Our Target Audience Age We are planning on targeting an audience of around 16-27. We believe this age range would be ideal for our video as our video includes a cast that are of a similar age. This means that our audience will be able to relate to the characters in our video. Also the young aged band we are going to us will appeal to our audience as it shows them that anyone can become a popular band if they keep trying. I also think this age would be an ideal target for us as our main character is in the middle of that range. This means that young people that have a similar story to ours in our video can relate to it and might actually give them strength to carry on. Also the moral behind our video will hopefully persuade people not to do drugs or drink alcohol as even though it can give you a few minutes of happiness it will cause long term affects that might affect you for the rest of your life. Gender Our gender ratio is around 75% male and 25% female. We believe the male gender will watch our video more than female as our video is a rock band which have connotations which link it to the male gender such as masculinity. However we do believe that our video will be watch by some younger girls as they tend to be attracted to strong, male dominated bands and videos. To appeal to our audience we will make sure our band was dressed smartly to appeal to the female side of our audience. We are going to make the boy and the drug dealers dress in more masculine clothing such as jeans and hoodies. Our video doesn’t back up Laura Mulvey’s gaze theory as we don’t have any women in our video. However we are going to use an idea from the theory and make our band appeal to our female audience rather than the idea of having women to look at. Social Demographic We went on to the websites UK tribes to find what sort of social demographic our audience is- http://www.uktribes.com/ Although there wasn’t a rock based demographic we did find one called ‘Trackies’ which does relate to the section of our audience that has a similar lifestyle to the boy and the drug dealers in our video.

Our Target Audience

Age

We are planning on targeting an audience of around 16-27.

Gender

Our gender ratio is around 75% male and 25% female.

Social Demographic

We went on to the websites UK tribes to find what sort of social demographic our audience is- http://www.uktribes.com/

Although there wasn’t a rock based demographic we did find one called ‘Trackies’ which does relate to the section of our audience that has a similar lifestyle to the boy and the drug dealers in our video.

Occupation

Mainly students from 6th form to university. Even though some of the video (such as the section with the drug dealers) does seem to give the connotations of being homeless and uneducated we do believe that our audience will have a home and will be in education. This is because we want our audience to understand that anyone can reach their dream not matter what situation they’re in.

I think our audience will have a weekend job or a part time job that they can do in-between school. I think this because our audience is quite young so they won’t have left full time education yet.

Interests and Hobbies

We think that our audience will prefer action programmes and films. We believe this because they are young and energetic meaning that they won’t want any programmes that are slow and boring. We think that our target audience will watch programmes like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Hunger Games’. They also spend quite a lot of time gaming or computers with their friends who also play.

We think that our audience will also be interested in heavier rock/metal types of music like ‘Bring me the Horizon’ and maybe more indie music such as ‘Arctic Monkeys’ and ‘Imagine Dragons’.

Characterisation

Our ideal audience member is Ryan from London. He is a 19 year old boy who likes indie/rock music such as Arctic Monkeys. Music has always been a big part of his life, he’s constantly looking for the latest hits on modern music sites like Spotify and Soundcloud. Not only is finding new music a passion of his also how he listens to it is important. He spends most of his money on the latest headphones and speakers so he can hear every last note.

He is a well-dressed boy who keeps up with the modern trends of society. His liking of action films like ‘Jack Reacher’ and ‘Taken’ contributes a big part to what he talks about with his friends. He’s a big follower of Youtube and subscribes to many large music companies and bands. Not just large bands also he’s looking out for new and upcoming bands like ‘Royal Blood’ who he believes are going to be the next big thing.

We think characterisation is very important in terms of the meaning of the video. As we follow the boy through his life it becomes apparent that he is in a lot of trouble. He doesn’t really have an aim in life and his health is decreasing. Eventually finds something to aim for in becoming a musician and we want this message of being able to make something of your life a reality for anyone no matter who you are.

Uses and Gratifications

The main use and gratification of our video is for people to realise that they can reach their dreams no matter what. Our video is useful for people as they will understand that they can turn their life’s around no matter what they have done in their life’s.
