OPPORTUNITIES There are many opportunities which Allāh S gives us during a person’s life in order to gain
His Pleasure. Sometimes on a yearly basis,
some on a monthly basis, some on a weekly
basis and some on a daily basis. It is up to us to
grasp these opportune moments and make the
best out of them. Like when a person wishes to
build his career, he does not start from the top
rather he works his way to the top through effort
and promotions; similarly the connection with
Allāh S is something which requires effort, it is
something you build on, and every single
person has the ability to gain the closeness to
Allāh S, however this requires correct ‘ilm
(knowledge) and with this the enthusiasm and
drive to act upon this,
“Knowledge without ‘amal (acting upon
knowledge) is like a tree which gives no fruit.”
Merely gaining knowledge is just information.
True knowledge is that which is acted upon and
not only will it benefit you but also those around
you.
Keeping this in mind we will swiftly be
approaching that month of the Islāmic calendar
again, which if a person is to exert himself, not
only will he become a better practicing Muslim
but he will be on the path to eternal success not
only in this world but also in the hereafter. The
month of Ramadhān, the month of fasting not
just from food and drink but all major and minor
sins alike, the month of charity not just Zakāh,
but as much Sadaqah and Lillāh as possible,
the month of the Qur'ān, completing as many
Qur'āns as is possible for oneself. Allāh S has
said;
“The month of Ramadhān in which the Qur'ān
was revealed...” (2:185)
However to make the month of Ramadhān as
fruitful as possible we need to start from now
and increase our tilāwah (recitation of the
Qur'ān), on a daily basis. We should be reciting
at least one Juz (portion) of the Qur’ān,
meaning in one month we should be completing
the Qur'ān, now we need to increase this, to
maybe one and a half juz or two so, come the
month of Ramadhān, we are ready to increase
it even more.
Many times what happens is, come the blessed
month, out of the spiritual boost we have, we
start on a strong foot but come the end of the
first week, our charge is reduced, this is
because we are not habituated to it. When a
person takes their car onto the road he will not
start it in fifth gear, rather, he will start in the
first gear gradually building his way up. This is
why we have to start preparing from now for the
month of Ramadhān, so come the blessed
month our spiritual engine is already in fifth
gear.
Targets
It is also very important the we set ourselves
targets for the month of Ramadhān, let us take

Allāh S - The True Cause and Effect (PART 3) by Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat ḥafiẓahullāh
2. We should believe and have total reliance on Al-
lāh S that He can change any situation as He is
the only being who can make the impossible pos-
sible. We only need to reflect on the fact that it
was He who made a path way for Sayyidunā
Mūsā u in the sea, who prevented the knife
from slitting the throat of Sayyidunā Ismā‘īl u,
created a camel from a rock for Sayyidunā Ṣāliḥ
u, caused the moon to split in two for Rasūlul-
lāh s. Therefore, even in the most adverse situa-
tion, we should never think that it is the end of
the world for He is All-Powerful; He can awaken
the one who is in a coma, He can make the dis-
abled walk, He can cause the blind to see and He
can bring the dead back to life – He has every
ability to cause what He desires.
3. Never become despondent in any situation and
give up beseeching Him. Continually turn to Him
and beseech Him with this belief that He will
surely shower His Mercy. Allāh S states:
Allāh S is ever ready to accept our prayers:
One should reflect on the incidents of the
Prophets u and take lesson that they never
gave up beseeching Allāh S and always
hoped for acceptance. Let us look at a few
examples:
a. Sayyidunā Mūsā u, having become de-
spondent in Fir‘awn, turned to Allāh S;
Allāh S accepted the prayer of Sayyidunā
Mūsā u after forty years but never did
Sayyidunā Mūsā u become despondent
even for a moment. For forty years he
called Allāh S with full conviction. Allāh
S finally said, “...The prayer of the two of
you (Mūsā u and Hārūn u) has been
granted...” (10:89)
b. Sayyidunā Ayyūb u was afflicted with
such an illness that everyone had left him
yet he did not give up hope and continued
calling Allāh S. Sayyidunā Ayyūb u
said, “...Here I am, afflicted by pain and
You are the Most Merciful of all the merci-
ful.” (21:83) Allāh S accepted his prayer
and said, “So, We answered his prayer and
removed whatever pain he had...” (21:84)
c. Sayyidunā Yūnus u called out to Allāh S
in the midst of three darknesses; the night,
the sea and the stomach of the fish; yet he
did not lose hope in Allāh S. Allāh S
states, “...Then, he called (Us) in depths of
darkness saying, ‘There is no god but You.
Pure are You. Indeed I was among the
wrongdoers.’” (21:87) When he did not
lose hope and continually beseeched Allāh
S with hope, faith and conviction Allāh S
responded. Allāh S says, “So We re-
sponded to him and rescued him from the
distress...” (21:88)
4. Never become complacent or independent from
Allāh S when in comfortable situations for He
can change any situation in seconds. Always fear
Allāh S and never think that the situation will

