Dear Friends,
This weekend we are celebrating our country’s independence.
How do the ideals and vision of the Declaration of Independence
and the founding values of our country blend with our Catholic
faith? The Preface to the Eucharistic Prayer at Mass for July 4th
expresses the conjunction this way:

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

V. Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord our God.
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
though Christ our Lord.
He spoke a message of peace
and taught us to live as brothers and sisters.
His message took form in the vision of our founding fathers
as they fashioned a nation
where we might live as one.
His message lives on in our midst
as our task for today
and a promise for tomorrow.
And so, with hearts full of love,
we join the angels today and every day of our lives,
to sing your glory as we acclaim:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts…

The Declaration of Independence opens with a religious and the-
ological statement when it declares that all are created equal and
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights includ-
ing life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This is also the
teaching of our faith: that human beings are children of God
with a dignity inherent in the fact of being a human individual.
In working against racism and discrimination we are engaging in
that “task for today” demanded by both our American values and
our call as followers of Jesus Christ.

Grace and peace,

At Our Lady of Lourdes, parishioners are invited to
“adopt” one of the flower pots in the garden or by the en-
trances, and to plant it with flowers and tend to it during
the summer. Once couple, Marianne and Tom Walsh
have planted two pots this year and share their reasons:
“Stewardship. We enjoy gardening. It doesn’t take
much time to care for them, usually once a week after
Mass. Therefore, you can do this alone and in your own
time. It’s a welcoming site when entering church.
Remembrance: We planted them before Memorial
Day weekend. As children, our parents brought us the the
cemetery every Memorial Day to plant flowers, pray and
care for the graves of our relatives. We live too far away to
continue visiting, so adopting the posts allows us to contin-
ue this tradition here.
There is joy and peacefulness in planting and watching the
flowers grow. It is one way to feel God’s presence in our
World. It inspires prayer.”.

LOURDES GARDEN
PARISH BULLETIN DESIGN
The cluster staff is working towards redesigning the bulletin
to become more like a weekly newsletter with articles about
parish life, ministries, and spotlighting the faith life of
parishioners.
One piece we want to promote is: “How did I see God this
week?” We hope you will share your faith stories and life
events with us. The focus of any submission should be on
how you saw God. For example, perhaps you trusted God
with test results and something in that event made you
realize “that had to be God”. Or maybe something
happened in the workplace that produced a similar
experience.
Unfortunately, we cannot publish everything, but we hope to
build our sense of loving communion with one another and
to see God in the midst of his people today.
Please submit any faith stories to Dcn. Bill Rabjohn
([email protected]) or Jennifer Cummings

Join Us In Prayer!
This is the list of parishioners, friends, and family we pray
for on page 4 of every bulletin. Until now, we haven’t had
much ability to know who to keep on the list and who to
take off.
Starting July 7th, we’ll remove all names from the list on the
first Sunday of every month unless you contact the cluster
office and ask for the name to remain.
Let us know if someone has recovered from an illness, had
good test results, or had a successful surgery. Perhaps that
also might be a good faith story to add to “How I Saw God
This Week.”
Vacation Bible School will take place August 1923
from 912 at Our Lady Queen of Peace for those in
grades K6.

Cost is $25 per student. Registration forms can be found
at Our Lady Queen of Peace’s website, or at Our Lady

please contact
