Stewards Serve
And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased.” Matthew 3:17 Two thoughts come to mind when reading this. First, God, Our Father, is so generous, that he gave his only son, whom he really loves, to us so that we can have eternal life with him in heaven. God, Our Creator, really loves us, too! Second, Jesus was obedient to his Father’s will, even to the point of death. This is a reminder that our own lives are pure gifts from God and, as His Stewards, we are meant to serve God and others.

A Message from our Pastor, Rev. Joseph T. Szolack
Dear Friends in Christ, I thank all those who made our Christmas celebrations so beautiful this year. Firstly, we had beautiful opportunities to hear beautiful music and to sing the praises in celebrating the birth of our Savior. I am grateful to our choir under the direction of John Wernega and to Ted Kiefer for his leadership. I express gratitude to Messenger, who pray as they sing and to our cantors and all musicians. We were so blessed to have the Bonasal Blues perform a Christmas concert which was really outstanding. Thank you to Eric Gianforcaro and all who assisted him in making our church absolutely stunning. What great honor to the Lord! To Kathy Lawrence and all who assist in keeping our altar cloths and altar frontals beautiful; we thank you. The sacristans did fantastic work under the direction of Mike Alibrando. While I was offering Mass at Saint Agnes Church, Mass was offered at Saint Jude’s with our children performing a Christmas pageant. Thank you to Mary Jo Dwyer and our Religious Education family. To our ushers, servers, lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion…thank you. Thank you to Robert Galasso and all my brother Knights of Columbus for the work surrounding the Giving Tree. There were a lot of smiles because of your labor. To our Saint Vincent de Paul Society, what could we accomplish to help the poor without your help? My dear parishioners, it is a blessing to serve you and I know that I join my brother priests in thanking you for your prayers, your kindness and your gifts of cookies, cakes, wine and other delicious things. I am so grateful for your financial generosity to our parish so that we can continue to do the work of Jesus and carry out our desire to make Him known and loved. Finally, thank you for being Catholic; for loving your faith; for being faithful to Mass attendance and for your example. While I see that less and less people feel the need for God, you still love Him. You inspire me every day. God bless you, Father Szolack

NEWS & EVENTS
Grotto Update
"To Jesus Through Mary ".....Despite the cold weather, our Grotto continues to make progress. Our first pole light is installed and video surveillance for the Grotto is now part of the overall security for our Parish. Security signs will be posted shortly, throughout the Parish property. Sadly, right after the new year, we will be turning off the pond fountain and light, until the weather breaks. Wonderful news! Almost all of the stations, pedestals and benches have arrived from overseas. Over the next couple of months, we will be formally verifying all of the inscriptions for the benches, stations and lights, etc., that have been memorialized. The number of parishioners who are donating to the Grotto on a regular basis has continued to increase. Some are monthly checks and some have taken advantage of our electronic giving campaign. Many thanks for all of your prayers, rosaries and donations. Please prayerfully consider making a donation. All donations are welcomed, needed and will be recognized. Cement path ways, pads for stations and benches, lights, signs, recognition displays, receptacles, are some of the areas still needed.
Please check our parish website at: www.ourladyofhopenj.org/grotto or call the parish office for any and all donations or
questions. Electronic donations can also be made by calling 1-866-307-7140 or going to parish website.

THE STORY OF SALVATION A DVD Series by Jeff Cavins
Journey with Jeff Cavins through the Hebrew Scriptures. In a series of 24 one-hour sessions, participants follow along in their Bibles as Jeff Cavins joyfully unfolds the “big picture” of our salvation by shining a light on the people, places, events and theological truths found in scripture. For our purposes, we are not purchasing workbooks or assigning homework. The preferred Bible of choice for this study is the (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version Catholic Bible or the New American Bible. A Bible will
be loaned to anyone who needs one. Please bring a notepad for any notes you wish to take.
