ons related to “things Catholic”: Why are there statues in Catholic churches? What is the role of Mary in the Church? How much power does the pope have in the Church? and so on. This a me in which each inquirer can take a long and hard look at the Catholic Church and the ways in which its members worship to-gether and live the Chris an faith. First impressions of the parish community, and of all involved with the catechumenate process, are very important in this phase. Its culmina on is the inquirer’s deci-sion to enter the catechumenate, the period of formal prepara on for entrance into full membership in the Catholic Church.
ATTENTION MINISTRY LEADERS
You are cordially invited to a end a Ministry Leader Mee ng on Saturday, September 8, 2012 star ng with Mass at 9:00a.m. in the Chapel followed by the mee ng in Cronin Hall. Please RSVP to Carol at (813) 727-5214 or email [email protected]. If you are unable to a end, please have a member of your ministry a end on your behalf.
NEW STUDY!!
A new study will start on Sunday, September 9th in the St. Igna us
portable from 8:30am to 10:00am.
James is one of the most prac cal books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collec on of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Chris ans in every-day life. These teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between the compe ng demands of this world and their faith. This study offers "pearls for wise living" by apply-ing the wisdom of James to the present day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Chris an life, James offers a wealth of prac -cal solu ons for handling and even sanc fy-ing everyday circumstances.
Your Bible study group will:
• Find an anchor to hold you steady through the storms of life.
• Learn how just a few small words can change your en re life—for be er or for worse.
• See how God's wisdom helps us face suffering and tempta on.
• Learn the secret to finding joy in the midst of trials.
• Find value in suffering. • Find reason to trust in God's provi-
dence over wealth or posi on or per-sonal talent.
• Learn to recognize the source of discord and the way to peace.
If you have any ques ons, please call Judy Zink at 813-659-0956