remain favourable forever and that no one can remove this goodness from me. Rather remain humble that
whatever goodness there is in my life, it is due to the sheer Grace of Allāh S.
5. Be content with every situation, for Allāh S is All-Wise and every situation is good for us. During adverse
circumstances, be patient and if the situation is favourable, then be grateful. Rasūlullāh s has stated:
How astonishing is the condition of a believer; every condition of his is good, and this is only for a believer. If he receives khayr (goodness) then he is grateful and this is good for him. If he is af-flicted with hardship, then he is patient and this is good for him. (Aṭ-Ṭabrānī)
May Allāh S grant us all the tawfīq and understanding. Āmīn.

the example of the Qur'ān, the minimum target we should set ourselves is of at least five completions of the holy Qur'ān,
many just suffice on only one, this should be done outside the month of Ramadhān.
Charity
Thousands of pounds are pumped out of the UK in form of charity, however majority of this is in the form of Zakāh, which we
take out from our wealth, we should also take out as much Lillāh as possible, with this in mind that every optional act
performed in this blessed month, Allāh S will reward us as though we have carried out a Fardh act. With this also we should
set targets, a person should look at his financial status and set a side a portion of this for Nafl (optional) charity. Charity is
best spent at home there are many Idāras (institutes) where they are much in need of money, either to pay off loans or for
general running and maintenance of the property. There is a very laid back attitude towards this, we believe living in a country
like the UK that all are self sufficient, however we must understand that many idāras around the UK receive no funding from
the government but alhamdulillāh till today it is funded and run with the generous donations of the general working class
Muslim community, this in its self is a great miracle of Allāh S, without any kind of funding these places of deen are running
despite the enormous amount of costs involved which are ever increasing, this is only through the grace of Allāh S and it is a
form evidence for us that this is the true religion.
May Allāh S make this Ramadhān as fruitful as possible for us and make it a means of gaining his love and closeness.
Ameen
Aim high, try your best and you will always succeed in the eyes of Allāh S .

LESSONS FROM HADITH
: قال - رضى هللا عنه - وعن حذيفة ل يدخل الجنهة قتهات - ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص - قال رسول للاه Hudhayfah t narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “A backbiter will not enter
Paradise.” (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)
A very common and widespread disease has been mentioned which is found in majority of people,
male and female alike. In the above hadith, Prophet s is drawing our attention to not backbiting any-
one, it has been compared to the likes of zinā (adultery), both classed as major sins in the light of
Shariah.
What is backbiting
In another hadith Prophet s has clearly explained what the meaning of backbiting is;
Abu Hurayrah t said: The Messenger of Allāh ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said, "Do you know what is backbiting?" The
Companions said: "Allāh and His Messenger know better." Thereupon he said, "Backbiting is talking
about your brother in a manner which he dislikes." It was said to him: "What if my brother is as I
say." He said, "If he is actually as you say, then that is backbiting; but if that is not in him, that is
slandering." [Muslim].
From the above we can clearly see what backbiting is, if we were to say something regarding some-
one in their absence and they would dislike it this is known as backbiting, this does not mean that if
one believes they have the courage to say it in front of them then it gives them the permission to carry
on saying it, this is classed as bullying which is not tolerated in deen. The main point of focus is that
the person would not like it. Further Prophet s was asked by a sahābi, may Allāh S shower the
sahābā with his mercy, as it is trough their questions that we have come to understand majority of the
deen. He asked, what if what was said is true, the reply was, if what was said is true this is backbiting
however if it is false then this will be slander.
Forms of backbiting
Backbiting can be done in various ways, by way of gesture, indirect speech or even sarcasm, what-
ever method is used they are all impermissible in Islam. It is illnesses like this that break family ties
and why trust no longer remains between people.
Backbiting is greater than zinā (adultery)
In another hadith of Prophet s said backbiting has been ordained worse than zinā (adultery) like
mentioned in the opening paragraph, because by committing zinā one is violating the rights of Allāh
S alone, and repentance will only be between the sinner and the creator, whereas backbiting we are
violating two rights, the first of Allāh S and the second of the person we have backbitten, so for a
person to be forgiven by Allāh S we will first have to be forgiven by the person who we have back-
bitten about. The person lending an ear to backbiting will also have a share in the sin, hence, if in a
gathering of backbiting one is unable to stop them, then the minimal a person can do is to leave such
gatherings. However, there are some occasions when backbiting becomes permissible - if not neces-
sary, and this is when some one’s health, wealth or family are in danger and you have to inform the
correct authorities in order to save them.

