Dear Friends, I hope you read this newsletter every week because a lot of thought, expense and work goes into producing it. Of course YOU do, you are reading it now. But what I hope is that all of our parishioners are reading it- especially at the moment, the sec- ond page; because on this page different parishioners are sharing their Faith with the rest of us, how they came to faith or came back to it, and why. It makes fasci- nating reading. People’s accounts are honest and open and reflect their struggles with life and faith and Grace at work in their lives. If you haven’t been reading page two, have a look now. Just turn over the page. Indeed why not write your own ex- perience. About 400-450 words. Most people start by saying their story is very ordi- nary but when they start writing they, and we their readers, discover, no, it is unique. It is the story of God at work in our lives. We keep each account anonymous as that gives people more leeway to be frank. Have a go. We asked for people to put forward their names for election to the parish council recently. There are 6 vacancies for elected members and 6 parishioners put their names forward. They are all good people and I will be very happy to work with all of them. 6 names, 6 vacancies, so there is no need for an election. They are from top left: Elisabetta Bertone, Andre Mafuta, Jayne McMenamin, Victor Osunde, Sara Wheeler and Ignacio Ybarra. Thank you to all of them for being willing to join the PPC. In this Year of Faith - Why I am Catholic

This Week’s Story:

I have always been a Catholic, born into a Catholic family. As a child, I attended a Convent school, leaving at 16 years old, to train at St. Vincent’s Nursery Training College, run by the Sisters of Charity. The nuns were truly inspiring, the matron (a nun) training us very well, teaching us that prayer and hard work went together. We had lot of children, aged from babies to four years old. When I first joined I was made responsible for one baby and had to help with the others. We did everything for them, taught by a staff nurse and matron. We would start each day with prayers, followed by a hard day’s work, which all helped me in my long career, looking after little people for over forty years. One of the highlights of Christmas at St Vincent’s was being chosen to take a baby up to Provincial House to meet Sister Provincial, a huge honour. We would be scrutinised by staff nurse before we left the nursery to ensure our uniforms were neat and correct, then we were greeted at the door, and shown to a table covered with presents, one for each child. On Christmas Eve we went to the Chapel, again in perfect uniforms, everywhere looking beautiful, with flowers and candles. We stayed there for three consecutive masses, making a wonderful start to Christmas for young nurses. I left college at 16 years old and went into private service I had sole charge of the children in my care the parents being away for long periods, It was a huge responsibility. My training was vital and I thanked God everyday for it . My faith was tested in one post when the youngest child became seriously ill and I had to rush him to the hospital; my prayers were answered when 10 days later he fully recovered and returned home. Working in Westminster, I found Holy Apostles church, taking my charge with me to Mass on occasion. Upon retirement, I became more involved in parish work, being elected onto the pastoral parish council, helping to set up Meeters and Greeters and the greatest honour to me was being chosen to be a Eucharistic Minister. I feel that growing up with such a religious background has helped me enormously in my career and my life. During this year of faith maybe you would write about 400 to 450 words on

Why I am a Catholic. It is good for us to hear about each other’s journey of

faith. Each submission will be anonymous. Please send yours to Fr Pat or Judy

CATHOLIC PARLIAMENTARY AND PUBLIC POLICY INTERNSHIPS For the last ten years the Catholics Bishops Conference has organised Parliamentary and Public Policy Internships for recently graduated Catholics. This year we are looking to offer at least 6 internships: Three interns will be placed with Christian MPs at Westminster, two in public policy with CAFOD and one in a media internship in Archbishop’s House Westminster. All internships will run from September 2013 - July 2014 and include accommodation and subsistence allowances. Full details and an application form can be found on our website: https://www.cbcew.org.uk/catholic-internships. Completed application forms must either be emailed to [email protected] or posted to: Michaela Kelly, Head of HR, 39 Eccleston Square, London SW1V 1BX. The closing date is 9am on 25th February 2013 and Assessment days will be 25th and 26th March 2013.

An application has been made to English Heritage for listing The Studio at 19 Edith Grove in Chelsea. This is supported by the Chelsea Society and the Museum of Music History. Please help us to realise our vision of preservation by joining our campaign to save The Studio. It is hoped that musical events will be held there again and that The Studio will continue to be a living place of creativity. The

building is in a critical state of dilapidation and is therefore at risk of ”development” or even

demolition. For more info and to sign the petition go to: http://www.musicat19a.co.uk/ Nickolas Lane, Saturday Vigil Mass organist.
