OUTLANDERS ongoing portrait project by SHANTEL LIAO Alina from Ukraine, in Paris “This is Shantel, someone who has been moving around alone since age 18. Since then I’ve never been a local anywhere. I take photos. I’m fascinated about the relationship between people, space and stuff. This is a photography project about people on their way, people from everywhere settled in somewhere for a while or longer. We make selection of personal belongings together: objects with memories or personalities. I remember the moments and stories we shared, appreciate to be accepted to be in their private zone - where they dream, where their own world was built in the other town. It’s all about portrait, portraits tell who they are. Would you take me to your place, talk with me and allow me to make a portrait of you?”

About the artist ! Was born and raised up in Taiwan. Studied theatre in London, photography in Paris. Before then, was in Canada to speak English and Japan to speak Japanese. Awards includes IPA, PX3, 1_Wall, etc. Solo and group expo were hold in Taipei and Tokyo. !

Here are some questions I’ve been asked:Who are you looking for? - Basically, people who has another nationality different than the local country.
So, how many have you done so far? How many are you planning to collect? - About 25 nationalities in one city, Paris, where the project started (at 2015 May). The goal is to collect 70-100
portraits in total to make the final selection in 2016. What are you going to do with the photos?- It’s a personal project, later on it might go on publication , at the moment I’m simply
enjoying the working process (and worry about the travel cost). All these amazing people I met have brought magic into my life. Does it need to be at home?- Yes, please!
