We recall the events of the last week of Jesus’ life: his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, his last supper with his disciples at which he instituted the Eucharist, his suffering and death on a cross, and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Our commemorations and cel- ebrations of these events are not meant as reenactments of past events. Ra- ther we reflect on what Jesus’ saving actions mean in our lives now. We cele- brate what God is doing in our liveshow we are called to conversion, are gathered in faith, are given the Holy Spirit. We reflect on how God is present in our suffering and how God raises us to new life. We are formed by God into a community broken like bread for the life of the world. The liturgies of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Thursday), the Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion (Good Friday) and the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday night) are actually one liturgy which extends over three days. If possible, try to participate all three days: Thursday at 7PM at Our Lady of Lourdes, Friday at 3PM at St. Anne, and Saturday at 7:30PM at St. Anne. Experiencing the whole movement from Thursday through Friday to Satur- day night will open more fully for you the depths of Christ’s saving action in your life. There are additional spiritual opportunities this week. On Tuesday evening Bishop Matano will celebrate the Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Ca- thedral during which he will bless the holy oils used for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and Anointing the Sick throughout the Diocese. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings we will pray Morning Prayer (8AM at St. Anne and 8:30 at Our Lady of Lourdes). On Friday even- ing Musica Spei will present a concert of music appropriate to Good Friday. This week we trace the dying and rising of Jesus which is at the cen- ter of our community and our lives. May you have a gracefilled Holy Week, Fr. Gary Tyman

NOTES from NANCY….

A friend is coun'ng down the days 'l my re'rement

from full 'me parish work. It’s a li4le scary when he said this

weekend is 36 days!?!?! And I keep trying to savor every mo-

ment of this fine endearing Cluster with so many wonderful

people and gi2s.

At last week’s Parent Bap'sm Prep, one of our new-

er parishioners and parents reflected: “We want our son to

have faith in God and to reinforce the values we are already

teaching, and we want to grow as a family in being part of a

faith community that really cares.” What a good challenge

and hope for all of us!!!! As we begin Holy Week, it is good to

reflect on what kind of values we are living and our young

people are seeing in usnot just inside the church building,

but as we go about our daily work and conversa'ons. And

then when our RCIA were recently asked why they want to be

confirmed and become full; members in the Catholic church

at Easter or beyond, they said because they see something

there that has been missing a li4le in their own livesthat

they want to be more and more aware of God and the Holy

Spirit ac've in their lives and in our world. Wowthe quality

of people pursuing Sacraments is amazing. And it is echoed

as Fr. Tyman and I have been interviewing our Confirma'on

candidates preparing for May 8thcelebra'on with Bp. Mata-

no. We are proud that our young people are growing in pray-

er and puGng faith into ac'on.

I remember teaching about what ‘church’ really is: The

2 middle le4ers are what it’s all about: “U R”! may you and

I always remember who we are….

Thank you for teaching me what chURch can be!

PS: What do you get when you hold out your hand and put in

it a scoop of vanilla ice cream & Chocolate & then some choc-

olate sauce, whipped cream & a cherry?

(Answer: A palm sundae!?! )

EASTER BASKET BLESSING! Holy Saturday, 11:30am at OLOL, we will be bless-

ing Baskets with items to use for Easter:

Lamb or meat (Jesus, Lamb of God), breads (Bread of Life),

dairy items (bu4er, eggs, etc), wine/juice (sweetness of

Life), vegetables (fruit of land),

goodies (goodness of life)

and other items you use).

All ages welcome!!!!

 This is an Eastern

European Tradi'on to lead

us into Easter celebra'ons

with prayer, joy & each

other.

“The Crucifixion” by Sir John Stainer tells the story of the Passion and Crucifixion of Christ and is written for choir, organ, tenor and bass soloists. Portraying the drama through solo arias, cho-ruses and hymns, the music is dramatic and highly approach-able. Lasting an hour, the work is extremely moving and is sure to bring the story to life in an extremely human and touching way. The St Anne’s Choir will be conducted by Oliver Brett, the organ played by Thomas Gaynor, with tenor soloist Kevin Bryant and bass soloist Michael Galvin. Come and join us at St Anne Church, on Sunday 25th March at 3pm. Admission is free.Tuesday 27th March at 7.30pm, Oliver Brett will be giving an organ recital at St Anne. This recital is an official degree recital for his doctorate and he would appreciate lots of support from parishioners and friendly faces in the the audience, so you are warmly encouraged to attend! He will play music by Widor, Duruflé, Franck, MacMillan and Healey Willan. Admission is free.

to our Parish community!

You are most welcome. Thank you for being here. You

are welcome to take some Palms to display in your home,

and a “white book” to read a page a day during the Easter

season. And, please, if there is some way we can make

you feel more at home herelet us know.

If you are new to the community, please consider

registering. Contact Nancy DeRycke at 4739656 for an

appointment to fill out a registra'on form.

**Please invite friends and neighbors to join you for Holy

Week and Easter celebra'ons!

There are many folks who say the reason they don’t come

to Mass is that “no one ever asked them”!?!?

Let’s change that…

Today marks the final week of Lent and the beginning of what we as Catholics call

Holy Week. Christ is welcomed into a village near the Mount of Olives. As Christ

is entering the village on a donkey the people are spreading their cloaks and palm

branches on the ground and crying out: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom

of our father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest!” They all did this

as Christ entered into the village on a donkey.

Interesting fact: The Palm Branches that are blessed at Masses this weekend are

used for the Ashes on Ash Wednesday next year.

MUSIC at Our Lady of Lourdes!

The role of music at Mass is not a small one. Since my

arrival here at Our Lady of Lourdes, I have been very

moved how everyone from choir to assembly is in-

vested in li2ing up their voices in sung praise. No

doubt this rich tradi'on has been encouraged and

supported long before my arrival. As we move for-

ward I hope you will prayerfully consider this invita-

'on for you to join in the ac've music ministry as a

member of one of our choirs; 10:30 Choir, Children’s

Choir or Resurrec'on Choir (funeral Masses); as a

Cantor; or as a musician (guitar, bass, percussion,

woodwinds, horns let me know & I’ll find a way for

you to share your gi2) Can’t make a full year commit-

ment…sing with us for a season and try it out. I look

forward to hearing from you soon. Send me an email
