PARISH VISION STATEMENT As the Parish of Saint Columbkille, we strive to be a welcoming, caring, Catholic family that transforms lives, proclaiming the Kingdom of God.
(Vision is about who we want to be in the future…)
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As missionary disciples of Jesus, being formed as a community through Scripture and Sacraments, we are sent into the world to joyfully proclaim the Gospel with our lives.
PARISH MISSION AND VISION
Body and Blood of Christ! Our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist is at the core of what makes us Catholic. Jesus’ real presencein the Blessed Sacrament is the source and ultimate end of everything we do as a parish family. Why do we have a school? To assist young people in forming a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in
the Eucharist. Why do we feed the hungry and take care of the sick? To introduce them to our personal relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist. AsCatholics, weholdfirmtoJesus’wordsintheGospelofJohn, chapter 6, when He said to the crowds: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will liveforever;andthebreadthatIwillgiveismyfleshforthe life of the world." Jesus is not fooling around when He gives His disciples this teaching and the Eucharist remains our most important connection to establishing a relationship with the Blessed Trinity. We believe that when the priest prays the words of consecration over the bread and wine they truly and substantially become the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is why we spend so much time adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The COVID-19 pandemic not only caused the temporary suspension of public Masses for 10 weeks but also the temporary closure of our Eucharistic Adoration chapel. Beginning this Sunday after the 12:00 p.m. Mass, we are reopening the chapel on a limited hourly basis from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day. Not all our Eucharistic Adorers are able to return to Adoration right now so we are limiting the hours of the chapel until we return to full strength after the pandemic subsides. Please observe the posted signs, social distancing and cleaning protocols when visiting our Adoration chapel. RCIA Candidates Fully Initiated this week! At the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday for Corpus Christi, we will bring our RCIA candidates into the Church! They have been working with Fr. Michael since September to discern the Catholic faithandpreparetoreceivetheSacramentsofConfirmationand First Eucharist. Please pray for Nicole Geletka, Zachary Ammons, Sandra Bock, William Chylik III, and Tommy and Jenna Manson – father and daughter. Never forget, the Lord is with us, always!

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRAYER
FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMOR Triumphantly the new bride placed the dessert on the table. The pastry was rectangular, about 18 inches long and 4 inches wide. “What is it?” her husband inquired. “Why,darling, can’tyousee? It’sapie.”“Ratherlongfora pie, isn’t it?”Of course not, silly, it’s rhubarb.” (fromSTEVEALLEN’SPRIVATEJOKEFILE,2000) That must have been rather a surprise to see a rhubarb pie hidden under that pastry crust. What we have hidden under the form of bread and wine is so much more astounding for we have Jesus Himself in our midst. He wants to be so much a part of us that He comes to us as the Sacrament of Eucharist, heavenly food for our daily journey in this life. As we consume Jesus in His Body and Blood, let His love consume us so that we become what we eat and drink to have His life within us.
REVERENT RECEPTION OF THE EUCHARIST As we celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday, our attention is called to the Precious Body and Blood of Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. This is a good time to take stock of how well and reverently we receive Christ, who is truly present in the Eucharist. Are we aware of mortal sin on our souls? All mortal sin must be confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation before we receive the Eucharist, lest we incur further sin for receiving unworthily (1 Corinthians 11:29). Do we participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly or are we in a pattern of receiving the Eucharist while rarely receiving sacramental absolution? Our participation in the Eucharist presumes our participation in Reconciliation. When it comes to the way in which we physically receive the Host: in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite, which is what we celebrate at St. Columbkille, we are permitted to receive either on the tongue or in the hand. Each form of reception is to be done properly. In both cases, after the minister says, “The Body of Christ,” we acknowledge this reality by responding “Amen” and giving a slight bow of the head. Then, if receiving on the tongue, the head is tilted slightly back and the tongue extended. If receiving in the hand, form a “throne” for Christ, according to St. Cyril of Jerusalem, by cupping one hand under the other. Allow the minister to place the Hostflatinthepalmofyourhand–donotgraspforit. When receiving in the hand, please place the Host in your mouth while standing before the minister. The minister must watch to ensure that the host is received to protect against potential desecration. It is not appropriate to walk back to your pew with the Host! Then, after consuming the Host, check for particles on yourhandandfingers– these are still the Eucharist – and consume any remaining elements of the Host. During the COVID pandemic, when approaching the communion minister, you are to pull your mask below the chin, present one hand resting on the palm of the other and after responding “Amen,” the communicant reverently places the Eucharist in the mouth and immediately replaces their mask. A blessed Corpus Christi Sunday to everyone! May Jesus in the Eucharist bless you abundantly and draw youeverdeeperintotheFather’sdivinelife.Seeyouinthe Eucharist!
