Each week in Word and Sacrament we will be provided with comfort and challenge, wisdom and strength to bear witness day by day to the marvels and wonders of the King- dom of God. We listen and work as that Kingdom grows, like seed sown in the earth, invisibly but surely and steadily, while God’s saving plan is brought to fulfillment through the ordinary events of our daily lives. Ezekiel sees God lifting up the lowly tree and making the withered tree bloom. Jesus encourages us with the tiny mustard seed that grows into a hearty plant to remind us that the Kingdom of God will grow from small beginnings to an instrument of salvation for all. St. Paul tells us that our experience of God’s trustworthiness, thus far, should make us a people of undaunted courage and unshakable faith.

REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

O ur gathering on this Lord’s Day marks the re-sumption of our counting Sundays in Ordinary

Time. We will read successive passages from the Gospel of St. Mark together with Jesus’ teaching on the Bread of Life from St. John. Each week in Word and Sacrament we will be provided with comfort and challenge, wisdom and strength to bear witness day by day to the marvels and wonders of the King-dom of God.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT CABRINI Last week the Board of Education of the City of New York signed a 21 year lease with Cabrini. This lease takes effect

on August 14th of this year for the school and September 1, 2016 for the Convent. The two remaining nuns living in the

convent, Sr. Martin & Sr. Denise are moving to the convent in Good Shepherd Parish in Marine Park this July.

In order to get the school ready for Pre-K this September we are going to be out of the Parish Hall by June 23rd to give

them time to put down a new floor. Everything in the Parish Hall that belongs to the Parish must be moved and stored

elsewhere. Where is the elsewhere you ask? For now all the organizations will store their belongings in the convent

basement. The Youth Center will no longer meet here because of the use of the school. They will relocate the Youth

Center to another Cluster Parish along with their belongings. The only other parish belongings are the tables and chairs.

The only available space will be in the shrine room of the Pietà. After the last Young at Heart meeting on June 17th (the

meetings will resume in September) the Pietà and Padre Pio and the candles will be moved into the Church and that

room will be used to store the tables. We will also close the crying room and use it for the chairs. I mentioned last time

that things will have to temporarily change until we can build our own storage space separate from the school.

I am committed to building the Church on the roof and am still looking into making that happen. We will need to

work together as a Parish to make it happen. Your cooperation in raising the funds is the most important. As you have

been reading in the Tablet the Diocese has begun a capital campaign, Generations of Faith, to build up the funds of the

Diocese. Similar to the Annual Catholic Appeal each Parish is assigned a goal. Our goal is $255,000.00 . Yes, you read

it right! This goal includes our ACA goal of $26,349.00 for this year. From this goal half will come back to the Parish

and as we go over goal 75% then 100% of the money raised will come back to us. Unlike the other capital campaigns for

the building of the Parish where the work was done by the Parish and in the Parish, with this campaign all the work is

done by the Diocese. What I need each individual and each family to do is make a generous pledge to invest in the

building of the Church. Pledges are now being accepted. A committee of volunteer parishioners will be calling to ask

you to make a pledge. Each pledge is for a five year period paid monthly, quarterly or annually, so in asking for

$25,000.00, for example, it is $5,000.00 per year (doesn't that sound better) so you don’t pay it all at once. Over the 5

years will help us pay back the money we will loan from the Diocese for the work of building the Church.

I put this out to you so you know what is happening and how things are changing. As I am informed of the changes to

come I will let you know so we all know what is happening at Cabrini together!!!!!!
