Perdónese a usted primero

El perdón puede ser un don que ofrecemos con facilidad a los demás, pero nos negamos a nosotros mismos. No ob-stante, aprender a perdonarnos a nosotros mismos es un ingrediente crítico en nuestra habilidad para perdonar a los demás. Ofrézcase el amoroso don del perdón: Líbrese de las emociones. Una conciencia bien formada siente culpa por el pecado. Un error desencadena tristeza y remordimiento. Agarrarse a estos sentimientos negativos crea patrones de compor-tamiento que se convierten en parte de nosotros. Ataque, por el contrario, la emoción asociada con la transgresión y líbrese de ella. Vaya a confesar, haga actos amables, enmiende lo necesario para sentirse en paz con usted mis-mo.

Aclare sus valores morales. La razón por la que la mayoría de nosotros nos avergonza-mos de nuestros malos actos es que estos actos están en desacuerdo con nuestra fe y con nuestros valores morales. Por desgracia, examinar nuestras acciones puede en-caminarnos a lo que realmente es importante. Conseguir que nuestros actos sean coherentes con nuestras creencias es un resultado positivo de nuestras transgresiones. Crecer hace posible el perdón.

Dese otra oportunidad. Renunciar a perdonarnos a nosotros mismos significa que estamos encerrados en el pasado. Nuestro objetivo, en cam-bio, es aprender de la experiencia para evitar repetir el er-ror. Le será útil escribir de qué otra manera actuaría usted si tuviera la oportunidad de hacerlo de nuevo. Forgive yourself first Forgiveness can be a gift we easily offer to others but deny ourselves. Yet, learning to forgive ourselves is a critical ingredient in the ability to forgive others. Con-sider offering yourself the loving gift of forgiveness: Release the emotion. A well-formed conscience feels guilt for sin. A mis-take triggers sadness and regret. Holding on to these negative feelings makes them patterns that become part of who we are. Instead, attack the emotion associ-ated with the transgression and release it. Go to Con-fession, perform acts of kindness, make amends to change the way you look at yourself. Clarify morals. The reason most of us feel ashamed of our wrongdoings is because they are out of line with our faith and morals. Fortunately, examining our actions can actually clue us into what we really feel is important. Bringing our actions in line with our beliefs is a positive outcome from transgressions. Growth makes forgiveness possible. Give yourself a do over. Refusing to forgive ourselves means we are locked in the past. Instead, the goal is to learn from the experi-ence to avoid repetition. To help, write down how you would act differently if you had the chance to do it again. You will see the skills you have acquired as a result and be able to move on to a better future.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

July 22, 2018 16th Sunday in Ordinary "Now what?" It's a difficult thing to hear, isn't it? The train comes late, a child unexpectedly cries, and the latest public policy debate flares up in the news. Life throws us curveballs, and we have no choice but to adapt. Jesus and the Apostles find themselves in that exact situation in today's Gospel. The Apostles have returned from their two-by-two missionary journey. As Jesus hears all of their sto-ries, he knows they need time to recover and refresh. "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." Their wilderness retreat is short-lived, however, as eager crowds discover their location. Jesus is well aware of the needs of his disciples. Still, as he looks out at the crowd, "His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd." The rest break is over. "He be-gan to teach them many things." For those of us who have experienced a taste of much-needed relaxation only to have it taken away abruptly, perhaps we surmise what the Apostles might have been feeling in that moment. But Jesus isn't being inconsiderate of the Apostles needs. He offers them -- and us -- a lived lesson. St. John Paul II wrote, "The whole of Christ's life was a continual teaching: his silences, his miracles, his gestures, his prayer, his love for people, his special affection for the little and the poor, his acceptance of the total sac-rifice on the Cross for the redemption of the world" (On Catechesis in Our Time, 9). In Jesus' choice to teach, we see all of these things: sacrificial love, concern for the marginalized, and priority of people's needs over personal preference. These aren't abstract ideals. They're lived realities as we strive to live and love like Jesus. When a new obstacle con-fronts you in your life, how do you respond?

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO - ALENTAR EN-TENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRI-TURA

22 de julio de 2018 16º Domingo del tiempo ordinario

Todos necesitamos tiempo para descansar. Un lugar apartado del bullicio para estar a solas es importante de vez en cuando. Es hermoso ver en este Evangelio, que Jesús mismo invita a sus discípulos a apartarse del bullicio y de las personas que los buscaban. "Vámonos aparte, a un lugar retirado, y descansarán un poco. Porque eran tantos los que iban y venían que no les quedaba tiempo ni para comer" (Mc. 6:31-32). Jesús sabía de sobra que si la misión consumía a sus discípulos, no podrían llevarla a cabo. Se necesita un balance entre el trabajo y el descanso. Es importante fijarse en la actitud de Jesús. ¿Cómo responde Jesús cuando sus apóstoles regresan de la misión? ¿Cómo responde Jesús cuando la gente los sigue hasta encon-trarlos?

La respuesta de Jesús es compasiva en ambas situ-aciones, y su enseñanza es importante. Pastorear, guiar, acompañar, no dejar a las personas a la deriva. El punto clave es saber cuándo es necesario un descanso y cuándo es tiempo de evangelizar. El reto para la sociedad de hoy es aprender a tomar un tiempo de descanso. Todos corren de un lado a otro. Van con-tra reloj. El trabajo y las actividades abruman. Los doctores, consejeros y psicólogos están saturados de pacientes con la enfermedad llamada tensión. Se debe poner en práctica la enseñanza de Jesús; saber descan-sar es esencial. Por ejemplo, los domingos son para estar con la familia y los amigos, para disfrutar de una buena comida junto con ellos. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que fuiste de vacaciones con tu familia?