Ramadhān
Fasting in the month of Ramadhān is one of the five pillars of Islām. It is Fardh upon every Muslim, male and female who is sane and ma-ture. Fasting has many physi-cal, moral and social benefits. However, Allāh S has made
fasting compulsory so that we become pious, fearful and conscious of Allāh S. Fasting in Islām means to stay away from eating, drinking and cohabitation from Subh Sadiq (early dawn) till Sunset with the in-tention of fasting. The first verses of the Qur’ān were said to be re-vealed to the prophet Muhammad in 610 CE during Ramadhān, the ninth month on the Muslim calendar. Ramadhān is a "month of blessings" marked by prayer, fasting, and charity. Ramadhān focuses on self-sacrifice and devotion to Allāh S. Muslims believe that during the month of Ramadhān, Allāh S revealed the first verses of the Qur'ān, the holy book of Islām. One night a voice called to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allāh S be upon him) from the night sky. It was the angel Jibra’el, who told Muhammad s he had been chosen to receive the word of Allāh S. In the days that followed, Muhammad s found himself speaking the verses that would be transcribed as the Qur’ān. During Ramadhān in the Muslim world, most restau-rants are closed during the daylight hours. Families get up early for suhoor, a meal eaten before the sun rises. After the sun sets, the fast is broken with a meal known as iftār. Reciting the following; Iftār usually begins with dates or water. “The Prophet s used to break his fast before praying by eating fresh dates, and if there were no fresh dates he would eat dried dates; if there were no dried dates, he would have a few sips of water.” Allāh S has blessed Ramadhān with Laylat al-Qadr. Explaining the great status of this blessed night, Su-rat al-Qadr was revealed, and there are many ahādith which also speak of that, such as the hadith
of Abu Hurayrah (may Allāh S be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Al-lāh S be upon him) said: “There has come to you Ramadhān, a blessed month which Allāh S has en-joined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained up. In it there is a night which is better than a thousand months, and who-ever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.” And Abu Hurayrah (may Allāh S be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allāh (peace and bless-ings of Allāh S be upon him) said: “Whoever spends Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, will be forgiven his previous sins.” Allāh S has made Ramadhān for fasting and spend-ing its nights in prayer out of faith, in the hope of re-ward a means of forgiveness of sins, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh S be upon him) said: “Whoever spends the nights of Ramadhān in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Tarāweeh prayer is Sunnah according to scholarly consensus. There are twenty rak’ahs with ten tasleems, and it is permissible to pray it individually or in congregation. It is Sunnah to observe i’tikāf in Ramadhān, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh S be upon him) always did that, as it was narrated in the hadith of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allāh S be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh S be upon him) used to spend the last ten days of Ramadhān in i’tikāf until he passed away. It is strongly recommended in Ramadhān to study the Qur’ān together and to read it a great deal. You may study the Qur’ān together by reciting it to some-one else and by having someone else recite it to you. Jibrael used to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh S be upon him) every night in Ramadhān and study the Qur’ān with him. The Niyyah (intention) of fasting is necessary. If a person stays away from all these things that break one’s fast without a Niyyah, the fast will not be valid. It is not necessary to express the Niyyah verbally as Niyyah means to intend. Thus, the intention in the

