Online/ Self-study Program profile

Due to the successful implementation of our online platform, we are excited to announce the scheduled dates for 2021. There is only limited space, so please book in advance.We want to emphasise that the online/ self-study option is aimed at employed emergency response practitioners with workplace experience. The offer is for online and self-study with limited instructor/facilitator support. We will however not exclude anyone from participating based on employment status. Learners will be required to study and prepare at their own pace. Planned online sessions will be advertised when needed or requested.

Many competent and experienced fire and emergency services personnel find it difficult to attend training due to the continued change of qualification, the duration of training, and associated cost. This offer is to provide experienced fire fighters and emergency services personnel the opportunity to obtain recognised qualifications and certificates without the added cost and frustration to attend a course again. The online program is designed to recognise previous training and experience. Candidates will have the opportunity to prepare and study at their own pace and select a date for assessment that suit them best. The program must be completed within 12 Months from enrolment. If the program is not successfully completed within the 12 months the learner will be required to restart the process.

The course price include:1.1 Online registration.1.2 Course presentations and documents.1.3 IFSTA Course Manual. (Hard Copy or Electronic Copy)1.4 Learner Assessment Guide. (Electronic) This includes all the class test, skill sheets, and assignments as

stipulated for each program.1.5 1st Assessment Date. Summative knowledge, skills, and assignments1.6 Recognition towards aligned SAQA (Seta and QCTO) registered unit standards and modules.1.7 IFSAC certificate on successful completion of accredited programs.1.8 Progressive courses include a IFSTA manual. Please confirm if a new manual is required for NFPA 1001

Firefighter 2, NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector 2, and NFPA 1072 Hazmat Operations. If the precluding levels was completed with ETS you might have the IFSTA manual.

A 50% deposit will confirm your place and give you access to learning material and online registration to the training and preparation platform.The remaining 50% must be paid in full at least 14 days before the scheduled assessment date.

2.1 All programs must be assessed in person and at an approved and agreed venue.2.2 All programs will be assessed according to the requirements of the accreditation entity. (Seta, QCTO,

and/or IFSAC)2.3 The online self-study must be completed successfully, and all skill sheets and assignments must be

completed to get access to the Final summative/certification assessment.2.4 You will need a reliable internet connection to access the online platform.2.5 The online platform does not require any special or additional software.2.6 The online self-study option provides limited Instructor/facilitator interaction. It is advised that learners

organise themselves into study groups.

The Online/Self-study option is offered in the following two component. 1. Self-study2. Assessment/Test/Evaluation

These option will consist of the following:

3.1 Self-studyThe self-study component consist of all training, preparation, and completion of the Learner Assessment Guide (LAG). The training component does not have a specific duration. The duration depends on Experience, work environment, previous related training, access to resources, and available time to prepare. The only limitation is that the process must be completed within 1 (one) year from entering the specific program, including the assessment for the specific standard. Self-study is at each individuals own pace. Limited intervention from ETS is expected. Online sessions, such as lectures, meetings, or explanations can be arranged when required with the relevant facilitator. Technical support will be available to resolve issues. The LAG must be completed and will serve as a entry requirement for assessment.Should there be a requirement for instruction and facilitation of subject matter, advance arrangements must be made with ETS.

3.2 Assessment/Test/EvaluationAll programs entered will be assessed. Assessments must be conducted in person at a agreed venue and under directed supervision of a assessor/evaluator/Procter.All agreements on assessment venues must be agreed before entering the program.Due to the nature of the fire service practical requirements, most programs will be assessed at ETS Emergency Training Solutions, South Africa, unless otherwise agreed.The listed durations is the information pack is for Assessment only. Should additional time be required for preparations and training arrangements must be made in advance.

Can I complete the training online?

Yes. The Online/ self-study program is designed to complete the program online. The Knowledge component is completed on the online platform. Skills sheets and assignments must recorded in the Portfolio of evidence and submitted to ETS.

Can I complete the assessments online?

No. All assessments must be conducted in person. Dependant on the program requirements assessment will be conducted at a suitable venue that meet the requirements for the practical assessments. Knowledge Assessments can be conducted at a venue suitable for theoretical/knowledge assessments. The knowledge assessments might be conducted on a electronic platform.

Do I have to attend classes during the training and preparation?

No. The online/self-study programs are designed for independent self study.

Do I have to buy the recommended book/curriculum from ETS?

No. If you have the book/curriculum or plan to buy yourself, confirm with ETS on the pricing. The recommended book/curriculum is currently included in all the pricing. You can also purchase the electronic book if you prefer.

How long is the online/self-study program?

You can study as long as you prefer. There is no specific duration for the learning and preparation. The duration is dependant on your experience and available time. When you enter the program you will need to register and commit to a assessment date. You will need to plan according to this date. You will need to complete the LAG with all the required documentation at least 7 days before the start of the assessment date.

Do I need to meet the entry requirements before entering into a program?

Yes. You must meet the entry requirements to be certified.

Must I be employed at a fire station to enter the online self-study option.

No. Anyone can enter the program if you meet the entry requirements. It is however highly recommended that you have workplace experience to enter. Some programs require skilled and technical assistance during the preparation phase, and due to the technical requirements, entry can be restricted.

Do I need any additional software to use the online platform?

No. You need login details, and a reliable internet connection.

If I do not have Bunker Gear for Fire Fighting programs can I rent from ETS?

Yes. Please enquire for pricing when requesting a quote.

How do I register for the Online Self-study programs offered by ETS?

To register for the online self-study programs the following must be done.1. Select the program you want to complete. (Online Self-study Booklet or Online media)2. Select a advertised assessment date that will suit your study plan.3. Request a quote from ETS and check availability for the selected assessment date.4. Confirm payment and book place in the program as agreed.5. When payment is received and place for assessment date is confirmed you will receive your study material and Online login information.

Can I change my Assessment date after sign-up?

Yes. Dependant on available spaces on alternative assessment dates, and if it does not negatively affects the booked assessment date.

If we are a group or employer, can we schedule a specific date for assessment different from the advertised dates?

Yes. If the group exceed 10 members we can schedule a specific date.

If we need facilitator/Instructor assistance with knowledge and/or Skills training, can it be arranged?

Yes. Please confirm when booking the Online Self-study program.
