Wednesday classes begin on October 21

Saturday classes begin on October 24

Level 2 First Reconciliation and First Communion preparation classes will be held in-person.

There will be less than 30 people in total in the building during each session so there will be

plenty of space for social distancing and for us to take all necessary precautions. We will be

holding an online Level 2 class on Saturday mornings 9:30am-10:45am for those students

who cannot attend in-person.

Level 8 Confirmation Preparation students will begin online on October 21, and then will

return to in-person instruction on January 13.

All other grade levels will be conducted online with a catechist during the regularly scheduled class time. One or two special classes may require in-person attendance. This week, you will receive a letter in the mail with the details for your child’s class. Your child’s catechist will also be contacting you via phone or email to add your child to their zoom or google meets virtual classroom.

As always, our program does not offer an independent home study option.

Food Pantry

It is hard to believe that the beautiful season of Fall is upon us and our children

are back in school. We ask that you continue to keep the Parish Outreach in mind

when you do your weekly shopping. Without your kindness and concern for our

neighbors in need, we would not be able to help those less fortunate that come to

our doors seeking assistance!

Below is a list of foods that we offer our clients. You may drop donations at Out-

reach, the Rectory and the Church. There are bins in the vestibule of the church for

your convenience. If you feel unsure of how and when you can make a donation, for

either the Outreach or the Parish, please call Outreach 516-541-1260 or email les-

[email protected] and I will be happy to speak to you. If you are interested in donat-

ing gift cards, it is most helpful if they are in smaller denominations ($10, $20 or $25)

thereby allowing us to give to more people.

We are still providing clients with soap - bars or liquid, toilet paper, paper towels

and toothpaste. These are the only personal needs items we are distributing right

now.

**It is most helpful if you check the dates on your donations – we are unable to

distribute food that is expired.

Gratefully,

Leslie Gretschel

Our Lady’s profound Messages, throughout the world & their affect on us today...She has PROPHESIED the CHAOS & TUR-MOIL we’re living in today’s world… (family, sin, the church, immorality, the world & ungodliness!) Questions: 1) Are YOU Listening? 2) How do YOU respond? 3) What does God expect

Al Barbarino is a Lay Franciscan with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, (Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s Community) and is a member of the Knights of Columbus

Throughout the years in this apostolate, he has recorded CDs/Videos and traveled around the world. He speaks on our faith in a most practical, everyday level. Through all the sup-port of his recordings, he helps the Franciscans at their homeless shelters, Croatian Relief

(International Outreach) and for the poor, wherever he sings.

Al has worked in the NYC prisons for incarcerated youth as a counselor. He has many stories to share!

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish

Dear Parishioner:

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and in good health during the terrible coronavirus tragedy we are all

experiencing. From the stories I hear daily, every family has had someone down with the virus, or knows of

someone close who has. We are going through an unbelievable period. Who would have thought that the

day would come when all Churches would have to be closed and parishioners directed not to attend mass?

During periods like this, all of us should become closer to God, and pray like never before. I want you to

know the parish is here to help you in any way we can.

I must report on the current situation at Our Lady of Lourdes. During normal times, we receive between

$15,000 and $17,000 per week in collection income. With no Sunday collections for the past several weeks

and knowing that this will continue for some time, you can see that the parish is experiencing terrible finan-

cial difficulties. Fortunately, some are still contributing regularly, about $2,500 per week. This is a long

way from what we normally receive, but when you expect nothing, it has been a godsend!

To relieve the pressure, I am inaugurating the Our Lady of Lourdes Virus Crisis Appeal, with the hope that

some parishioners might be in a position to help us financially. This is a very reluctant decision, because I

know that many – probably most – cannot help. But for those who can, the parish would be most grateful.

Please, even if it is a small amount, know your contribution matters and is counted on.

Enclosed is a contribution form and a self-addressed envelope. If you are in a position to do so, please com-

plete the form, enclose the form and your contribution in the self-addressed envelope and either place it in

the mail or drop it off at the rectory mailbox.

All parishioners and their loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of adversity. Let’s look

forward to the day when terms like “social distancing” will be forgotten and we will resume being close to-

gether and joyfully sharing the “kiss of peace” at mass.

Thank you for all you have done for the parish in the past and may the Lord be with you and those you cher-

ish during this terrible crisis.

In the Love of Christ,

Our Lady of Lourdes

A PRAYER FOR PREGNANT MOTHERS

O Blessed Mother, you received the good news of the Incarnation of Christ, your Son, with

faith and trust. Grant your protection to all pregnant mothers facing difficulties. Guide us as

we strive to make our parish communities places of welcome and assistance for mothers in

need. Help us become instruments of God’s love and compassion.

Mary, Mother of the Church, graciously help us build a culture of life and a civilization of

love, together with all people of good will, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and

lover of life. Amen.
