The Christian Services Commission would like to thank Our Lady of Sorrows parishioners for providing 24 beautiful Easter Baskets for the children living at the Evelyn House homeless shelter in Stoughton. The director reported that the children were delighted with the baskets on Easter morning! Both parents and staff were very grateful. We would also like to thank you for the 12 gorgeous Easter plants provided for our OLOS homebound parishioners. The gorgeous plants were well re-ceived and let our homebound know that we are thinking of them!

Thank you for the wonderful and abundant amount of “Spring Cleaning Supplies” that you sent to the Ilse Marks Food Pantry. We are very excited to share these costly items with our clients. We know how much they will be appreci-ated. The pantry is very lucky that you have our back and believe in our cause. You remember us week in and week out. We are grateful for your ongoing donations of food. We would also welcome cleaning supplies at any time of year. We can’t do what we do alone. Together we are making a positive difference in many lives. Thank you again for always thinking of us.

Sincerely, Suzanne Blacker, Ilse Marks Food Pantry

The Foxboro/Sharon Knights of Columbus wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the parishioners as the Mother’s Day rose sale was a terrific success. We sold out all roses available. The proceeds will now be donated to several Catholic organizations that assist women in crisis.

Pentecost Sunday

Come to the OLOS Spring Town Hall! Spring Town Hall is an opportunity for our ministries and councils to report on their activities and accomplishments over the past year – and to seek ideas for the coming year. This year’s Spring Town Hall will be held Sunday, June 12th at 11:45 AM. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

SUSTAINABLE COFFEE HOUR: OLOS is taking steps to lessen our carbon footprint in every way possible, including Coffee Hour. We have begun using: Fair Trade coffee from Equal Exchange (based in Bridgewater, MA), ceramic coffee mugs to eliminate paper trash, sugar in a bowl to eliminate the waste created by small paper packets, metal spoons rather than plastic stirrers, 100% recycled paper napkins, Dispensing water from pitchers rather than plastic containers In order to avoid waste, we will use up our remaining plastic ware, paper products and other less “green” products before the full transition to 100% recycled and products non-petroleum based. Re-designing Coffee Hour is a work in progress and will take some time. Cathy Zeng is currently exploring options for composting, and we are seeking parishioners who would be interested in helping with upkeep of our grounds and in helping us research viable options for products which are Earth-friendly but not prohibitively expensive. If you have an interest in exploring these and other possible projects, please contact Mary ([email protected]) or Lynn ([email protected]) during Coffee Hour or via email or phone (781-784-2265).

ALTAR SERVERS As the academic year begins to draw to a close, we are hoping to expand our Altar Server ranks. Any child who has begun to regularly receive the Eucharist, including our newly welcomed second graders, is eligible to participate. Parents: this is a great practical way to help your child live out his/her faith by serving others as one of Jesus’ disciples. Training will be held on Tuesday, June 7th, at 6 PM in the church. For more information, please contact Fr. Vinnie or Deacon Frank in person or by calling, 781-784-2265. (Stay tuned for information about an upcoming Refresher Class for current Altar Servers.)

ECO-TIP OF THE WEEK Our faith calls us to care for all of creation and to be good stewards of our resources. As Pope Francis has written, “His (St. Francis’) response to the world around him was so much more than intellectual appreciation or economic cal-culus, for to him each and every creature was a sister united to him by bonds of affection. That is why he felt called to care for all that exists. (# 11, Laudato Si). Each week’s tip is designed to help us take one step forward in becoming better stewards of the gifts we have received.

This week’s tip: Let the air do the work! “Hang dry” your clothes so they dry by the air rather than in a dryer machine. “Air drying” comes with perks as well! For instance, you can save money, energy, and time while also maintaining the color of

your clothes and saving the environment!

Volunteer at the OLOS Car Wash on June 12, 2016! Thank you to all who have donated towels for the upcoming Summer Mission Car Wash Fundraiser. We will continue to accept used, worn, clean towels (they can be placed in the box labeled “Towel Dona-tions” in the downstairs of the Bullock Center). We are also seeking car wash volunteers from 8:00 a.m.--12:00 p.m. on June 12 (rain date June 26). Serving in this way is a chance to build community, get to know the youth of the parish, and support the youth in their summer mission work. What more could you ask of a Sunday morning of service?! To sign up to volunteer, e-mail or call Teresa Coda ([email protected] or 781-784-2265).

From Senior Deacon Mike:

And, we conclude the fifty days of the Easter season with the celebration of Pentecost.

Next Sunday, on May 22, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity.

In addition to noting the solemnity, we remember the historical anniversary of the institution of the Permanent Diaconate in our Archdiocese. In 1976, Cardinal Medeiros presided at the ordination of the first group of men to be ordained as deacons who would serve the church in this permanent state.

At the 10:45 am mass, senior deacon Mike will preach on the historicity of the diaconate and its effect on the church these last forty years.
