Message from Our Pastor

____________________________

My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,

Thank you again for a beautiful Feast Day! The Healing Mass and

Lourdes Procession were very moving for me. I was especially touched

by how our parish community welcomed and supported the sick who

visited us from around the Archdiocese. The healing power of the

Sacrament of the Sick was communicated to the sick and suffering very

powerfully through our full and active participation in the liturgy. How

blessed we are as a parish family to share in the mission of Our Lady of

Lourdes. It was truly an anointed experience.

And speaking of our sharing in the mission of Lourdes…

It was great to have Marlene Watkins with us from the North American

Volunteers. It gave her the opportunity to know us better so as to help

us take full advantage of our gifts in the mission of Lourdes. There are

three aspects to our service at Lourdes where we will be working with

the North American Volunteers.

Lourdes Volunteer Service is the service that we have been

speaking most about and is displayed in our Lourdes to

Lourdes banner in the church. This year the volunteers from

our parish will be serving in Lourdes from September 4th to the

14th. We have information available for anyone interesting in

serving.

Lourdes Mission Service for Youth is an opportunity for our youth

to receive formation as they help to support the sick and

suffering from the United States in coming to Lourdes. This

mission comes earlier – June. We, as a parish family, have

committed to covering ½ of the cost for any of our youth who

wish to serve so long as at least five are able to go together. At

the moment we have more than five interested!

Finally there is the Special Needs Lourdes Pilgrimage with

medical supportive care assistance. There is a pilgrimage for

our sick and suffering that leaves from Miami and we already

have a family interested in making the pilgrimage. As time

goes on it would be a great gift that we can offer Miami and

beyond to help make this possible for others.

May we continue to live the blessing. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for

us. St. Bernadette, pray for us.

Primer Domingo de Cuaresma 22 de Febrero 2015

Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco

____________________________

Mons. Schwanger

“Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again in glory. These words contain the very essence of

the Eucharistic mystery. In them we find what we bear witness to and share in every day as we celebrate

and receive the Eucharist. In the Upper Room Jesus effects the consecration. By virtue of His words, the

bread – while keeping the external appearance of bread – becomes His Body, and the wine – while

maintaining the external appearance of wine – becomes His Blood. This is the Great Mystery of Faith! This

is the Living Bread which came down from Heaven.” - St. John Paul II

– San Juan Pablo II

Why Catholic? Our Journey through the Catechism

Why Catholic? provides us with a way to deepen our faith and expand our knowledge of the faith as we work

and study together in small groups. Sessions are held in the Parish Hall on scheduled Wednesdays from

8:00 P. M. until 9:45 P. M.

Our next Why Catholic? session will explore various “Sources and Ways of Prayer” on

Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in English and on March 4, 2015 in Spanish.

Sacred Scripture, the Liturgies of the Church, the Blessed Mother and the prayers of saints are all sources of

prayer for us. Our prayer life is enriched as we explore these various sources of prayer and embrace what they

have to teach us about prayer.

First Sunday of Lent February 22, 2015

“How shall I make a return to the Lord for all he has done for me?” Psalm 116:12

As we are examining our lives during lent, it is a good time to also examine all we own. Do we need to clean

house? Do you own something you no longer need but could help the Church? That something may be an old life insurance policy. You can give your no longer needed insurance policies to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. If

the policy has a cash value, you may also get a tax deduction. For more information, contact the Office of

Planned Giving at (305) 762-1110.
