THE GIFT OF GRACE

The gift of grace increases as the struggles increase. --St. Rose of Lima

THIS EUCHARISTIC FEAST

Some things about human nature don't change, even over the course of centuries. When we celebrate a holi-day, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today's first reading, Lady Wisdom is setting a feast, a sign of celebrating the cove-nant that Israel has with God. Israel's central remem-brance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural--and not coincidental--that the Christian celebration of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eu-charist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remembrance. It is easy for us, sometimes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our eucharistic feasting on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the "Bread of Life" discourse from John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvel-ous feast that we have come to attend! gela Cosentino, Nilda Fenyo, Dean Guaneli, Chayo Nunez’, Sam Ajam, Barbara Puma, Troy Warman, Dennis Warman, Teddy Avakoff, Pam McLaughlin, Larry Winters, Sue Coffaro, Devon Alejandro Gonzales, Paige Reynolds, Colin Shaw. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. To place a name on this list contact or if you see that you or a loved ones’ name has been tak-en off and would like it back placed back in “Let Us Pray” again, please contact Sue at 408-879-1130. We welcome you to write the names in the Book of the Sick, next to Mary’s Shrine.

Come See What Alpha’s All About. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone, any-where, to freely explore their unique questions about life, faith, and God. It has been an eye opening experience to those that have gone through the Alpha Course, and guests have come away with a deeper sense of their Christian faith. Come and experience this course yourself. Bring your spouse, signi cant other, adult children, or neighbors. There is a meal served at each session and there is no charge to participate. An Introductory Dinner will be held on Sept. 5, 2018, at 6:30pm, in the Parish Center. Contact Alicia Morales at (408) 857-0523 or [email protected] to sign up. We are looking forward to going through this jour-ney with you.

“Never tire of firmly speaking out in defense of life from its conception and do not be deterred from the commit-ment to defend the dignity of every human person with courageous determination. Christ is with you: be not afraid!” Address of John Paul II to the Bishops and Apostolic Administrators of Albania on their “Ad Limina” Visit, February 3, 2001 © 2001 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Next Weekend, Sunday, August 26th / RCIA REUNION DINNER

For Initiates & your families If you have gone through our RCIA program & are now enjoying life as a Catholic, we would like to invite you to a reunion dinner on Sunday, August 26th, from 5-8PM in the Parish Center courtyard. Come catch up with oth-ers who went through the program as well as your “old” facilitators. We will enjoy a BBQ dinner. Please RSVP to Tamara Kok at [email protected]

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary; Flotil-la 48: “About Boating Safely” This class covers all of the California State requirements needed to obtain the, soon to be mandatory, state boat-ing license. There is a certificate that will be issued at the end of the class once you have taken the class and passed it. This certificate can then be used to obtain the official California boating license. If you have taken a boating safety class more than 5 years ago, the state requires you to have this class or something similar to this class as a refresher course before they will issue you the new license. Because of the amount of material to cover, though technically doable in a single day, we have found over the years that splitting this one day class into two days, makes it more absorbable to the average student.

We hope to present this class several times over the coming months and will keep you posted as to when another series will be on the calendar.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary; Flotilla 48 will be here at St. Frances Cabrini in the Parish Center August 25th for the 2nd of 2 classes to pre-sent a beginner’s boating class. The class

will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat li-cense or safety certification in many states. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating in-surance to boaters who successfully complete “About Boating Safely”. Topics will include Introduction to Boating; Boating Laws, Safety Equipment; Basic Navigation, Trailering; Hunting and Fishing. If inter-ested, please contact Chris Johnson (408) 272-4530.
