Transcript of Only the inside diameter and outside diameter clamping ... Mechanical seals produced by John Crane...
Problem:Mechanical seals produced by John Crane are becoming
too large to service by hand using old techniques. A service station is needed to disassemble, articulate, and
reassemble the large seals
Key Wants/Needs:Ability to lift, articulate, and service seals weighing up to
1000 lbsGrasp an outer diameter ranging from 9 to 20 inches
Grasp an inner diameter ranging from 3 ½ to 6 1/8 inches
Sponsor Overview:John Crane is an industry leader in the production and
servicing of mechanical seals. A division in Swedesboro, New Jersey, is a site which not only designs custom
mechanical seals, but also services the seals for customers. Seals range from a few inches in diameter and height to 2 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height.
The designed service station is able to lift and rotate the entire seal assembly as well as disassemble, translate and
assemble individual components of the seal.
John Crane requested that a complete drawing package be made for the service station.
Only the inside diameter and outside diameter clamping systems would be manufactured and tested.
Following the manufacturing of this service station, John Crane will be able to perform service and repairs that are becoming impossible to perform by hand. This machine will lower the repair costs for John Crane immediately. Pending success at the Swedesboro, NJ location, the
station could be incorporated in locations worldwide.