Some virtues of Iftaar in
Ramadhan YOU SHOULD MAKE DU’A BEFORE IFTAAR, IT IS SAID THAT ALL YOUR DU’AS ARE ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME AND THAT THERE IS NO BARRIER BETWEEN YOU AND ALLAH S AT THIS TIME. IT IS MUSTAHAB TO BREAK THE FAST WITH WATER AND DATES. IT IS SAID THAT IF ONE GIVES SOMETHING TO BREAK THE FAST OF ANOTHER HE ALSO GETS THE REWARD OF THIS FAST, MEANING IF YOU GIVE FOOD TO SOMEONE AND AT IFTAAR TIME THEY BREAK THEIR FAST WITH THIS YOU TOO WOULD GET THE RE-WARD OF THIS FAST. THIS CAN ALSO TAKE PLACE AT HOME ALL YOU SIMPLY NEED TO DO IS CUT OPEN A DATE, TAKE THE SEED OUT AND GIVE IT TO ANOTHER PERSON TO BREAK THEIR FAST AND YOU WILL GET THE SAME AMOUNT OF REWARD THAT THEY DID WHILE FASTING.
A WORDSEARCH ABOUT SOME THINGS
TO DO IN RAMADHĀN
IFTAAR——SEHRI——RAMADHAN——TARAWEEH——ZHIKR——QURAAN——DUAA
LAILATUL QADR——GOOD DEEDS——MOON
May Allāh S help us do good in Ramadhān and continue this in our daily lives, may he make us
closer to the deeds that he loves and further from the acts he hates, may he give us lots of reward
and reward us in every way, may he accept all of our fasts, may he forgive the sins we commit in
the day, the sins we commit in the night, the sins we commit intentionally, the sins we commit unin-
tentionally, our major sins and our minor sins, may he forgive and reward those who we have
wronged, may he grow our love for good, may he cure the ill, and give peace to those who have
passed away, may he give us Jannatul firdous (the highest stage of Jannah), may he accept all the
good du’ā’s that was in our hearts, that is in our hearts and that will be in our hearts.

VOLUME. 3 ISSUE. 2 MARCH/APRIL 2017
Dear Sister Soon it will be that time of year again, where the doors of Rahmah (mercy) are swung open by Allāh S, and we able to
reap the rewards by carrying out different deeds, be they big or small. The blessing of the month of Ramadhān needs no
introduction nor a lengthy article to explain its benefits and blessings, All know the blessing of this month from the child
at the young age of five to the elders with grey hair. As time has passed-by, the knowledge and blessing of Ramadhān is
not lost, however priorities have changed, other things are given more importance, and the disease of Tasweef (delaying and action) has crept into our lives, a great trick of shaytān and our Nafs (inner self).
It can be seen that brothers make the most of this blessed month than the sisters, due to no fact that brother have the
opportunity to attend and frequent the Masjid more than the sisters, and in this environment a brother may be encour-aged to recite a portion of the Qur’ān after seeing others
doing the same. He spends more in charity as he notices a collection taking place at his local Masjid, he engages in du’ā
just before the time of Iftār as he free from any responsibil-
ity at that time.
Before Ramadhān
However sisters and mothers on the other hand have much
more of a calm approach to this, and busy themselves in
other household chores, which are never ending. Approach-ing the month of Ramadhān mothers will busy themselves in
preparing different sorts of delicious items for the house-hold - this in itself has great reward, but when was the last time we also worried about our spiritual connection with Allāh S, we increase our stock of the food cupboard, but we
forget about increasing our spirituality. I am not implying that we do not do anything in preparation for Ramadhān,
instead of making six or seven different types of delicacies
suffice on two or three, this will save you time so that you may also increase your connection with Allāh S and we will
be ready for the start of Ramdhān also.
Qur’ān during Ramadhān. During the month of Ramadhān, we need to establish our
priorities, with our daily chores we need to find time and re-cite as much Qur’ān as possible, if after every salāh we
were to sit with the Qur’ān and recite only one Juz (portion)
by the end of the month we would have completed close to five completions of the Qur’ān. Sheikh Zakariyya Kandhalvi
mentiones in one of his books regarding the actions of his womenfolk in the month of Ramadhān;
“I am greatly pleased on seeing how the womenfolk live with
each other, the one trying to recite more Qur’ān than the others, so that despite of domestic duties 15 to 20 Juz
(parts) of the Qur’ān are read on a daily basis by each of them.”
From this we are able to understand, despite daily chores they pious amongst us found time to recite large portions of the Qur’ān, it is obvious that these targets were not reached
overnight but after much practise and dedication, aim then
strive to reach that target, without a target we have nothing
to aim for.
Charity
It is not often that that mothers and sisters attend the masjid, hence miss out on many opportunities to spend in the path of Allāh S, however if we were to set a side what ever
amount we can spare for optional charity, thereafter pass it on to the men folk with clear instructions, what ever collec-
tion is being announced at the masjid a portion should be given, for example we set aside £60 for the month of ramadhān for optional charity, the £1 should be given in the
collection and £1 for the masjid it is taking place in.
Du’ā
It can be seen in many house hold that mothers and sister busy themselves in the kitchen preparing for iftār and miss
out on a great opportunity of making du’ā to Alllah S. The
du’ā before the time of Iftār is greatly accepted by Allāh S,
if we were to finish in the kitchen at least 15 minutes before the time of iftār and sit on the musallah (prayer mat) or
dastarkhan (table cloth) and supplicate to Allāh S,
insha’Allāh we will find much blessing and peace of mind.

