Term 2 Week 10 2nd July, 2020
We made it to the end of term, Thank You! As we come to the end of term this Friday, I would like to acknowledge the work of the many. Thank you to our students who have done their absolute best in these trying times. They have worked remotely, learned how to navigate new learning platforms and then flipped back to learning in our classrooms. Thank you to our amazing students for your resilience, dedication and love of learning. This could not have happened though without the support of our amazing families and community. Thank you to our families for supporting your children’s learning and for supporting our school as we made many changes during the learning from
home and learning back in the classroom. We appreciate your support of the changes that are still in place for the pick-up and drop of procedures and for the online canteen. As we navigate through the holidays into term three further changes may occur, but we take our advice directly from the NSW Department of Education. If you would like to access the website for the latest updates here is the link. https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19
And last but not least is our amazing staff – Thank you! – You have worked harder these last two terms in the most trying of conditions and you are still smiling, showing up for work eager to lead learning across our school. Thank you to the amazing teachers and staff who work here – I am truly proud and humbled by the work ethic, the love of teaching and the love of our students. In my career I have never experienced such a tumultuous time in teaching let alone what has been happening around the world. I do take solace however in the wonderful, calm and professional manner in which our school staff managed a very intense time. During term two we were appointed two additional temporary teachers. The two teachers Mr Stephen Towell and Ms Janis Tahu have been a wonderful addition to our school. Mr Towell has been teaching S2/3W to ensure continuity of the teaching program and Ms Tahu has taught many classes across the school supporting wherever the need was. Thank you for both your efforts and supporting our wonderful school. Sadly, Mr Towell will be leaving us at the end of this term. He will however continue working and supporting many schools though his business called Digi Ed. We will most definitely see Mr Towell back in our school in the near future. Fortunately for us Ms Tahu is staying with us for the remainder of the year. The end of term harvest has been amazing. The gardens have thrived in this wonderful weather and under the watchful eye of Mrs Jurisic, thank you to the gardening students and staff who look after our produce, livestock and recycling projects whether it’s the worms, the paper recycling or the bees. We are fortunate to have such dedicated Eco Warriors at our school. School resumes for students on Tuesday 21st July, Wishing all our families a safe and happy holiday.

News from S1H
Hello from the wide world of learning we have all been part of this term. S1H have taken part in many learning experiences and have worked tirelessly to make the most of every opportunity presented to them. We have been learning to apply a variety of skills to our day to day lives and interactions in group activities. We listen to everyone’s ideas and are showing how well we work as a team in S1H.
We have made towers using spaghetti and marshmallows and discovered that the tallest tower is not always the most stable…. We learnt to test out different prototypes until we were happy with the end result of the experiment. If we needed to change the original plan, we were open to all suggestions and adapted our thinking accordingly.
S1H were on the edge of their seats during writing lessons looking inside the Fearsome,
Frightening and Ferocious box, to find nothing but a cute, little bunny inside. They were in fits of
laughter finding out that the assumed beast was nothing more than a ‘bunny’.
Thank you for taking a journey with us into our learning. Take care from the S1H family.

Learning through investigative play Play comes naturally to children and allows for an expression of self-identity, stimulates their wellbeing, enables them to build social relationships and is important for their learning and development. Play provides opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create, improvise, imagine and investigate. Play provides a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking. Play can expand children’s thinking and their desire to learn. Play-based curriculum is intentional and relates to the interests of the children. Our learning stations are organised in a thoughtful, deliberate and purposeful way. Our learning stations are science, maths, literacy, dramatic play, construction, tinkering, art and craft and sensory. This promotes the development of the whole child. Check out all the learning that happens in the preschool when the children are provided investigative play opportunities.

Office News
Office Hours – 8.30am – 3.30pm
Changes to the daily collection of your children As the school office is at its busiest between 8.30 to 9.30am and 2.30 to 3.00pm, we would like to encourage parents/carers to make plans prior to school in regards to changes in pick-up arrangements. Whilst we recognise that at times there can be some unexpected changes in after school arrangements for students, can you please try and minimise calls by pre-organising where possible, with students. At times, the office is inundated with calls and messages needed to be given to students often with only a few minutes notice. The wellbeing and safety of students is our paramount concern and we do not want to risk messages not being received or unavoidable confusion.