One Minute Lesson By Mawlānā Adam Loonat (Al-Hidayah Foundation)
Sunan of wearing ones clothes
ة نهي ول قو ن غيره حول مه ي كسانهي هذا الثوب ورزقنهيهه مه ه الذه الحمد للهAll Praise is for Allāh S who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, with no power nor might from myself.
When wearing ones clothes first wear the right hand then the left. Similarly when wearing ones trousers first enter the right foot then the left.
Abu Saeed Khudri t narrated that when the noble Prophet s dressed himself, he would take the name of the gar-ment and say the following:
هه وشره ما هو له ن شره هه و خيره ما هو له واعوذ بهك مه ن خيره الهم اهنهي اسئلك مه
O Allāh S, I ask you for its goodness and the goodness for which it was made, and I seek refuge with you from its evil and the evil for which it was made.
As Muslims we are required to pay attention to our appearance. Making sure that this great blessing from Allāh S is clean, pure and looks presentable especially when performing our prayers. The Qur’ān E Kareem States “ Chil-dren of Adam, wear your best clothes to every Masjid”. Allāh S has permitted us to wear nice clothes and put on a good appearance, as doing so is one way of remember-ing the blessing of Allāh S upon us. We must at all times bear in mind some clothing are forbidden for us to wear (Males from wearing silk, wearing clothes which does not cover the body correctly), wearing clothes in pride and to show off (clothes with branded names with the intention of showing off), clothing which imitate others, gender etc. This du’ā teaches us to ask Allāh S to give us the goodness in this garment. i.e. keep us warm during the cold time of the year and keep us cool during the warm months. The main objective of clothing is to cover our body. Clothing of a thick nature will be worn during the cold months which will keep us warm and keep us safe from the cold. On the other hand during the summer months clothing of a thin nature will be worn to keep us cool, but at all times keeping in mind that the clothing does not go against the command of Allāh S.
heart will suffice. However, you can also express the Niyyah verbally also by saying I intend to keep a fast of tomorrow). Once Ramadhān comes to an end, Muslims celebrate Eid-al-fitr. It is mustahab to eat before going out to emphasize the fact that it is forbidden to fast on that day and to demonstrate that fasting has ended.

(Shaykh Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat hafizahullāh)
A Perfect Muslim “To be a perfect Muslim it is necessary to fulfil all of the requirements of
Islām. One of these is to ensure that one does not cause harm to another
human being, Muslim or non-Muslim.”
Islāmic Etiquettes “If Muslims adopt the Islāmic etiquettes of social interaction, it will dispel the
many misunderstandings created about Islām and Muslims, making it much
easier for non-Muslims to understand and come closer to Islām.”
Compassion for All Humans “The human race is classified as ashraf-ul-makhlūqāt (the most noble of
creation) and can be divided into Muslims and non-Muslims. Although
non-Muslims differ in their beliefs, they are nonetheless from the ashraf-ulmakhlūqāt.
So compassion and fairness to all human beings is necessary.”
The Beloved of Allāh S “Allāh S nurtures every single creature and provides for all of its needs.
Every living thing is dependant on Allāh S, who is the Rabb and Sustainer of
all. A person who treats another one of Allāh S’s Creation well, purely for
Allāh S’s sake, not for fame or any worldly gain, becomes beloved to Allāh
S.”
The Soft-Hearted Muslim “For treating others well, a person’s heart needs to be soft: a home to
compassion, tenderness, sympathy and mercy. Someone devoid of these
qualities will not be able to treat others well, or if he outwardly does, it will
be for some ulterior motive.”
